Want Inkscape's Multi-page to work in web browsers (and other tools)?

Well my work today has been on moving our inkscape:page element to the SVG standard "view" element. Already supported in web browsers and hopefully supported someday in SVG viewers that use librsvg (are you interested @federicomena ?)

This will need testing and a migration for older data too. But I like more standards compliant files and less custom stuff in inkscape's svg.

and here I was happily emailing people on #Thunderbird and making designs on #Penpot and #Inkscape to share via #XMPP, at which point I remembered to catch up on discussions on #Loomio, and got roped into drafting a manifesto on #Cryptpad, all while blissfully unaware of the chaos going on until I opened #Newsflash and read about it all on the #RSS feeds that I synchronise via #NextCloud, at which point I decided to head over to talk about it with the world thanks to #ActivityPub!

I have been pushing for #Inkscape to remove/decommission it's Twitter account. But I didn't want to do it unilaterally, bossing people about, but through reasoned policy that can be applied to other captured banana-pants social media platforms.

So I've drafted a policy, which I'm interested in having more people look at as it's going to be one of those gnarly things that's important to get right:

I don't think getting consistency with SVG's filters is going to be a problem. None of the implementations for em and ex are consistent. Percent is broken in a couple too, including Inkscape.

Does anyone fancy testing an #inkscape node editing branch?

One of Inkscape's most important features is node editing. I really believe we're better than Illustrator, Affinity et al at this specific feature. So with this GSoC adding functionality I need people with Inkscape experience to test it and make sure it's not breaking workflows:

Do you remember a couple of weeks ago when I complained that a very large #python contribution to #inkscape was poorly formatted and I felt embarrassed about pushing back and asking them to run a linter over it?

Yeah I'm not fucking embarrassed now, I'm furious. 🤬

Update: Apparently they meant a small section of it was, not the whole MR. I'm annoyed, but I'll have to take them at their word.

Inkscape‘s development version has now switched to GTK4 ✨ , the current version of the underlying UI framework.

This is a huge architectural 🏗️ improvement for Inkscape, and will enable proper graphics acceleration ⏩ in the future.

This quick transition - only about 9 months - was made possible by donations, as we’ve invested approx. $80,000 towards it.

Ya casi tengo ISBN y, en principio, la portada sería esto: el título arriba, la autora abajo y, en medio, dos tiritas cruzadas. Una verde para el Esperanto y una lila para la igualdad lingüística. Es la primera cubierta que diseño con solapas :)

Pensad que los colores que se ven en web no son los que se imprimen. Serán un verde y un lila menos fluorescente. En fin, a ver qué sus parece.

Interesting to see #gnome post about their #macOS CI builder issues the day after I posted a video about "understanding who your open source constituency is".

It's pretty clear that macOS users are not Gnome's constituency. Fine. But it also goes to show just how much #inkscape, #gimp and other Free Software downstream must also not be their constituency because we're so misaligned on this topic and there's no discussion about our relationship with gnome

Finally calling this vector art piece finished! It's based on the June #inkscapechallenge, whose prompt was ice cream.

I haven't done vector art in a really long time, and this is probably the most complex vector art piece I've done so far. I'm definitely still more of a painter than a vector artist - painting is a lot more intuitive; I kept switching between drawing freehand shapes and toggling bezier curve nodes with this but it was still a fun piece and I like how it turned out.

It's Shan Shan and her friends enjoying some dessert at the beach. The dessert they're ogling at is a delicious Southeast Asian shaved ice dessert called cendol, topped with a scoop of coconut ice cream (of course!)

Cendol (also spelt chendol) is a dessert made out of shaved ice topped with the eponymous green pandan-flavoured jelly, sweet red beans, gula melaka (coconut palm sugar, which is a rich brown color) and coconut milk. It's delicious enough on its own but ice-cream is always a plus ;)
