Any recommendations for a good ChatGPT interface addon for #NVDA so I can upload a file and run a prompt on it? Thanks! @NVAccess

On the other hand, insertion of comments (ctrl-alt-c) is still inaccessible with #LibreOffice Writer and #NVDA. #a11y

I must admit I was dismayed when I read about the price increases for #JAWS. I’ve been using it for nearly 20 years. I’m no expert, but I’ve got it set up the way I like it to do the things I need to do. I’ve still got a year left on my latest SMA, but at treble the price, can I justify taking out the new Home subscription. I suppose it works out at around £35 per month, and a screen reader is essential for me, but many folk won’t be able to afford that, especially as it’s only available through an annual payment.
Maybe it’s time to try #NVDA.

Remind me what the fiasco was with the built-in remote? While I use #NVDA, it's not my every dday use screen reader. I mainly use it for gaming ATM
#nvda

Looking at the #NVDA road map, it seems like they have two goals in mind for the future.

1: Fill the thing with AI and bloat (See the built-in remote fiasco. That was just the start.)
and
2: Collect more and more user data.

How about we not do that, please?

If you're keen to try the beta, but aren't sure how, download & run it just like any other copy of NVDA!

You can install it, but we recommend most users create a portable copy. Tips here: nvaccess.org/post/in-process-9…

Particularly test any highlighted features or those mentioned in the change log.

GitHub is the best place to report issues - steps here: nvaccess.org/post/in-process-1…

Or ask here or via email!

What other tips would experienced users give new testers?

For those of you who use the #unspoken#NVDA addon, I pushed fixes to it for the latest version of NVDA. I also filed an issue documenting the current state of the addon, and why it's going to continue to suck well into the future, unless we can find a #Python developer who's comfortable with #HRTF and other audio techniques, or get Python bindings to steamaudio or something similar and modern. github.com/masonasons/Unspoken/issues/16

***Attention! If you miss MSN/Windows Live Messenger, AIM, and/or ICQ, this is for you! If you use a screen reader and want a 100% accessible messenger client, this is also for you.*
This works with Windows XPthrough 11, and I'm logged into it as I write! It's called Escargot, and it revives Windows Live/MSN Messenger. This is the original software, but it has been patched so that it connects to the escargot.chat server and not the Microsoft one. It is 100% free and accessible with NVDA and I'm sure JAWS as well. They also have projects for AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) and ICQ, including for Android and IOS, and are working on a web client for MSN. (I don't know if AIM or ICQ are accessible with screen readers, as I have never tried them). Anyway, if you're over twenty-one (my personal request), have read my profile here, and wish to add me, I am dandylover1@escargot.chat. You can find everything here.

escargot.chat

Note: If you already have Windows Live/MSN Messenger on your system, you will still need to download their version and create an account. Your Microsoft, MSN, or Hotmail one won't work for signing in. Also, remember to click on RUN_AFTER_INSTALL.exe, in order to patch the program to the Escargot server.

@NVAccess I'll include this link in the issue but here is another example as far as chrome is concerned where the graphic raps and control down arrow does not appear to work 100 percent of the time.

Hi! Is there any chance we can encourage you to trend #NVIDIA when that's the company you mean, please? I know what their NASDAQ handle is, but #NVDA is much more widely known as the name of the screen reader we make and the #NVDA hashtag is very widely used for the screen reader. It will save both our communities polluting each other's feeds. If you'd like to find out more about the screen reader, our website is nvaccess.org/ - Thank you!

I wonder why the following is? I think it might just be windows 11, but I could be wrong. so when you look at the system tray with #JFW *everything* is get toable by first letter navigation, but the system tray in #NVDA some things you can't get to, because some of them seem to have a space before the first word. NVDA and JFW are seeing something different when you look at the icons in the system tray, and maybe JFW is compinsating for the space that shows up on some of them? maybe?

Being a blind student isn't easy.

Making a difference for kids in school, enables them to make a difference as adults in their community. Does your school have a student who could benefit from a screen reader? And a budget which could benefit from it being FREE? We have the solution!

Question for those who use #screenreaders (specifically #nvda with Firefox). How do you get the screenreader to announce the Firefox developer tools? All I seem to get is "Developer Tools frame, Inspector Panel frame, Markup View frame" and no announcement of the actual HTML displayed in the Inspector panel.

Navigating with the keyboard (arrow keys) doesn't announce anything either, nor does NVDA + arrow keys.

Retoots would be appreciated!

I want my system tray #NVDA addon back the author needs to update it. right arrowing threw all my system tray icons to find the one I want is a pain in the butt. I miss using first letter navigation to get to it quickly!

@amir Yep all good - and we would have found it with #NVDA tagged as well. Not sure if any of the other add-ons which haven't yet been updated for 2025.x do what you need, but it also seems like a fairly mainstream (non-screenreader specific) case - is there perhaps a regular program or browser extension which will do what you need?

I just looked for a favorites addon for #NVDA that will let me do something very simular to what leasie for JFW does with favorite web sites, and the only one in the store, that at least works with NVDA 2025 looks like it is called favorite links. This one is interesting, as it seems to have its own favorites thing. You press alt+win+k and it has a list of catigories, and a list of links. You can add a catigory, add a favorite, open a link, edit one, and such. This wouldn't work for me for two reasons. It isn't storing them in a folder like a favorites folder. It is storing them in the addon directly. Not only that, to use this one, I would have to start all over from scratch, and that deffinitly wouldn't do. I would have to slowly add all my favorites into this addon, and I have over 960 favorites! Can we say ouch? The other two favorites addons looks like they just give you quick access to folders you call favorites. They aren't updated anyway, but still, that deffinitly isn't what I am after, so no addon does what I want for favorites. It looks like someone needs to write one. @NVAccess
