The #CreativeFreedomSummit will start in 4 days, January 17-19!

Over 100 people have joined us in our Matrix/Element chat room from which the event will be streamed, and we look forward to chatting with you.

(Learn more here: https://creativefreedomsummit.com/)

We'll be covering @kdenlive, @Blender, @penpot, @inkscape, @GIMP, and @krita.

but that's not all... (1/2)

#OpenSource #art #Fedora

The #Fedora Project uses @matrix for our instant messaging needs (with IRC bridges also).

While the default experience is with #Element, there are several other neat Matrix clients you can use.

#Fractal, @neochat, and #Nheko are some great options to check out!

Then you can check out Fedora's Matrix room as well: https://matrix.to/#/#fedora:fedoraproject.org

I’m not going to use bloody bugzilla, so if anyone from Mozilla sees this, your enterprise flow for adding certificate authorities (CAs) to Firefox on Linux fails on Fedora Silverblue.

Since Fedora Silverblue is seen as the possible future of Fedora/Red Hat, you folks might want to talk to the Fedora folks about it and come up with a solution.

I'm experimenting with running my whole #swaywm desktop from a user #podman #container on top of e.g. #Fedora IoT. Works surprisingly well already.

https://github.com/martinpitt/swaypod

The only dealbreaker is that the container does not receive kernel uevents, i.e. it does not see any kind of hw change. It already uses --network=host and bind-mounts /dev.This is also broken in standard #toolbx. Does anybody know a trick to get that?

@signalapp does not support #linux on #aarch64 #arm, however, there is more than a project to support that unofficially, one of them is via #flatpak, which can be used with almost any linux distros, you can follow the link https://elagost.com/flatpak/ I am using it on #fedora @Raspberry_Pi

It's wild that I'm still the #3 contributor to the Anaconda OS installer used by #Fedora, #RHEL, and countless other #Linux distributions, at least according to Github stats. Love how the #OpenSource stuff you worked on can live on, and you can see it grow after you leave it behind.

Mouse cursor was totally wonky after this Saturday's #Fedora 37 upgrade. Some package bisecting led me to #GTK 3 apparently a discontinued cursor theme, and me having ancient settings in dconf. #regression

Not only it doesn't provide me with a solution, it doesn't even let me copy the error message to search for it. #fedora

Tak už máme oznámení o vydání #Fedora 37 venku i my. Pokud si chcete všechny informace přečíst pěkně pohromadě a v češtině, miřte sem: https://mojefedora.cz/vysla-fedora-37/

:fedora: #Fedora 37 je venku! 🎉

My jsme neuváženě těsně před vydáním přesouvali stránky na nový hosting, takže zatím můžeme posloužit jen oficiálním anglickým oznámením. 🙈

Dnes se koná pražská #Fedora 37 (pre)release party. Dojděte s námi oslavit nové vydání a podívat se, jak používá Národní technická knihovna Fedoru na veřejných počítačích.

#Fedora 38 is looking at providing #phosh image For mobile devices.

The Phosh (Phone Shell) has been started by Purism.

We're happy to see broader adoption of the #freesoftware on #mobilelinux 🚀

So remember how I was saying you shouldn’t have to know or care if your operating system is immutable for an immutable operating system to be usable by everyday folks? (You know, clever folks, like brain surgeons and astronauts, not just your regular garden variety tech hobbyist with time to spare following instructions from a wiki.)

Seems others think so too… #VanillaOS sounds very promising. #Fedora #Silverblue folks should take some notes.

Anyone know of a tool like Multipass (https://github.com/canonical/multipass) but for Fedora (and, ideally, Fedora CoreOS). So you can, for example, easily play with instance configuration, etc., locally?

I know I can use libvirt (and I did set it up after quite a struggle) but it’s a huge hassle in comparison.

Does anyone have a contact we can talk to at Hetzner to get them working with Fedora CoreOS so it’s supported as a first-class citizen on their platform?

The Fedora CoreOS folks are on board, now we just need someone from Hetzner.

Ah, interesting, so maybe the error message is wrong?

So this is one of the coolest things about Fedora Silverblue (apart from the excellent stability, speed, and gorgeous stock GNOME 42): the first entry you see is today’s operating system. The second one is yesterday’s. If I wanted to, I could revert to the latter with a single command.

Content warning: Ah, just saw that Fedora Silverblue 36 is out of beta as of two days ago. (Comes with GNOME 42 – which is awesome.)

Is it just me or can’t Fedora Silverblue install Flatpaks downloaded from the web (flatpakref) in GNOME Software?

(This is a valid, decentralised way of distributing software that doesn’t require centralised services like Flathub, etc. and should be supported as a first-class citizen in free and open operating systems.)

Tip: if you’re using the new GNOME Console and Fish shell, you don’t have to wait until the GNOME folks have colour schemes implemented if you want to customise yours.

fisher install FabioAntunes/base16-fish-shell

Then, in your console, type base16<tab> to see the list of different colour schemes you can try.

Not sure if there’s been a more recent update but this post on the future (and past) of Fedora Silverblue is very informative if you’re interested in learning more about this immutable OS that I’m loving so far.

Sadly, the IBus ctrl + . shortcut for inserting emoji also conflicts with GNOME’s ctrl + . shortcut for *drumroll* inserting emoji. So, when GNOME is being used, the distribution should really disable or change the IBus shortcut as GNOME’s graphical emoji picker overlay is far superior to the IBus’s.

Also, I think I’m going to end up changing 1Password’s shortcut as I want to be able to use the GNOME emoji picker popover on web forms too.
