Can #typos make lies seem less deceptive or make true statements seem less true?

“true statements with grammatical errors and unusual word choices were seen as more deceitful, and lie statements with the same language were seen as less deceptive” and “I discovered a new brain response that is sensitive to the difference between perceived truths and lies.”

Over the years, I have scoured the internet for various versions of the Mac HIG PDFs. Here is my collection so far.

Some neat ones include HIGs for Mac OS 8 & a preliminary Mac OS X version from the Public Beta.

These HIGs contain general desktop guidelines that still apply today & that you can't find in the modern HIG.

Please retoot! Everyone should read these.

an angry techbro story: one Michael D. Mintz forked an LGPL-2.1 codebase and unilaterally changed the license to MIT.

Now he's very, very angry because people pointed out that this is license terms violation, and asked him to either use LGPL-2.1 or ask the original authors to relicense.

the dude's some fucking automation lead at household name companies, for fuck's sake. he really should have known better.

In 2022, I left Google in search of a sustainable approach to open source maintenance. A year later, I was a full-time independent professional open source maintainer.

Today I’m announcing the natural progression of that experiment: Geomys, a small firm of professional maintainers with a portfolio of critical Go projects.

Nicola Murino, the maintainer of x/crypto/ssh, and @dominik, the maintainer of Staticcheck and Gotraceui, are Geomys’ first Associate Maintainers ✨

words.filippo.io/dispatches/ge…

The annual Tidelift maintainer survey is open for responses. It gets cited *all the time*—there really aren't many other sources for understanding of why maintainers do (or don't do) the things they do.

So please circulate widely in all the places you and your #opensource #FOSS maintainer friends hang out.

Ivory v2.0 is now available on the App Store! If you don't see it in your updates list right away, you can download the update here: apps.apple.com/us/app/ivory-fo…

More detailed change list is in the ALT text and on our App Store page.

We're excited to share an update from our ongoing project with the GNOME Foundation.

Building and testing system components is challenging, especially on immutable operating systems like GNOME OS.

To help solve the problem, we developed sysext-utils. This lean collection of tools streamlines the developer workflow via system extensions, making iterating on system components safer and more effective.

Do you want to help secure GNOME and get a reward? 🏅

We are testing a new program in which people get a payment for reporting and/or solving vulnerabilities.

From €500 to €10,000 depending on criticality 💶

For now only GLib is in scope but we will expand the list of modules and advertise as the program grows.

Just updated #Kitten¹ to include the latest version of Polka (the underlying router + middleware handler)—1.0.0-next.25—and to use @polka/send instead of my own fork since my PR that fixed custom headers in streams was merged².

You shouldn’t notice any difference. If you find any regressions, do let me know.

Servers will auto-update today and you can also manually update via `kitten update` on CLI and /💕/settings/kitten via web.

Turns out EU Commission doesn't want to follow all laws made by EU Parliament. Just like any other executive vs legislative two branch government.

🇬🇧 Von der Leyen‘s EU Commission sues the European Data Protection Supervisor to keep using Microsoft Office and Cloud Suite which violate EU privacy rules.

Did anyone hope this Commission would crack down on Microsoft for the violations?

I usually replace them all with ":separator.", with the colon at the beginning and period at the end being intentional to force a slight pause. But that's only because that's how NVDA speaks the `<hr>` element on a web page, and I'm used to it for that reason. What I'd really love is to be able to tell the speech synth to pause for N seconds instead, and/or play a small sound file. @modulux
