@NVAccess
Hi everyone, hope all is well! Quick question for those using NVDA on Windows. I’m trying to help someone by remotely controlling their computer using the built-in NVDA Remote feature. But when I press F11, I can’t seem to control the other computer. Any ideas or tips? Appreciate the help! We are on the latest update of NVDA.

People keep telling me I don’t know how good I have it. That modern systems are easy, and that accessibility has come so far I should be grateful. So I decided to test that claim the hard way.
I’m running Windows XP for a month. Not in a VM. Not themed. Real XP. Real hardware. A 2009 Samsung NC10, with 2GB of RAM, an SSD, and the original drivers I had to dig up from the depths of the internet.
No speech at install. I used OCR to get through it.
Display drivers broke four times.
Serpent is the only browser I could get working.
I installed Office 2003.
Got JAWS 15 running after a registry hack.
NVDA still works fine.
I even played some old audio games I never got to try growing up.
I haven’t found a decent ad blocker or antivirus yet. I’m not expecting this to go smoothly. I don’t even really believe I’ll make it the full 30 days. But I’m doing it anyway.
Day 1 is up. Written and published from Windows XP.

Hi! Is there any chance we can encourage you to trend #NVIDIA when that's the company you mean, please? I know what their NASDAQ handle is, but #NVDA is much more widely known as the name of the screen reader we make and the #NVDA hashtag is very widely used for the screen reader. It will save both our communities polluting each other's feeds. If you'd like to find out more about the screen reader, our website is nvaccess.org/ - Thank you!

@app
#BugReport:
With the current public version of the app, #jaws2025 does not read the results, if any appear when a user presses alt+u to bring up the autofill menu, while composing a post.

steps to reproduce:
1. Press control+N to create a new post.
2. start typing the name of an account you'd like to mention.
3. press alt+u to bring up the autofill list.

Does #jaws2025 read it for you? If not, you've just reproduced the issue.
Now, try those same steps with #NVDA2025.
What result did you get there?
For me, it worked with #NVDA but not #jaws.
Expected behavior:
If a list of results comes up when alt+U is pressed, it should be read, regardless of #screen-reader.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

NVDA 2025.1.2 has been released: nvaccess.org/post/nvda-2025-1-…

This release fixes a crash when opening certain Microsoft Word versions before version 16.0.18226.

Also, a reminder that if you have downgraded from 2025.x to earlier versions, your profile may become corrupted. This can cause your profile to be reset to factory defaults when you update again, but NVDA should work correctly after that.

I just submitted a feature request to #NVDA regarding creation of a more useful mechanism for editing the configuration on secure screens, to replace or augment the current clunky and all-or-nothing settings copy feature. Please give it some love! I don't think @NVAccess actually partakes in the whole vote with thumbs-ups to increase priority, but doing so might serve as a useful metric for how widely desired this is anyway, which could theoretically help with triage. If anyone who sees this is skilled and willing enough to actually turn this into a pull request, I would be very greatful! Otherwise, hopefully someone at NVAccess will take it up! It's about time we got a more useful means of customizing that other layer of NVDA.

Boosts appreciated: I'm a #Reaper user, and I think the latest update broke something. Alt + Shift + Left/Right used to move by grid division. In the midi editor, it only moves by beats now, regardless of grid division setting. I heavily depend on the midi editor, so this prevents me from making music entirely. I am using Reaper with #Osara and #NVDA. What's going on here, and how can I fix this? #Blind #Musician #Producer #Music

#NVDA Speech History version 2025.1 has been released, to be compatible with NVDA 2025.1. Additionally:

* There is now a setting to control what happens after copying a speech history item: nothing, beep, speak, or both.
* The post-copy beep frequency and duration are now configurable.
* In NVDA 2025.1 and higher, speech history items can be viewed and copied in a browse mode window. The default keystroke for this function is NVDA+H.

Has anyone else seen this? Partner @RainbowRemedy is having this strange bug with #NVDA and Chrome. Whenever she alt tabs out of chrome, NVDA just hangs, sometimes completely. Working inside of chrome is fine, and as I understand it, sometimes it will recover after a few seconds and it behaves fine on the rest of the system. She's on NVDA 2025.1, but this was happening on 2024 as well. Have checked after getting rid of any add-ons that might get involved with browsers. Haven't yet checked with all add-ons disabled to my knowledge, but unsure if that would make any difference, the list is rather short, but includes IBMTTS which she needs to be able to use it really. Has anyone else seen this and knows of a fix for it? Windows 10. Will not accept "don't use chrome" as an answer. #NVDASR #blind

Updated my #NVDA sounds bat file a little. Checks for three different paths and tries to copy your waves2 folder to waves in an easy step. You should be able to put the bat file into your path and run it from an admin command prompt in one fell swoop after each NVDA update to regain your chosen sounds. dropbox.com/scl/fi/q6opzygfdzs…

ok, I really like this speach history addon for #NVDA. this will be something that makes me use it more, although there are a couple other things I really need to be able to use it as a daily driver, but this is cool!

Seeing tons of updates for #NVDA in the last day, which is great to see of course. Really glad that even though it's been out for less than a week, so many things are getting dealt with. Community spirit and all that.

Dear #NVDA users, any clue how to avoid say all scrolling the braille display? I like having braille but it can get loud when it scrolls.

@sapphireangel @Lino_JR @cachondo @dhamlinmusic firstly, please do tag us (or at least use #nvda) if you want a response :) So 1) if we never updated, we'd still be on Python 2, which reached end of life 6 years ago. 2) Add-ons can potentially use ANY function or call within Python - we can't possibly support or even check them all. 3) We ARE doing something about this - we are working on a secure add-on API which will resolve breaking changes 1/2

Como es habitual, acabo de soltar algo de pasta para #NVDA tras la actualización. Si te beneficias de NVDA y tienes suficiente dinero, plantéate contribuir.

Ok, the #Thunderbird chat interface for IRC and Matrix seems to have #a11y issues with #NVDA now. Sometimes NVDA completely freezes, especially when the interface is maximised, though not reliably in all channels. I filed a bug, appreciate anyone who can dig into what on earth is going on: bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.…

Today I learned that NVDA + K reports the currently focused link destination, and I don't have to go to browser context menu, copy and read from clipboard. Oh well, you still discover new stuff after ages.

This Global Accessibility Awareness Day we'd like to shout out to our translators! NVDA has been translated into over 55 languages to provide access to technology for blind and vision impaired people around the world. Recently we spoke with Harun in Türkiye, who shared how access, in his own language, has helped him: nvaccess.org/post/harun-fast-l…

According to NVAccess, there are over 2,000 #NVDA open issues and if seeing one fixed is "particularly important" to me, they would "encourage hiring someone to work on it."

So how about it, #blind programmers? Your serious quotes for fixing this bug on a freelance basis:

On one hand, I'm glad that screen readers can do something with this new API out of the box. On the other, long-standing bugs exhibited by using live regions are still present with this new API, such as #NVDA not interrupting a normal-priority message when a high-priority one comes in. #accessibility

NVDA 2025.1 Beta 4 is now available! Changes from Beta 3 include:
- Updates to translations
- Fix security issue which allowed an arbitrary process to connect to a Remote Access session running on a secure screen
- Allow Remote Access leaders to regain control after the last follower has disconnected
- Improve focus handling in the Remote Access Connection dialog
- Don’t toggle Remote Access mute when not connected
