If I try to download an NVDA add-on using the one for the Spanish add-ons store I get an error message about SSL certificates.
This also seems to happen when any add-on tries to download something that isn't from NV Access's site.
Any idea why this is happening?

It's really interesting that most of the innovation in #NVDA addons is coming from the #Spanish community: the best translate addon, the most reliable addon directory, the maintained fork of NVDA Remote, Input Lock, the Mozilla addon...well over three quarters of the addons I have installed are developed by Spanish speakers. It really is a massive change from the days when basically all AT development happened exclusively in English. #nvdasr

#Chrome updated, and now:
* I have to restart #NVDA every single time I launch the browser, otherwise it refuses to read anything in the Chrome window.
* Someone wrapped a bunch of the UI in a landmark region, the name of which includes: the name of the current page, the name of the browser, and the name of the current Chrome profile. NVDA speaks this region's name and role whenever I move focus from the page document to the address bar. E.g. "Some Page Title - Google Chrome - James (<my email address>)".
* When Alt+Tabbing into Chrome, the word "window" is now spoken by NVDA after the window title.

#Google #accessibility strikes again.

I just submitted the following #Chrome #accessibility bugs, relating to using the latest update with #NVDA, to #Google:

1. I have to restart NVDA every single time I launch the browser, otherwise it refuses to read anything in the Chrome window. I.e. Chrome is not running. I launch it, NVDA doesn't read anything. I restart NVDA, and it works again, until I next close and restart Chrome.

2. A bunch of the UI has been wrapped in a landmark region, the name of which includes: the name of the current page, the name of the browser, and the name of the current Chrome profile. NVDA speaks this region's name and role whenever I move focus from the page document to the address bar, or to other parts of the UI like the menu button by pressing Alt. E.g. "Some Page Title - Google Chrome - James (<my email address>) region".

3. When Alt+Tabbing into Chrome, the word "window" is now spoken by NVDA after the window title, where it wasn't before.

4. While focused on the "Chrome" menu button after pressing Alt, the first press of Up or Down Arrow expands the menu as expected, but doesn't move focus onto the last or first item respectively. The same applies when pressing Space or Enter to expand the menu while focused on the button.

5. Within the Chrome menu, items that have an attached sub-menu do not convey this fact to the screen reader. E.g. NVDA only announces "Help e 19 of 22".

6. The Chrome menu can no longer be opened with Alt+F.

7. When using first-letter navigation to move to a sub-menu within the Chrome menu, where there is only one match for the letter typed, focus doesn't move into the sub-menu when it is expanded. E.g. open the Chrome menu, and press L. NVDA announces, "More tools l 18 of 22", but when I press Down Arrow, it says: "Name window… 1 of 5".

Most of the #Chrome #accessibility issues in my previous post are caused by Microsoft's UI Automation (UIA) API. If you want an #NVDA add-on to completely disable UIA in Chrome windows, here you go:

Is it just me or does the windows 10 emoji panel lag like mad lately with #NVDA? I think this must be since upgrading to 2024.3 as it didn't happen previously.

So, I'm genuinely curious. NVDA now has the ability to show text formatting in Braille. I don't mean through dot 7 and 8, or HTML-looking tags--although it can do those too now--but through the UEB, or whatever table you use, formatting symbols created for that Braille code. It also can now show paragraphs, either using spaces, or a Pilcro sign.

So, can JAWS do either of these? I'm seriously wondering, because people are *always* saying that JAWS' Braille support is the best in the industry. And I just want to make sure I'm using it the best I can. I also have Leasey, so if Leasey has features to help with that, @hartgenconsult I know there's the BrailleEase thing that I've not taken a look at yet. There's a ton of things I need to learn about Leasey.

For now, I know that iOS can show Braille formatting in the Books and Notes app, and the Mac can show it... in Safari as well I think. Linux... Well, Linux can't, besides the dot 7 and 8 stuff.

Braille formatting has really come far from the post I did like years ago, and I'm super happy about that. Hopefully it keeps going, especially in the age of multi-line displays.

NVDA 2024.4 Beta 2 is now available. Changes from Beta 1:

- The stability of NVDA’s Poedit support has been improved with the side effect that the minimum required version of Poedit is now version 3.5.

- NVDA is no longer as sluggish when arrowing up & down through large files in VS Code.

- NVDA no longer freezes while checking for add-on updates.

- Updates to translations.

So for this college class, we're using apache on windows for whatever reason, and I was trying to install xampp but the installer is not accessible. Has anyone had any experience installing xampp on windows? They do have a vm that I can access through vSphere but the web client doesn't let me use the entirety of my keyboard, like the windows, alt, and control keys so I can't get to the run dialog.

@dhamlinmusic Thanks for your help! To be honest, aside from about yourself, 99.9% of the time #NVDA is used to refer to NVIDIA stocks, it's spam / scam - I certainly wouldn't follow the hashtag for stock information - I'd follow the Stocks or Finance hashtags you also use. I'd be surprised if it's the only one - just looking back through, 99% of toots about SNOW are not about the stock - and that's what I was trying to do - ensure people following a hashtag get primarily ONE subject

@jcsteh There weren't too many stock related things on here when we joined, so I've been trying to get the jump on them - no one actually calls NVIDIA #NVDA - it makes sense for them to use #NVIDIA if that's what they want to talk about. Most people are good with it, but I generally tag our posts with both #NVDA and #NVDAsr just in case

Any #NVDA user has a suggestion on what I can do to get #Chinese #pinyin tone markers indicated when I read by letter? Some tone markers are, for example á or à, but others aren't.

Can anyone else read text they're writing in the latest #Thunderbird with #NVDA 2024.3? I couldn't in one email and thought it was a fluke, but I'm sending another and it's happened again. I can copy to notepad and type there, but that's just silly. I thought I might have an addon loaded that was breaking stuff but apparently not. This is a bad time.

Hot on the heels of today's release, our In-Process blog is out with all the info you need! Highlights of NVDA 2024.3, a note for RC users, thanks to SignPath, how to make the most of the new mouse wheel scroll commands, and a head's up about A11y Camp.

This is the longest of longshots but... people here seems to know everything about the most obscure stuff. Does anyone know of an #NVDA remote client for Linux? There is one for Android, sort of one for iOS, but I have yet to see one for Linux. I'm thinking it may not be difficult, and would definitely be nice to have. Servers/relays are already available, does anyone know of a client? Boosts are, of course, very welcome, indeed, they'd be appreciated. #blind #A11Y #screenreader
