Do you still use an old-fashioned landline phone service? Its days may be numbered as AT&T and other providers are moving to shut it down and replace it with an Internet-based phone service.
Some fibre to the premises installations have battery backup, which obviously helps in case of power failures. I assume ISDN lines are on the way out too - not just analogue phone lines. I'm quite surprised the analogue lines still exist at all in the U.S.
I fought the idea of getting rid of my land line for as long as I could, but the reality is that I mostly kept it around so that I could have physical buttons for dealing with automated phone systems. Just last month, I invested in a Blindshell phone and Tello mobile's unlimited talk plan for $8 a month. It was expensive in the short term to get the BlindShell, but I think it's going to save me a ton of money in the long run; my internet bill is now $67 as opposed to the $125 it was before, and I still have super fast home internet. Also, modern land lines stop working when power goes out, so having my landline phone number ported to Tello resolved that issue as well.
@Mitmee_Pie Is the blind shell, your only mobile phone, or are you using that simply as a phone to deal with times when you really want physical buttons?
@JamiePauls @Mitmee_Pie I basically use the blind shell as a glorified cordless landline phone. My iPhone 13 Pro is what I use for anything that I don't really, really need physical buttons to accomplish. I've turned off mobile data and Bluetooth on the blind shell. Anything involving apps, I most definitely prefer to do on the iPhone.

Very well. Triggered by this toot, I started another trial to setup pgp encryption with Thunderbird and k9 mail with my email account. This time, it seems to work well! Key import worked in k9 / OpenKeyChain, and they both behave well and do not interfere with day to day usage. Thanks folks for your work!

@tree The name might definitely not be the best one, I agree. But is your argument just going by the name, or did you check the app itself and found it offending? It's a Booru client, supporting a list of image boards. I'm not at all home in that area, so I stand corrected if I missed something.
I can't check it besides the description bc I'm not downloading "lolisnatcher", I think it's completely out of line for the devs to be naming it that regardless of what it is, it might be a useful app for normal image board stuff, but clearly the devs named it that for a reason, I assume one can access loli images, whether they are nsfw images, I'm not personally gonna verify. Like what name would be out of line if this isn't? It's concerning to see this app scrolling the repo.
@tree I have never used it myself. As pointed out, it was added back in 2021 (as I usually do NOT add imageboard or Manga clients by myself, it must have been requested one way or the other).
Scrolling the list of supported boards, I can only go by their names (and by screenshots) as I'm not active in Manga at all. An implication of the name I read only from your concerns, it didn't occur to me before. I can of course add NSFW (b/c "Hentai"?) so it's hidden from your list.
@tree PS: I've raised the question directly and openly with the author of the app, looking forward to their explanations. I agree with you that the name alone can feel offending (given you have the background to know that; to me it was not at all obvious when the app was added or it would not have been there). That the app is also on PlayStore can be *an indicator* of its "innocence" as well, though admittedly not proof.
Yeah I don't know, I appreciate you reaching out to the author I would be interesting in hearing their explanation too, I don't know if you can access nsfw content with the app, I would assume so since it's an imageboard viewer and there must be nsfw imageboards, if anyone knows for sure feel free to correct me, but, it's called "lolisnatcher" and the icon is a blushing child eating a popsicle which is pretty suggestive in itself that there might be more going on than just art.
@tree Ah, "suggestive" – that was the term I was missing. And yeah, I'm pretty sure you can access NSFW sites with Firefox, but that should be OK as long as that content isn't loaded automatically without you EXPLICITLY DEMANDING that. Err, did I say Firefox? Oops… You get the idea, right?
But yes, everybody should feel safe using my repo, so I'll not simply dismiss your concerns but follow them up. Let's wait what no-ob has to say on this. Please ping me should I not tell you within a week.
I mean I think the difference is that firefox is not called lolifox, if someone forked firefox and called it lolifox and changed the icon to a girl blushing eating a popsicle it would obviously be different, not in functionality, but in the purpose of the specific app/ what it's promoting. It's not really fair to compare it to a web browser in that aspect. But, thanks for looking into it.

"Unlucky choice that stuck" could explain. Action to rectify would help. We'll see. I just don't want to judge by prejudice. Mistakes can happen, and we can learn from them.

Tohle si myslím, že by nás jako bug report zajímalo! Může to být taky zapnutou nějakou hardwarovou akcelerací, kterou ten ovladač nedává, a její vypnutí by to vyřešilo.
Tak jsem na kouknul. 🔎 Pokusama jsem došel k tomu, že to spadne vždycky když je na stránce nějaký webgl prvek. Vypnutí hw akcelerace pomohlo, ale nakonec jsem došel k pravděpodobně lepšímu řešení. Nastavil jsem proměnnou MOZ_DRM_DEVICE=/dev/dri/card0 a tím (jestli to dobře chápu) donutil Firefox použít integrovanou grafiku na hw akceleraci.
Btw nikdy jsem si neuvědomil kolik webů má někde nějaký webgl efekt. Z mého pohledu prostě najednou spadl web na běžné stránce nebo doplňku. Například když jsem se pokusil Graze doplněk propojit s Mastodonem. Až teď jsem zjistil, že po propojení vyhodí webgl renderované konfety a to způsobilo pád. 🎊
Jo a ještě musím kouknout jestli nemám něco blbě nastavený v systému, protože mi přijde divný, že Firefox videa v pohodě přehrával přes integrovanou grafiku, ale na webgl zkoušel použít nvidii.
Jo a ještě mě zlobí, že Firefox občas bliká když okno ztratí focus. Mám pocit že mi to dělaly některý apky na XWaylandu, ale zdá se že Firefox jede přímo na Waylandu. 🤷
Technicky dobrý. Co uživatel? Umí se synchronizovat včetně nastavení mezi zařízeními? Chrome nebo Edge, přihlásím se a vše se nahraje. Ve FF to bylo složité jak hovado, proto se ptám. Jinak Samsung v mobilu je velmi slušný. Za mě lepší než Chrome.
Tohle si myslím, že mají pěkně vychytané. Stačí se přihlásit a během chvilky má člověk data sesynchronizovaná. Dokonce člověk nemusí ani vyplňovat přihlašovací údaje, stačí naskenovat QR kód, který mu to zobrazí. Ani jsem to nezmiňoval, protože to dnes považuju za standard, který má i konkurence, ale ve Firefoxu to teď IMHO funguje fakt pěkně.

I haven't found any UI for local LLMs that isn't annoying to use with screen readers, so I just made one for myself for Ollama called VOLlama. lol Hope someone finds it useful. Excellent news! What about editing text in edit boxes with GTK4's Wayland backend? Is this fixed or do I still have to use an X session to make it work.
I haven't reported a bug yet, but this is general GTK4 everywhere. Gnome calculator, anything with a search box, the gnome text editor, all do this. Tab or shift tab, text is announced because it's selected. The minute you try arrowing around or deleting things, Orca stays silent. Works perfectly fine on X though, tested with gnome calculator and the cursoring problems went away.
