Once the prosecutor & Trump’s #legal team have outlined their cases to the jury, the 1st witnesses will be called.

Colangelo is now describing the 2nd “#CatchAndKill” deal in question, relating to #KarenMcDougal, a fmr #PlayboyModel who said she had an affair w/ #Trump. #Colangelo says evidence will show that Trump “desperately” didn’t want that info public. “Before the meeting, during the meeting, after the meeting,” Colangelo says, #NationalEnquirer publisher was in touch w/ #MichaelCohen, putting this deal right at Trump’s doorstep.

It's really striking how much important #evidence in this opening was just allowed in, & emphasizes the importance of the judge's decisions.
When Colangelo said the "Access Hollywood" tape transcript depicted the defendant bragging about #SexualAssault, #Trump shook his head.

Colangelo says Trump told Cohen to drag out paying Daniels, in the hopes of getting past the #election & then not paying her at all.

#Colangelo described a communication from Keith Davidson, the lawyer for #KarenMcDougal, to Dylan Howard, a #NationalEnquirer editor, as it became clear Trump was winning the #election: "What have we done," he said.
Finished w/describing the series of payoffs, #Colangelo details the part the #criminal charges stem from. He is describing the paperwork arrangement to reimburse #MichaelCohen for the #HushMoney payment he made to #StormyDaniels, & how #Trump & #AllenWeisselberg, sought to “disguise” the repayment.
There were chuckles in the courtroom as Colangelo says Trump was a "very frugal businessman" who watched all the spending at his empire.
#Colangelo says #Trump's willingness to go to the trouble of the convoluted repayment scheme to #Cohen “shows just how important it was to him to hide the true nature of Cohen's illegal payment to Ms. Daniels & the overall #election #conspiracy that they had launched."
#MichaelCohen is a key witness. Colangelo explained the litany of problems w/Cohen to get ahead of defense’s attempt to discredit him - something Trump's lawyers can't do, their client won't let them: admit mistakes were made.
Because the prosecution bears the burden of proving its case beyond a reasonable doubt, it gets to go first (& last) in a #criminal case. The advantage of that can be seen in action here, as Colangelo gives the jury his own frame through which to view #MichaelCohen.
#Colangelo depicted #MichaelCohen as a flawed man who has lied before, saying he lied about the payment to #StormyDaniels initially "to protect his boss."
"This case is about a #criminal #conspiracy & a #coverup," Colangelo says, st the start of his conclusion of his opening statement, adding that at the end of the case, jurors will have no #ReasonableDoubt about #Trump's #guilt.
#Colangelo encourages #jurors to "tune out the noise" & "focus on the facts" during the course of the #TrumpTrial. He summarizes the evidence again, & says after all the evidence is in, Joshua Steinglass, another prosecutor, will do the closing argument.
He ends by saying there is "only one conclusion: Donald Trump is guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree."
Todd #Blanche presented the defense's opening statement.
"President Trump is innocent," are the first words of Blanche's opening. “President Trump did not commit any crimes." "He is cloaked in innocence.”
Blanche highlights that #Trump is entitled to the presumption of innocence, which is something that some of his more heated critics sometimes lose sight of.
Blanche seeks to have the jurors relate to his client, as he says Trump is doing "what any of us would do."
#Blanche said that the prosecution told a “clean nice story," but that it is not as simple as they would have the #jury believe. He said that many of the docs in evidence are almost a decade old. The testimony, he suggests, is similarly old. He said, the story that #jurors heard "is not true."
#Trump largely avoided looking at the jury during prosecution's opening statement. He shifted his body in their direction during defense’s.
#Blanche said #Trump put up "a wall" between himself & his company when he became president. We know from the civil #fraud ruling that isn’t true.
Trump always seems to get his lawyers to basically testify about how *successful* the #TrumpOrganization, has been. - Blanche went off on this success narrative for a while.
#Blanche downplayed the 34 charges of falsfying records #Trump faces as a "business records violation."
He highlighted the disparity between the $130k #HushMoney payment & what was paid to #MichaelCohen. He asks them, if Trump really was so frugal, would he have repaid Cohen so much? "This was not a payback," he said, adding: “He was President Trump's personal atty."

It seems like #Blanche will seek to convince the jury that everything was appropriate & done by the book, not even worthy of notice. That #Cohen was #Trump's lawyer, & he was paid for #legal services. But he'll also seek to distance his client from the matter: "President Trump had nothing to do w/the invoice," he said.
"I have a spoiler alert: There's nothing wrong w/trying to influence an election," #Blanche says. "It's called democracy." [not the charge. The charge is falsifying business records, the #MensRea is to influence. Besides which, influencing an election through illegal means is duh illegal]
"They put something sinsiter on this idea as if it were a crime," he continued. "You'll learn it's not."

The idea is around how to develop An Inclusive Mindset as it relates to product design. How to build software which is comfortably useful to as wide a spectrum of your users as possible. I then illustrate this with a variety of concrete examples from my work building Pedometer++.

At first I was trepidous about RTD's return (I still am to some extent) but this has given me some confidence. Rather than dismissing the Timeless Child, he is using it as a jumping off point for the new series
Many argued that the TC had taken the mystery away, but for me it added a whole new layer. Now he truly doesn't know who he is, where he comes from or how many lives he has had, and I hope this story is explored further in the years to come
I absolutely agree with your comments about the Timeless Child. It helped to explain some references in the classic series and I agree that it only added more mystery to the Doctor. I'd love to see a spin-off series about this either in audio or in book format. #DoctorWho

Is anyone free to help the developer of sway notification center out? I have opened an issue about sway notification center's accessibility regressions in the notification list, and I have also suggested that when the notification appears, the accessible event is fired. The dev doesn't know how to do this however, so any input or PR's that mention this issue would be greatly appreciated! github.com/ErikReider/SwayNoti… If we get this sorted, we will have a fully accessible notification daemon for all wlroots based compositors, which will soon include XFCE. The desktop Linux ecosystem has changed dramatically since accessibility was first implemented in GNOME over 20 years ago, and even since the accessibility stack was migrated to D-Bus roughly 15 years ago.
It was apparently well-attended for a breakout session at that conference. I was told there were about 30 attendees. I got some questions in the Q&A at the end, and a couple of people complimented me on the talk afterward.
That's great to hear! Desktop topics don't get a lot of attention at LF OSS events - apparently, we are not that interesting or so they think. We are in fact very interesting since people like you are building foundational technologies. As a group(GNOME), we don't really do a lot of outreach at conferences and don't get that much visibility. Are you local to the northwest or coming from somewhere else?
I traveled to Seattle at my own expense from Wichita, Kansas. I used to live in the Seattle area while I worked at Microsoft, and was hoping to catch up with old coworkers. That didn't end up happening, but I did have a meeting with someone at Microsoft, about accessibility in WSL's GUI application support (WSLg).
If this holds up, these guys just earned themselves a Nobel Prize.

@Vivaldi on mobile and @mozilla Firefox on desktop. Both respect user privacy and are run by trustworthy orgs (Mozilla is challenging that ;/). Having a tab bar on mobile makes Vivaldi by far the best for me.
I have set Brave as default one. I had Safari before but all DNS leak tests showed that Safari will not use any of my DNS profiles or configuration. Oddly only Safari forces its own settings in that regards
Firefox on all devices. I started using it in 2007 tried since then Opera, Vivaldi, Chrome, Brave, Falkon, Epiphany/GNOME Web, Edge (and DuckDuckGo on mobile) but always returned to #Mozilla #Firefox
Desktop: Floorp, FireDragon (both based on firefox). Open source and privacy oriented browsers. I also use Brave (based on Chiromium) fir Google stuff.
@davx5app My calendar events don't show attachments. I read the manual[1], but I'm not entirely sure I understand correctly. Is it impossible to view attachments to events?
Hi Hugo, nice to read you :) yes that is unfortunately true. Attachment sync is not supported yet (it is a complicated thing...). This will however probably be our next bigger feature thing after Push.

I tested the widget coming with the new version 4.3.16.1 but it didn't improve synchronization. From reading the release notes the widget is doing the same as if I open the App and trigger synchronization by pull down or klicking the sync button. This didn't work reliable before. Always had to do this many times including going to the individual accounts and trigger the sync there, which also didn't work reliable. Currently all that works is going to accounts in
Checking all ui-files from Xournal++ (Gtk 4 port) I found 4 issues that need to be solved, so that the .ui files can be converted to .blp when pasted into Workbench. They have all been reported: #59, #137, #139, #150. Issue #59 is currently closed, but it should be fixed nonetheless.

Hello, ancient Braille machine. I wanted to offer a minor correction: what you have is either the Braille Lite 18 (the version with the older-style serial ports and no superflash memory), or the Braille Lite 2000 (newer 9-pin ports and superflash). Both have only 18 cells. The only 20-cell version was part of the Millennium series, which had Doubletalk speech.
@sclower oh yes! I somehow keep mixing those two up, but a good one :) I thought someone had told me one time that they did produce a BLT-20 with a dual-double talk and Votrax chip, but I have no idea how true that it is. But either way that wouldn't have been a Braille Lite 18 one. I've never gotten a chance to use the 20-cell units but I'm tempted to snag one off Ebay or somewhere if it pops up and Piperize it xD
@sclower yeah, they had told me you could switch among the two synths in the voice parameters menu. But I was like, "hmm, I've never heard of such a thing, ever before." so until a unicorn Braille Lite like that turns up... When I do boot this one up it says "Braille Lite 2000 ready" so it is the one with the superflash at least! But slower 38400 Baud max as opposed to the BLT20 having the 115K one.
I love this. Just one thing to note: the Braille Lite models which used this voice were 18-cell versions. The 20-cell version was introduced with the Braille Lite Millenium, which had the DoubleTalk voice.
@sclower @DavidGoldfield Part of me wonders if using the newer architecture in the fork of github.com/mush42/piper could work better. My guess is the new types of voices work if this fork were compiled under Linux, which could also provide less lag there since decode and encode pipelines can run individually and more parallel.
@jaybird110127 Sadly, I can bearly understand this tts voice. I remember speech like this was awesome back in the day, but now, we're spoiled by much more realistic sounding voices. I can still understand the old echo, keynote, etc, but these old voices don't compute in my poor old brain any more. Thanks for sharing, though. I'm sure it was a very cute little story.

I told Chat GPT in custom instructions that we live in a world where everyone adds a random number of question marks from 1 to 9 after each word, and for it to only respond in this style of writing. It worked, when it spit out the story which I slightly modified, it did add them correctly.

I’m an investor and supporter, but this account of history diverges from reality a bit. Windows 10 Phone was previewed in 2014 and released in 2015 with convergence as a feature. It supported an external display, keyboard, mouse. It introduced "universal apps" with responsive UI based on screen size. Microsoft accomplished it and shipped it, but abandoned it when the market didn’t buy it after 2 years of trying. I loved my Lumia 950 and appreciate you carrying the dream forward.
