#A11Y #BlindTech I’m a user of whatifsports.com, specifically its simleague baseball feature. For some unknown reason, the website has stopped working regularly over the past week or so. Combo boxes fail to appear, although I see they are there if I use the JAWS cursor. In some other instances, whole parts of the website don’t present at all. Even more strangely, this behavior happens on both #Chrome and #Firefox but I can still access everything on #Edge just fine. I’m tempted to install #NVDA to see how things perform with it, but I’ve never used it so I suspect there’s a learning curve. I’m just flummoxed as to why the website has started acting like this.

Hi! Is there any chance we can encourage you to trend #NVIDIA when that's the company you mean, please? I know what their NASDAQ handle is, but #NVDA is much more widely known as the name of the screen reader we make and the #NVDA hashtag is very widely used for the screen reader. It will save both our communities polluting each other's feeds. If you'd like to find out more about the screen reader, our website is nvaccess.org/ - Thank you!

Nvidia’s Rally Faces a Reality Check

Citi’s price cut and rising competition test Nvidia’s dominance. While NVDA still leads AI infrastructure with soaring revenues and strong demand for Blackwell chips, challenges from Broadcom, hyperscalers, and China are real. Long-term strength remains, but it’s no longer a “buy at any cost” stock.

Is Meta the Next Nvidia? A Deep Dive into Its AI Potential

Meta is quietly becoming a serious AI contender, with $72B in AI infrastructure spending, superintelligence labs, and open-source Llama models. Despite 30% YTD stock gains, it trades at a big discount to Nvidia. With 3.48B daily users and massive cash flow, Meta offers muted downside and huge AI upside.

Thank you to everyone who attended the World Blindness Summit & WBU General Assembly last week in São Paulo, Brazil. It was an honour for NV Access to attend, and to have NV Access General Manager, James Boreham and NV Access director Emma Bennison present. It was an informative and uplifting week and a chance to meet many new people and hear people's hopes for the future!

Question for fellow #NVDA users: why has the Office Desk addon been discontinued? I saw the message from the addon itself and read the homepage. It says it has been discontinued and that I should uninstall it, but it doesn't give a reason for it. I'd understand if it said something like, "The features in this addon have been merged into the core," or something like that, but it doesn't. #Accessibility #Blind #ScreenReader

The #adGuard apps are fairly #accessible with #NVDA, just FYI. As is the interface for AdGuard DNS. I haven't tried VPN because I don't need that, and I don't run AdGuard home because I want to run my own DNS about as much as I want to run my own email.

Just for the heck of it, I decided to try #AI to fix an addon to run in the latest #NVDA alpha. I knew exactly what was wrong with it: it was importing a module included for #Python 3.11, and new alphas of NVDA are built with Python 3.13. I gave chat GPT the addon file, with this instruction: "In the latest alphas of NVDA, NVDA is now built with Python 3.13. That means this addon won't work. Please fix it." The simple solution would be to go get the right precompiled module from pip. But I didn't know if it would even be able to figure out what a .nvda-addon file was or how to fix it. Turns out it did. It spent six minutes, unpacked the addon, did things to the python code, then gave me back a new .nvda-addon file. But instead of just getting the right version of the module, it...rewrote the entire addon to not use that module. And its rewrite included some new features, while removing some existing ones. I'm kind of both impressed that it was able to handle the entire task on its own, and baffled that it did it in the hardest possible way. It even updated the manifest file correctly. It also left commented out sections of code, and created some Python files it never wound up using for anything. You could kind of see it doing something, forgetting what it was doing, then going to do the same thing a different way, but not deleting the half-completed evidence of the first attempt it abandoned for some reason. If more and more people use AI, code is going to get really, really weird and organic, y'all.

Will browsers and screen readers respect the #html lang attribute #WordPress allows us to set on paragraphs?

TL;DR; most browsers "read aloud" feature ignores element specific lang attribute, but dedicated screen readers like #NVDA and Apple #VoiceOver do fairly well!

I've installed the 20 most spoken languages in #europe on my PC and virtual Mac.

Blog post is in the making, so feel free to ask questions and send me on even more side quests 😁

Ok so does anyone know why with #NVDA I cannot send an email in #Outlook? I hit reply, type the email, and cannot exit the edit area and find the send button. Latest release builds of Windows 11 pro, and Nvda 225. @main @mastoblind @NVAccess

One of the benefits of eSpeak-NG is that it doesn't make assumptions like reading "CUP" is Cuban Pesos (hello US OneCore voices) - but the flip side is that eSpeak will read the year 1987 as "nineteen hundred eighty seven". If you'd like it to read that as "nineteen eighty seven" & learn a little #regex on the way, then @fastfinge has you covered with the "Correcting Years With NVDA and Espeak" blog post: stuff.interfree.ca/2025/08/28/…

Has anyone started a set of #NVDA dictionaries for the #blastbay#TTS voices yet? Now that the SAPI bugs in #NVDA are fixed, I'm trying them out for a while. Problems I'm noticing: number reading is...weird. And change pitch for capitals doesn't work. Also, a set of NVDA dictionaries will be really badly needed. It's not as bad as eloquence, but I've got five entries after just a few minutes use. But these on Windows and the Siri voices on IOS could maybe, finally, perhaps, get me off eloquence.

so here we are maybe a week and a half or so, and I have been using #NVDA 99 percent of the time, and I still have the station playlist studio addon disabled, and I still haven't seen any major system slowdowns or anything like that. I think we can safely say at this point that addon is what was causing my very randum slowdowns, and freezes. I can't believe I have been using NVDA this much lately. I will say that if it wasn't for a few things I would probibly convert to NVDA on a more perminate basus. there are a few things that keep me from doing that though, so while I will continue to use NVDA most of the time, there are just things that I will be keeping JFW on here for.

No problem - and you used hashtags which meant I easily saw it anyway since I follow #NVDA :)

To NVDA users: Is anyone else having a problem with the NVDA+D keystroke to read additional details on something. Specifically, I went and tried to read the long description on a table in Word and while the long desc was in the description field, the file was a .docx, I am using 2025.2 of NVDA, Word365, and nothing I have tried returns anything but "No Additional details." Just reaching out in case there is something I missed. Tagging the professionals too.

NVIDIA posted 69% revenue growth to $44B, eyeing $45B next quarter. But sky-high expectations, chip export bans to China, and AI market uncertainty keep shares volatile despite 1300% gains in 5 years.

This week's In-Process is out. Featuring all the news on NVDA 2025.2, info on the upcoming NVDA 2025.3, a recap on restarting after updating (no we're not about to enforce that!) and a look into the namesake feature of Microsoft Windows... and just how complicated ARE the Windows+arrow key commands? (Very, but we break it down for you!) All that and more, available now: nvaccess.org/post/in-process-2…

Following a discussion in the user group, which essentially revolved around "After updating to a new version of NVDA, it should FORCE you to restart the PC", I thought I'd just ask here: SHOULD NVDA force you to restart the PC after updating? (The argument being, that sometimes we see quirky behaviour after updating but before restarting. Currently we simply advise you to restart if you encounter something unexpected).

#NVDA #NVDAsr #Accessibility #Poll #Update #Updates #Question

  • Yes, NVDA should force you to restart after updati (14%, 12 votes)
  • No, don't make me restart after updating. (85%, 73 votes)

We approve use of #NVDA every day of the week! We do firmly believe it is the best screen reader on the market ;)

(Yes, I know you meant Non-Violent Direct Action - we are much more used to it as the name of the "Non Visual Desktop Access" screen reader used by blind people around the world)

Have you completed the 2025 NVDA Satisfaction Survey? It's a short 3 question survey, but it's a great chance to have your say on the most popular free screen reader for Windows! What are we doing well? What can we improve? Please let us know: nvaccess.org/survey

anyone familiar with VSCode and Jupyter notebooks on here?

we're switching to VSCode in our computer science class this year; my question is, how accessible are Jupyter notebooks to screen readers? are there any pitfalls we need to be aware of? what keyboard shortcuts do we need to know?

ok, I just disabled the station playlist studio addon for #NVDA, and restarted NVDA, so lets see what happens.
#nvda

looking at this #NVDA log trying to see if I can figure this out, one thing I am seeing a whole olot of is from the studio addon, and I am not even touching the stuff for studio. oh sure studio is running in the background as that is what is running my stations automation, but I am not seeing things for other addons, just the studio one. a lot of the lines look something like this.

DEBUG - external:appModules.splcommon.splbase.studioAPI (22:29:41.255) - MainThread (15036):
SPL: Studio API wParem is 0, lParem is 124
DEBUG - external:appModules.splcommon.splbase.studioAPI (22:29:41.255) - MainThread (15036):
SPL: Studio API result is 71

a few more #NVDA questions. Lets say I all of a sudden have the freezing issue I am talking about. do I stop what I am doing right away, and do the view log right away to see if something shows up at that time? If I do find what the NVDA devs are after, how do I send it to them? meaning where is the file I need to send to them, and what is the best method of getting the log to them? I assume there are some of you that have done this loads of times, so you might know the answers to these questions.
#nvda

nevermind, I just found it. now my #NVDA should be logging debugging. now should I restart NVDA to make it start doing it, or will the log file change right away to having the debug stuff?
