Všem, co tvoří videa pro #VHSky bych chtěl poděkovat. Obzvlášť těm, co nahrávají pravidelně.
Já vim lidi, že nemáte tisíce shlédnutí, jako na #YouTube, nikdo vám nikdy za nic nezaplatí (naopak část vás spíš platí, aby nějaký VHSky byly :)) a je nás tam málo, ale když se podíváte, tak dneska už to neni poloprázdná stránka s ničím.
Jsou tam recepty, zvířátka, IT věci, přednášky i filmy a to všechno jen díky vám všem.
Teď bych ale měl žádost/prosbičku/apel na vás. Chtěl bych, aby tenhle post měl co nejvíc přesdílení a komentářů, aby o projektu vědělo co nejvíc lidí a třeba někoho dalšího napadne, že to jeho háčkování, 3Dtisky, výlety, politalky nebo třeba jiný varianty broukpytlingu můžou bejt pro někoho zajímavý a natočí je. Nebo někdo, kdo o VHSkách ještě neví začne pravidelně sledovat :)
Zároveň chci požádat o diskuzi o tom, co vám tam chybí, přebývá nebo co by šlo vylepšit. Chtěl bych vědět, proč tam jste (anebo ještě nejste :) ) a jestli třeba neznáte nějaký zajímavý účty, co ještě nemirrorujem.

Robert is blind and has a stutter. He has very deep thoughts on old people, taxes, and animals. And finds Santa Claus to be very rude that he never responds to children's letters. So Robert I'm not disabled and haven't really worked around anyone that's been disabled, so if you have any suggestions for me going forward, please do not hesitate to help me learn.
A slightly older demo I did of Ear Hockey for Windows wherein I play one game on extreme mode, showing how both blind and sighted gamers can play without sighted people needing the same accessibility features I need to play the game.
Now and then, I always see videos coming from an instance of #peertube and the screen reader #accessibility of the embedded player just gets better. I heard before that it also works for #audio now, I am seriously thinking of hosting an instance here if it's lightweight enough for this system.

Dear Fediverse, I am looking for a super simple streaming tool that is just as brilliant as OBS, but only for the use case of streaming a presentation (yes pptx is still dominant 😞).
But webcam on, select presentation..and GO GO GO!
There may be a config button on it.. but for the stimulation of more (live) broadcasting via PeerTube that is not a USP. it has to be simple above all! 95% of the use cases in my opinion.
A (hopefully good) comparison of decentralised video sharing platforms like @loops, @peertube and @owncast to centralised platforms like Youtube and Tiktok went online yesterday.
Platforms like Loops and PeerTube offer new ways to share videos, in a world where the monopolies of YouTube and TikTok dominate video-sharing, while prioritizing user control, privacy, and federation.
Please consider hosting videos on other places than just #YouTube.
#Google is making it increasingly difficult to view their videos in ways that don't make you choke on their surveillance, ads and cookies. I will *never* load a video directly from YouTube, and I know I'm not the only one.
Please consider posting them on #PeerTube and sync that to YT for the people who still don't understand how evil Google is.

As 2024 comes to an end, it’s time to reflect on what we’ve built together during the first full year of life for BSD Cafe. Launched on 20 July 2023, this project has grown far beyond what I could have imagined. While I haven’t tracked full uptime data, I can confidently say that the downtime was less than 30 minutes overall - even though the main VM hosting our services moved multiple times (including a switch from a Proxmox hypervisor to bhyve on FreeBSD, for the sake of alignment with our mission). In a world filled with over-engineered HA systems, we’ve outperformed many “big-name” cloud providers. Not bad for a community project, right?
For me, this has been an incredible journey. The users here are not just participants - they’re collaborators, and their positivity has been inspiring. The content shared and created at BSD Cafe has been valuable not only to the BSD community but beyond. What truly sets BSD Cafe apart is the openness for dialogue and exchange. Whether it’s social media posts, Matrix discussions, repositories in our brew, or RSS feeds, people seem to genuinely appreciate what we create and the conversations we foster.
BSD Cafe is a journey - one that grows, evolves, and continues. Our goal isn’t endless growth (we’re a community, not a business) but rather to maintain a welcoming, inclusive space where everyone feels a sense of positivity and belonging. For me, opening any service with “bsd.cafe” in the domain brings joy and pride. That’s the spirit I’ve tried to convey, and I hope it resonates with all of you, whether you’re active BSD Cafe users or friends of the community.
Promoting self-hosting and #OwnYourData has, as a side effect, inspired some users to “go solo” with their own setups. But even then, they remain part of BSD Cafe - in spirit, in purpose, and in connection.

Also I appreciated that all my simple CSS customizations are compatible with the new UI. I hadn't have to change anything after the update. Very well designed styling. 👍
I just learned one thing about #Peertube that can make it quite attractive to content creators. Peertube channels have #podcast feeds, and most podcast apps can play video podcasts these days. You can submit the feed to Spotify or Apple Podcasts, making it available to millions of users. AFAIK, you can't do that with videos uploaded to #YouTube channels. I haven't tried if it really works. But if it does, it's a big deal. This is how @mestskacyklistika looks in the #Podverse app.
