Adwaita is really pretty freaking great. It makes designing responsive apps just… easy?? Here’s an update to Butler, my Home Assistant app, for GNOME 47 and Adwaita 1.6.

Update coming soon to Flathub!

After almost a year since the last release, a new version of #Eyedropper is now available.
It now features a color editor, allowing to directly modify picked colors, a new warning page for unsupported systems (Thanks to @bragefuglseth for the illustration) and a rewritten color conversion backend.

The new version should be available on Flathub soon.

GNOME 47 (codename “Denver”) is out today! I’ll be celebrating by upgrading my desktop to Fedora Silverblue 41 beta.

My favorite feature is definitely Accent Colors, but there is a lot of refinement and polish in this one. Check it out:

Since this post, a lot has been added :blobcat_engineer:

Some of the features include:

- Find on Page
- Bookmarks
- Downloads
- History (to be optimized)
- Screenshot Entire Page
- Private Browsing
- Permissions

I've been daily driving it now for testing purposes, and I'm pretty happy with the state. One major task left is adding autosuggestions in the address bar though, which will be a challenge :blobcatglare:

I have been working on the UI, among other things for Navigator with @kramo :blobcatHuggiesfox:

I think it's looking nice :blobcatthumbsup:

I’m currently working on a new Python WebKitGTK browser for GNOME. I’m aiming for it to be a better foundation to work on than Epiphany which has a huge C codebase and some outdated UI patterns. :blobcat_engineer:

I upgraded #GNOME #Calls to #gtk4 + #libadwaita for fun. It's now released in v47.0! Should be available soon in your #LinuxMobile distribution of choice 🚀

Massive thanks to @devrtz, @agx, @brainblasted, and Maximiliano for putting up with my beginner-level GTK skills!

I released #GNOME #Calls 47.0 yesterday 🚀 \o/

This is the first release running #gtk4 and #libadwaita

Thanks a lot to everyone who contributed code, translations and bug reports!

Find the release notes at gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/calls/-…

And of course, it has already been uploaded to :debian: 🎉

Upscaler version 1.3.0 was just released! The release is pretty large and includes some nice features and visual improvements:

- Introduce queue system to allow users to upscale images right after the other
- Add branding colors
- Port to latest Adwaita widgets
- Allow dropping remote images
- Allow pasting images from clipboard
- Make window draggable from anywhere
- Delete temporary file when unused
- Switch to Upscayl-NCNN from Real-ESRGAN ncnn Vulkan
- Update and rework translation
- Add Bulgarian translation

Unfortunately, I completely forgot that the GNOME 47 runtime isn't released yet. The update will be available later once the GNOME 47 runtime is out. If you want to try it out, you can build it from source (roughly a few minutes) using GNOME Builder: gitlab.gnome.org/World/Upscale…

Anyone knows why #gnome-software and #KDE #discover are so slow with #flatpak?

Like often when I'm downloading sth. I can't browse apps or they load for ages. Using the website works instantly.

It feels and is a lot more reliable to use flatpak from the terminal in my experience, I wonder why the #GUI stores have these problems.

Also often had long load times in those stores on #linux mobile.

Did you also experienced such issues? Are you a gnome/kde dev and know where it could come from?

Happy to see Papers, the #GNOME document viewer, gaining support for digital signing PDFs. gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/Incubat…

The release of #GNOME47 is imminent and our #translators have done their usual amazing work! There was a lot of #Accessibility work this cycle and #translations are a big part of that.

With a few days left, this is a great cycle to improve the user experience for non-English #ScreenReader and #Braille users.

Just pushed another #GNOME Shell Mobile release, mostly bugfixes and small things this time (like adding back the uclamp patches from Andrei, so performance should be better again).

Something I was working on over the week-end: raw thumbnailer for #GNOME. I updated my old one, rewriting it in Rust.

The JPG use the standard thumbnailer. The DNG use mine. And for this specific file there is not even a preview of that size to extract.

(works with most camera raw files)

Pro tip for @gnome newcomer contributors: you can subscribe to specific labels/tags for newcomer-specific email notifications in a project.
If you go to gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-c… for example, you can subscribe to be notified each time I tag a GNOME Calendar issue as newcomers-friendly (in terms of implementation difficulty).

You can of course also click those labels anywhere you see them in GitLab to see a list of issues filtered with that label.

I've always envied Adobe Reader/Acrobat users and tablet apps users who have forever been able to freely write on PDFs as if they are physical sheets of papers. Yes, you can use #Xournal++, but I want it as a streamlined UX built into my day-to-day #GNOME PDF reader app.

Although it was not implemented in #Evince, the #Poppler library has some support for ink-like handwritten #PDF annotations.

I have now put together usecases & broad ideas into this #GNOMEPapers ticket: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/Incubat…

Looking for more internship project ideas for Outreachy (December-March cohort)

GNOME is interested in participating in the Outreachy December-March cohort, and while we already have a few great projects, we are looking for experienced mentors with a couple more project ideas. Hurry up, we have until September 11 to conclude our list of ideas.

Please, submit project ideas on gitlab.gnome.org/Teams/interns…

Feel free to message us on #internships:gnome.org (matrix) if you have any doubts.

ATTENTION THAI/ENGLISH BILINGUALS AND TRANSLATORS

GNOME Shell's Thai translation is in a very sad state right now, with only ~46% of all strings translated. The worst part is, the first dialogue you see on your first login is not even translated!

BUT YOU CAN HELP!

Maybe it's just my impression, but the interface of the computers in the NEPS offices on #ZenlessZoneZero has a somewhat #GNOME feel to it, especially the app interface (similar to Libadwaita) 😂

Someone who writes a 16-thousand-words-long rant about #GNOME titled, "I Don't Care for GNOME", listing every pet peeve they have with GNOME not being perfect or not adhering to their UI worldview, is someone with an incredible amount of free time and negative energy on their hands that could have been channelled to something else on a Saturday afternoon.
Or, y'know, they could have just continued to use KDE as they have been doing until now, and let GNOME users appreciate it on its own merits.

Yay! XWayland fractional scaling that @jadahl and I worked on landed in mutter yesterday and will make it into #GNOME 47 🤩

Also big shout-out to the GNOME STF project for funding my work on all this!
