If like me, you can't see at all, there's no reason to have your 14 Pro or later pro-model iPhone's always on display turned on, and you might even be able to gain some battery life by turning it off. Just go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Always on display, and toggle the "Always on display" switch off. #TipTuesday applevis.com/podcasts/how-disa…

Fellow comrades in #academia - there’s a very cool project launching called Science Homecoming, that allows you to find local papers from your hometown and encourages you to pitch them an opinion piece about the current attacks on #science and #highered.

I pitched a piece to my hometown paper and they got back to me in about 10 minutes saying they definitely wanted to see it. So think this is a simple thing to do with high impact potential

Typically Linux distros have a live system to run an installer that installs a second system. What if instead, we booted from the ISO into the installed system and saved it to disk in the background while already using the system. I call it prêt-à-booter image, and I have made a demo for GNOME OS.

Yo!

I have been building a universal fedi client called #DhaagaApp

It supports all 3 biggest decentralized protocols (#mastoapi, #bluesky and #misskey)

It has pretty timelines, unique client-side features and a modern, aesthetic design.

It's available on Play Store and #IzzyonDroid

Do have a look, and share with your friends if you like it. ^^

I also post frequent devlogs and am always excited to receive feedback.

Hello all. As many of you know, I've been writing BLOOD IN THE MACHINE: The Newsletter for months, but I've been on the fence about going all-in. Recent events have made the call easier.

Elon Musk, the Silicon Valley oligarchs and their AI are taking over. I want to do all I can to push back. I hope you'll join me, and I'm asking for your support.

“DEI bad. Affirmative action bad. We should only care about technical merit”

Well this kind of thing is what happens when you have products that aren’t made by diverse teams. In this specific case, diverse just means from parts of the world with different weather. Now magnify that by a language or cultural difference or a disability and your product probably accidentally excludes a whole lot of people

If anyone uses Android with TalkBack and the onscreen Braille keyboard, please try to reproduce and report this issue:

In Talkback, if onscreen keyboard echo is set to words, and a word with punctuation after it is typed, TalkBack does not read the word when Space is typed. Similarly, if an emoticon is typed, like ":)" nothing is spoken when Space is typed.

Steps to reproduce:

• Turn on TalkBack, and open TalkBack settings by tapping once with three fingers. Set up the TalkBack Braille keyboard under the Braille section.
• Go to Verbosity settings, then the keyboard echo option for onscreen keyboards, and set it to "words."
Now, open a text box, turn on the TalkBack Braille Keyboard, and type something like "this is a test." Note the period after test. Then, swipe right with one finger to enter a space.

Expected results:

TalkBack should read "this" "is" "a" "test period."

Actual results:

TalkBack reads "this" "is" "a" and is silent after test is written.

I also put it up on Google's issue tracker if anyone wants to start it.

Hey Mastodon !
Boosts bienvenus.

If anyone is looking for a good notes app to sync between iOS and windows, check out Joplin. They have really been working on their accessibility with screen readers for a while now. I can say I am quite impressed with the Windows and iOS apps accessibility.
@joplinapp is their mastodon profile.

🚨 BREAKING 🚨

#Google just launched a new era of tracking. Digital #fingerprinting.

Is there some magic making three times, or even pi, the number of times you need to write code for it to be good?

A brutal, gory fanfiction is perhaps not the best choice when you can't sleep because of a headache, but I remembered this one was short, intense, and just the sort of thing to suck me in when I needed to focus on something away from my own pain. reread from March last year, so it's been about 12 months...

The Unforgiving Minute, by Voice of the Nephilim.
Broken and defeated, the War long since lost, Harry enacts his final desperate gambit: Travel back in time to the day of the Third Task, destroy all of Voldemort's horcruxes and prevent the Dark Lord's resurrection…all within the space of twelve hours.
