The EU is mandating messaging apps be compatible with each other, but the current plan is looking less like #federation and more like "register your chat app with Meta, send them all your data, and link with their prescribed APIs that they may decide to change any day"

At the risk of preaching to the converted, here's @guusdk advocating for *real* interoperability between messaging apps, using an existing, battle-tested, #IETF-backed standard: #XMPP! :xmpp:

Just over 8 years ago, I accidentally recorded about 11 days of audio from the Internet stream of a former local radio station (I only meant to record a clip from the morning show). More info, and the full audio (assuming I won't get in trouble for this), here: mwcampbell.us/q92-time-capsule…

I started re-listening to this yesterday, and here's one excerpt: an EDM remix of "Counting Stars" by OneRepublic, surrounded by station IDs. Anyone know what this mix is called?mwcampbell.us/q92-time-capsule…

We published a guide showing how to use Matrix bridge from ejabberd, demonstrating how you can talk with Matrix users from your XMPP client.

If your organisation needs to be on many social networks at once, there are paid social management services which include support for Mastodon such as Buffer at buffer.com/mastodon and Publer at publer.com

However, if you just want to schedule your Mastodon posts you don't need to use commercial services. Mastodon has its own built-in free open scheduling system available through third party apps (more info at fedi.tips/scheduling-posts-on-…).

“Hacking Accessible Pedestrian Signals is Not a Joke: It’s a Civil Rights Violation” from @LFLegal lflegal.com/2025/04/aps-hack/

Yeah, not only is this bad form it’s also potentially deadly. Lainey does a good job of laying out the history and what went into originally getting these in place. These jerks undermined it all.

I've been in talks with #TheCrowHillCompany, makers of The Vertical Piano, Vaults (free), String Murmurations and so on.
They wanted to find out about people's use of accessible music-making tools such as NKS, so I said I'd forward their email to other VI musicians.
Your feedback would really help them, so if you've a mind, please do fill it out.

The Crow Hill Company are readying a re-launch of our entire catalogue.
As such as are looking to improve our accessibility across our full instrument and effects range.

We would love to discover more from the community on how they interact with software based instruments and the tools they use to do so.

We have included a short survey link below, and as a token of gratitude have included a £20 (GBP) off coupon code for anyone who takes part in the survey.
The coupon has no expiration date and we have plenty of instruments under this limit coming out in the months ahead for you to enjoy.

Thanks again

@pitermach It's using Juce, but with a lot of unlabelled buttons. They do know about it, as I had a meeting with them this morning and was able to screen-share and let them know that lots of stuff doesn't work.
It seems that they're using the Ujam libraries, so it's up to Ujam to modify their code to allow accessibility, but they can pass this feedback to them.
Rodes also use the same framework.

If you've got any libraries where the main sample content uses the .blob format, then you've used Ujam's UI's.

Oh boo hoo! Someone doesn't like the new alt text warning on Mastodon!

> This warning is extremely annoying, I wish I could get rid of it and be allowed to post images without alt text if I want to without being asked every time like every other website. I know it is not ideal for accessibility, but I'm not going to add alt text because the warning tells me too, I'm too busy already procrastinating my life in other ways.

Go cry me a fucking river.

How can we make assholes like this even more mad?

@ZBennoui
That's fair comment, but the OP is highlighting the fact that Google (and others) are deliberately making it difficult to opt out of using these AI models, presumably to drive adoption and encourage engagement for training purposes.

This obvious subterfuge combined with what we already know about echo chambers and social media herding leaves me wondering whether those who refuse to use AI will end up being the last free-thinkers in the West.

in reply to NV Access

2024.4 had the same behaviour as 2024.1, but I have easier access to the latter I'm using the same browser for both tests, although I am finding that NVDA with Edge seems to be becoming problematic on more and more sites, and similarly with NVDA and Firefox. It's getting to the point where most sites seem to work with one or the other but not both. I doubyt that is NVDAs fault, but it's getting harder and harder
in reply to Dave Taylor

@davetaylor2112 Configuration Profiles are actually very useful for giving you different settings in different contexts. Here is a blog piece we wrote on using configuration profiles between programs: nvaccess.org/post/in-process-1… You can also set keystrokes to configuration profiles to use, for instance, on different websites within the one browser
