Once upon a time, there was a cool emulator frontend called Retroarch. This emulator wasn't accessible until I and a few other gamers went to them and asked about adding accessibility. An amazing person known as BarryR made it happen. Now, if you turn on accessibility mode in settings, or pass the "--accessibility" (or something like that) flag on the command line, you get spoken menus, including the emulator's pause menu, good for saving states and such. Then, using PIL and other image processing Python utilities, running a server and hooking into Retroarch, the script allowed players to move around the map, battle, talk to NPC's, ETC. The only problem was, no one wanted to test it. The blind gaming community pretty much spoke, saying that we want new games. We want cool new, easy accessibility. So that's what we have no, follow the beacon or get sighted help in the case of diablo and such. It's sad, but meh. It's what we wanted I guess. No Zelda for us. So, this is about as far as he got:
To expand on what devinprater was saying: I am working on an accessibility pack/service for Final Fantasy 1 for the NES (this was what was shown in the latest RetroArch update). The idea is similar to how Pokemon Crystal access works, but it's using the RetroArch AI Service interface to do so. Right now, the FF1 access service is mostly done, but I need more testers to try it out and give me feedback on how it's working. Right now, you can get up to the point where you get the ship, but there's no code to deal with how the ship moves, so that still needs to be done. Likewise with the airship later on. The service works the latest version of RetroArch, on linux and mac, but not windows. This is due to how nvda reads out the text and until the next major update to nvda (which will have a feature to fix this), it'll have to wait. If you have those, I (or maybe devinprater) can help you set it up on mac/linux to test out. Many of them huddled in smaller, less urban areas because of anti-Chinese violence in San Francisco Chinatown; as well as to flee white supremacists who killed them, at various points throughout the late 19th and early 20th century.
That gives me more perspectives when I read stories like these.

The scammer is on the phone to you. Their accomplice is on the phone to your bank, pretending to be you. Your bank send you the notification. You accept, and scammers proceed to drain your account.
I think I’d be taken in by that. My thought was: why do they need to check they’re on the phone to me if *they* called *me*? But on balance I’d decided it was just poor wording or an ill thought through system (both of which I still think, in fact!) so I wouldn’t have challenged it.
@flabberghaster I have had my actual bank call me, and then ask me (via security questions) to verify that I am actually me. I feel that was *training* customers to divulge information insecurely, as I had no way of knowing that they were who they were, and they wouldn’t have provided it if I’d gone along with their request.
@simonwood yeah, same. I had told my bank I intended to travel internationally and then when I got there my card stopped working and they called me saying there was suspected fraud on my card. I knew it was legit because I called back on the number on my card, but I think it's bad practice to initiate calls.
@flabberghaster @simonwood Indeed. They should, probably, do it like the good banks send mails: plaintext notification, no link at all, just an info - there is an important message in your Internet banking inbox, go there and fetch it.
So even the call may be initiated in a way - hello, this is your bank, we need to talk to you immediately because of "reason without details" (e.g. there was a suspicious transaction we want to xcheck with you), please contact our telebanking number to proceed.
The tricky part of this story is that sometimes banks do really call you - it happens to me whenever I do really nonstandard transaction.
Truth to be told I've always seen this as mixed blessing and I have also been "that weird one" who asks the caller for their name and do the callback to the known (read official telebanking) number of the bank...
My colleague once seen that and was like WTF you're doing dude, they're doing you a favour... and my answer was "never trust a caller, just loose one more minute and do the callback to a known and trusted number".

LOL, thank you. Ever since dark mode has been available, I was wondering why the reading pane wasn't dark. Never occurred to me to look for an add-on. Why isn't it available out of the box, though?
@flo Dark Mode in the reading pane still has some quirks! Hopefully we can iron them out and include a dark reading pane built in for a future release. 🤞 😎
@flo One issue I have with dark reader is that it only changes white to dark after a few milliseconds. So every time I open a new tab (in firefox, not sure about thunderbird) I get flashed with a white screen before it returns to dark. I would appreciate a native solution that starts out with a black or dark grey screen before loading anything else.
@skaphle @flo A lot of Team Thunderbird would definitely welcome a native dark mode that did this. We also wish this was a lot easier but we'll keep everyone updated on any progress.
