With a few months having gone by since I last checked, I figured I'd do an update on who's currently using post-quantum cryptography on the web. In brief, about 39% of the top 100K domains now offer X25519MLKEM768 (up from about 28% in March). This is primarily the addition of Amazon Cloudfront (the only service to also offer SecP256r1MLKEM768) and Fastly, since Akamai is still opt-in. But we also note Facebook having started to support #PQC.

Švagrová mi říkala, že používá ChatGPT, že si za to dokonce platí. O víkendu jsem jí pomáhal s novým počítačem a zjistil jsem, že nemá u OpenAI ani účet. Jak si za to tedy můžeš platit?
Ukázalo se, že používá chatbot.app. Prý do App Store zadala "chatgpt" a dostala tady toto. Ikonu to má podobnou...

@bycx Nějaký chatbot nad různými modely. Mrkl jsem zběžně na privacy policy a tedy nic moc, sídlí někde v Turecku... Nejzajímavější na tom bylo, že si švagrová opravdu myslela, že používá ChatGPT.
Dnes už si to neplatí a nemá o to zájem. Chtěla s tím vytvářet materiály na další školní rok (učí na střední zdravce), ale zkušenost prý špatná.

@bycx Podle mě jsme v kulminaci schopností, ke kterým se dostanou běžní lidi. Vytvořili výborné modely, ale jsou příliš drahé na to, aby za ně běžní lidi platili. U modulů pro ně tak podle mě začne fáze enshittifikace. To už jde vidět na GPT-5, které většinu dotazů odbavuje levnými a horšími modely a oproti 4o to je pro hromadu lidí downgrade. Ona s tím pracovala tyto prázdniny. Dívám se, že na chatbot.app je výchozí právě GPT-5, takže zkušenost asi měla s ním.

@bycx Já se musím přiznat, že v poslední době mám zkušenost s ChatGPT spíš povrchní. Jedu téměř výhradně Perplexity, které mi na to vyhledávání a doptávání přijde nejlepší a mám tam Pro přes Revolut zdarma. A občas to doplním Mistralem. V práci pak Gemini a Claude, ale to vyloženě na technické věci.

@michal @bycx ač se to z toho mého komentáře nezdá, tak tomu moc neholduju. Fakticky pravidelně používám jen to Perplexity. Na hledání informací je to fakt dobré a halucinuje to minimálně. V práci mám věci, které dělají s AI, automatizované, na to moc nesahám a že bych měl AI jako asistenta a vrbu, to mě vůbec nebere.

Miałbym na ten moment dwie sugestie odnośnie dostępności Moons: 1. Czy dałoby się ukryć logo aplikacji tak, by VoiceOver go nie fokusował? W aplikacjach to raczej element dekoracyjny i dodaje dodatkowe przystanki podczas nawigacji gestami lewo - prawo. 2. Czy można by złączyć tytuł bieżącego zadania, nazwę projektu oraz biegnący licznik w jeden element dla VO? Opcja "Stop" mogłaby wtedy stać się czynnością na pokrętle, a dwukrotne stuknięcie po prostu otwierałoby zadanie.

@Piciok 1. Zdecydowanie. Żaden problem. 2. Chyba tak. To znaczy na pewno się da, ale muszę potestować, żeby było dobrze.
Dodaję te rzeczy do listy zadań. Jeśli masz dodatkowe uwagi dotyczące moich aplikacji, pisz śmiało. Mam też aplikacje do wydatków, wyznaczania celów oraz dzienniczek nastroju. VoiceOver w nich wymaga usprawnień. Zawsze słucham uwag użytkowników, więc pisz śmiało.

Jeszcze jedna rzecz, która podoba mi się w Timery: praktycznie całą aplikację można obsługiwać za pomocą skrótów: tworzenie projektów i wpisów czasu, uruchamianie liczników itp. W zasadzie nie muszę otwierać aplikacji przez większość czasu. Skróty poprzypisywałem do gestów VoiceOver i szybko mogę zacząć śledzenie aktywności. Jest też aktywność na żywo "live activity" pokazująca aktualnie uruchomiony licznik. Fajne to.

🤯 Instagram is testing new iOS push notifications that include a profile photo. Each time the notification is shown on your screen, it triggers a GET request to fetch that image, letting Meta track every on-screen impression.

The app still misuses push notifications to send detailed device analytics about the device (uptime, battery, volume, locale, timezone, memory, CPU, etc.)

I hope more software developers start to follow your example here. When former macOS or Linux screen reader users opt for Windows for accessibility reasons rather than because they prefer it, we know there's a problem which needs to be solved in other desktop operating systems. I personally choose to run the operating systems that I prefer, even if the accessibility takes more work. I do have Windows around, but it isn't my primary OS.

"Do Universities Investing In Technology Transfer Via Patenting Lose Money?"

This study reaches a conclusion I've believed to be true since seeing how tech transfer offices work. The paper calls for closing tech transfer offices and instead open sourcing all innovations.

ABSTRACT Substantial investments are made in universities patenting new developments to pursue a return. To gauge the impact of the holistic costs of patenting at universities, this study provides a new methodology for quantifying the investment in intellectual property (IP) that includes not only technology transfer staff costs but also direct and opportunity faculty-related costs. It then uses the novel methodology and publicly accessible data on an average American research university case study. The results found all component costs were higher than the IP-related income, with the opportunity cost for writing patents instead of grants being more than 33 times the income realized through IP protection. Overall, the case study university loses over $9 million per year on IP with a negative ROI of -97.6%. Research universities have opportunities to increase research income >10% by ignoring IP. It is clear that Bayh-Dole Act and similar national legislation, is harming university economics. It can be concluded that as generally practiced in the U.S. now, it is not rational to continue to support university technology transfer by patents. Instead, to improve the economic bottom lines of universities, as well as increase the good that research and development does for society, universities can open source all innovations.

Woah! Only now did we discover a great blog post from @wq who discusses the progression from hosting a #Matrix , a #Snikket and a #SimpleX server, to now running a #chatmail relay runtimeterror.dev/self-hosted-…

It's an excellent read, with lots of good advise, including having a public "hello" profile and another unpublished chat profile for private chatting. #deltachat apps have pervasive multi-profile support (and multi-device support) so it's pretty easy to establish such a two-profile setup.

There's two new upgrades in the Bose Quiet Comfort Ultra gen 2 that might be worth it to some: Lossless audio and a 30-hour gbattery with ANC, so a night's sleep or so added.
Lossless audio should mean that when you plug your bose into the USB-C port, they'll continue to work and show as a soundcard. In theory. Oh, and they're saying stronger ANC, until Sound Guys does something on them. (interesting read though: soundguys.com/bose-qc-ultra-2-…)
I forgot the only single advantage Bose comes with on their cans: Adjustable ANC levels. I don't know why neither Sonos nor Sony see this as a competitive advantage they're getting beat on. With Bose, I can make a "relax" profile which puts ANC at 5 or 6, leaving some sound in. Not so with my other ANC cans. ARGH.
