😩 Yesterday was a rough day. I was installing Pandoc with Homebrew on Monterey. It took over an hour just to build GHC, and then my computer completely froze. I had to shut it down manually. Do I know anyone who's ever tried to capture an ARM-based #apple #Mac using a capture card? I am running into the dreaded #HDCP issues that seem to be common with these and google's failing me for a solution.

Can someone recommend me a screen reader friendly #XMPP Client for iOS? Needs to also handle outgoing and incoming calls and the ones I've tried, Snikket, Monal, Siskin IM, all have uniquely different accessibility issues so I need to keep all 3 of them because one is better in only one area the other 2 aren't. I have a JMP number, and would eventually like to move everybody to that number instead of my Google Voice number but I like sending text messages via my email client, and I like the ability of calling people from my desktop, and absolutely none of desktop #XMPP clients for Windows are screen reader accessible except for Miranda IM. I tried to get MicroSip to work on JMP for phone calls and nothing! Miranda NG is accessible but can't call out/dial cell phones. #JMP #Apple

Developers, if you're designing a book app, turning the page for VoiceOver users isn't exactly intuitive. When I am reading a book on the Libby app, for example, an eBook, I have to turn a page every time VoiceOver makes it to the end of the page when I am having it read all. I'd love it if the app would just automatically go to the next page but this is super hard in app development for some reason. Even the Bookshare app is like this. Why? Even when I am reading via Braille display I don't wanna stop to turn a page. It's a digital file. It isn't a print book. If Apple complies with this, the UK government will gain access to all iCloud data globally. The only way Apple comes out of this with any integrity is to leave the UK market. If they give in to this, every regime in the world will demand the same thing. And that’s before we even get to the fact that there’s no such thing as a “backdoor” for just so-and-so. Either there is a door or there isn’t and if there is, anyone who obtains the key can use it.

You remember #Apple scanning all images on your #mobile device?

If you have an #Android #phone, a new app that doesn't appear in your menu has been automatically and silently installed (or soon will be) by #Google. It is called #AndroidSystemSafetyCore and does exactly the same - scan all images on your device as well as all incoming ones (via messaging). The new spin is that it does so "to protect your #privacy".

You can uninstall this app safely via System -> Apps.

This is wild. In the updated Mac User Guide when you click on "learn more" in the Apple Intelligence area of the Settings it says:
