If anyone uses Android with TalkBack and the onscreen Braille keyboard, please try to reproduce and report this issue:
In Talkback, if onscreen keyboard echo is set to words, and a word with punctuation after it is typed, TalkBack does not read the word when Space is typed. Similarly, if an emoticon is typed, like ":)" nothing is spoken when Space is typed.
Steps to reproduce:
• Turn on TalkBack, and open TalkBack settings by tapping once with three fingers. Set up the TalkBack Braille keyboard under the Braille section. • Go to Verbosity settings, then the keyboard echo option for onscreen keyboards, and set it to "words." Now, open a text box, turn on the TalkBack Braille Keyboard, and type something like "this is a test." Note the period after test. Then, swipe right with one finger to enter a space.
Expected results:
TalkBack should read "this" "is" "a" "test period."
Actual results:
TalkBack reads "this" "is" "a" and is silent after test is written.
I also put it up on Google's issue tracker if anyone wants to start it.

Digital fingerprinting has been around for a while, did google not use it? Or did it not allow others to have access to their data collected this way?
Fingerprinting.. some types can be easily circumvented, others are more painful. But yeah, librewolf + ublockorigin is decent. Chameleon is an extension specifically for spoofing your browser and OS info, it can add delay to key presses so keypress data becomes useless, etc. But having too many extensions also makes you stand out, so that has to be balanced.
1. Use non-chromium browser and block 3rd party scripts & frames + google domains via ublock origin (enable some of it back for a specific site if it gets too broken); 2. Do not use gmail, google search, google drive or any other of their services; 3. Watch youtube videos from alternative front-end solutions (like piped, vanced, grayjay, invidious, etc - until they get blocked); 4. Use de-googled smartphones with f-droid store (or at least with microg + aurora store); etc. #fightback
Why does your link automatically send me to the Spanish version? I don't like to read IT stuff in other language than English.... And I cannot see the English version no matter what I do.
I wonder if digital fingerprinting could be thwarted with a browser that picks a bunch of the parameters that trackers use to identify people, and then lies about them randomly.

Not that I doubted the post or other users’ comments but I was curious if my current browser is doing similar things like FF or librewolf and what Erklarbar said about fingerprinting was echoed by the vivaldi team some years ago. Although it’s recognized as a chrome browser, that info coupled with the os, language, and time zone (not to mention a number of customizations I’ve made to the ui) I’m definitely easily identifiable 😰☠️

Plus from the replies I've had, it may not be a legal grey area at all, at least under EU law. Question is, what happens if EU prosecutors take a case against companies owned by US oligarchs friendly with the regime? Trade war?

@TritTriton It’s a sad reminder that Oracle really screws up everything it touches. Did they donate the IP and code to the original fork made up of a lot of OOo developers? No, they gave it to Apache that literally did the equivalent of “uhhhhh… thanks?” and didn’t really want it.
@zilti @TritTriton Yep. Honestly, I would just love to see the project officially ended at this point so it can end with some dignity. I don’t know why Apache keeps dragging it along. Just take it out back and put it out of its misery.

Wow, I shouldn't have to dig up old emails from 2004/2005 to prove I was a member of the project. I just lost all respect I had for the Apache Software Foundation as a whole. And when people complain about "open source being bad," well, Exhibit A right there. I have much more respect for The Document Foundation and LibreOffice now. You guys are awesome.

Wow, for CVE-2021-33035 beyond just the difference in time when it was fixed, the differing commit messages and implementations speak volumes to the overall code quality and amount of care being put in.

For some reason people still seem to remember the open office name as an alternative to MS Office, and then download and install it. I had to direct a few people to use libre office instead.

Finally, I have managed to make an hybrid ISO live image of GNOME OS that uses the same UKI and /usr partition as the main image. That is without using dracut. So now we will be able to test GNOME OS on Boxes without going through the installation.

@bojidar_bg it's the total number of added lines compared to how many lines are still present. We have added 3.5 times the amount that exists now. It thus means we have changed every line 3.5 times on average
#XMPP enthusiasts out there: what would you say the ultimate Achilles heel of the XMPP ecosystem is, at present? Fragmentation of clients? What?
My sense is that it's this: when one goes to store an XMPP address in one's addressbook, there doesn't seem to be standard way to store an XMPP address. #Android doesn't have that as an allowable field, and #Thunderbird and #Nextcloud have an "Instant Messaging" field, where the type can be set to "XMPP". But are these two compatible with each other when trying to sync between them? Edit: Yes, but there's a catch: *the XMPP address must be prefixed with "xmpp:"*
So "user@foo.bar" is not an OK XMPP address, but "xmpp:user@foo.bar" is.
Then to make matters worse, now there's a wish to change the labeling of "XMPP Address" to "Chat ID": gultsch.social/@daniel/1140129…
It might be a long time before the address synchy-ness ever works again between Android <-> #Davx5 <-> Nextcloud <->Thunderbird
Note: Android allows a "Jabber" type for an IM address, where you *don't* prefix the address with "xmpp:".

The address book field is a non-problem for most users IMHO. If you have a single XMPP account, your roster effectively act as your XMPP addressbook and non-tech savvy users do not look further.

I wonder who might be willing to fund an overhaul of Java accessibility on Windows, particularly for frameworks that run on top of AWT like Swing and the desktop version of Jetpack Compose. The old Java Access Bridge for Windows was necessary back when there was nothing but Microsoft Active Accessibility (MSAA). But today, Java should implement UI Automation.
It's too far back in my timeline, but I just installed blip, a free file transferring application on Windows. It works on other platforms too. The link I used was on a blog post where they discussed how it worked with Voiceover on the Mac. On windows? 100 percent inaccessible. I can't navigate anything at all. I pushed enter and it took me to a license agreement page. That's all I can get it to do. What a blah. I imagine it works fine on Android. How is there anything on Windows that is just 0 navigation at all. I can't move the navigator object in NVDA or anything. Absolutely nothing, like it's a video game. That's pretty rare to find something that bad.
If I were to take on this project, I would probably use my own AccessKit (accesskit.dev/) as a basis for a new Java-to-native accessibility bridge, at least on Windows. That would save the effort of doing a new ground-up UI Automation implementation. Then we could see how AccessKit compares to the existing Java accessibility implementations on macOS and Linux. Judging by the post I just linked, Java accessibility seems to be in better shape on macOS than on Windows.
@pvagner Linux does not seem in a good state either. On Archlinux, I was not able to make say, Ghidra talk, even that the java ATK bridge was installed and seemingly even configured to be loaded.

It's a Java app, apparently using the desktop version of the Jetpack Compose UI framework. On Windows it uses the Java Access Bridge, which NVDA supports automatically. But something is preventing focus events from getting to NVDA. Blip is packaged with a tool called Conveyor, which uses the MSIX Windows app packaging technology which, when applied to desktop apps, adds some partial sandboxing; I wonder if that's screwing with the Java Access Bridge. I'll contact Blip about it.

Can java jetpack compose apps run on linux too and how much accessible they are? I imagine java atk wrapper feels somewhat rough from my users point of view.
On an unrelated note is there a filesharing app that allows me to publish my directory listing and my peers will choose what they would like to download? I'd prefer a P2P apps similar how DC++ or IRC file servers operated back in the days.
