one of my real pain points with the iPhone is composing emails using the built-in mail app with #voiceover. It’s got slightly better with iOS 18, but the Misspelt Words option in the rotor still does not work. This might not be an issue for some, but for me I cannot send emails on the phone with confidence that it is written accurately and looks professional. I know there's the option of writing it in the Notes app, reviewing it and then pasting it into Mail, but come on! That's such a clunky workaround.

Is Mail any better on the iPad at all? I would quite like something that is an in between device to a laptop and a phone that I could use to quickly write emails, make additions to documents, write quick notes etc, and in that sense the iPad could be a nice fit, but if iPadOS has the same issues as the iOS versions then meh, it might not add much for me. Any thoughts?

My plea to all iOS apps developers for 2024: for the love of everything that is humane, use Apple's native photo picker. Was trying to get started with a couple of apps that require a photo upload and all VoiceOver kept saying was "Thumbnail, button" "Image, button" "Photo, button". Only yesterday I figured it is possible to get the native experience when uploading a screenshot for a technical support representative to see. Here's the disappointingly inaccessible AirPods 4 reset procedure from #Apple:

1. Open the lid of your charging case.
2. Double-tap the front of the case while the status light is on.
3. Double-tap again when the status light flashes white.
4. Double-tap a third time when the status light flashes faster. When the status light flashes amber then flashes white, you can reconnect your AirPods.

Playing around with the new iOS 18 features and I thought the new command mode of Braille Screen Input will make me the ultimate forms wizard, just opening the BSI, filling one field in, switching to commands and over to the next field. It sort of works with the dots 1 and 4 navigating to the previous and next item but it also goes over every single label, anything that is not a form field etc. Tried the same by setting the rotor to form controls but as soon as an edit field is found the editing commands jump in and I can only navigate by characters, words and lines. What would actually help is a gesture simulating the pressing of tab to jump to the next interactive element. Rant, and voice, over. #Accessibility #Blind #Apple #iOS

For me, the best thing about the #WatchOS11 update is that you can finally change the sounds for certain alert types, and when you change the sound, it changes the haptic as well. This means that I can finally tell the difference between text/iMessages and emails without having to use VoiceOver to check. Such a simple thing, but long overdue in my opinion!

After reading about the recent #Apple event in numerous outlets, I can unequivocally say that I absolutely do not want anything announced this year. Apples Tech consumerism hasn’t worked on me for a long time, but I think, what I am going to do, is just get a new battery for this latest SE that I have, new screen protector, a new case, and I will be good to go for years. As for headphones, I’ve got wonderful pairs of Bluetooth headphones that work with the current iPhone so I don’t need or want the new AirPods. In short, there is no necessary need for me to upgrade and my hardware is in actually pretty good condition. No scratches, no scrapes, so there’s just no need to upgrade anything I have.

Apple gave us a great, #accessible graphing calculator on #iOS and #iPadOS in the form of math notes. Given, for example a quadratic function: y=2x^2 +x +1 it generates a graph which sounds like this. While such simple quadratic equations can be used only in schools I see huge potential in making math more accessible to the #blind. As a math nerd and someone who almost failed a year at school due to accessibility, I am really happy and grateful to #apple for making this accessible to us.
