“ #Facebook and #Instagram owner Meta Platforms has indicated it won’t be signing on to the European Union’s voluntary ✨ #AI Code of Practice, which includes restrictions on how AI companies can collect #Copyrighted content.”

It's really important in all our discussions to separate :

a) #AI as a technology/science (which is very positively exciting in the amount of ways it could help us) from

b) the *implementation* of AI to the general public (all these VC startup-style companies driven by naked greed racing to shoe-horn it into everything without care for preferences, taste or consequences)

Jako dalsi silny bod, proc podobne AI generatory jsou krasna, ale slepa ulicka vyvoje landing pagi (mimo jine) jsem objevil oznameni noveho webu hipsterske kavarny kamenice66.cz .

Kde tvorba obsahu trvala temer mesic. V pomeru obsah:IT se tak dostaneme klidne na 30:1. Jestli ten jeden dilek doda AI nebo to borec/borka nakodi/nawebflowuje/nawordpressuje, uz nedela tak velky rozdil.

"If they keep their promises, by the end of 2025, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Google and Tesla will have spent over $560 billion in capital expenditures on #AI in the last two years, all to make around $35 billion."

Just imagine if all that money were invested in making their businesses carbon neutral.

People: 'I hate AI!'
Also people: 'Image with no description'
Know what that means? one of two things in my case.
1. I ignore your post.
Or
2... I use #AI to check out your post. How'bout that?

Can we get a t-shirt that says 'Always add #AltText'

My background is in #AI and ML, even though I’m not working on it directly now.

One of the reasons is that I’m utterly disgusted by the kind of people who have taken over this field.

These are the same kind of sociopath cynical anarcho-capitalist cryptobros who screwed up the few good ideas about Blockchain and transformed it into just another speculative financial instrument.

And you know why I hate them from the bottom of my heart, why I believe that they have negative added value for society?

Because the previous generations of computer engineers, those who gave us the digital computer, modern operating systems and the Internet, would NEVER get a boner thinking of how many jobs they would have replaced. They didn’t repeat all the times “this will make all office clerks redundant so I can keep all the money for myself, it’s so beautiful!”

No, their focus was just on building things that improved society.

Not on creating chatbots that consumed as much energy as a country, and dreaming about how long it’d take them to kick people out of jobs and screw their lives.

And they don’t even bother to think how to prepare anybody for the transition, or how to build a sustainable post-employment world.

No, the only mission of these filthy motherfuckers is to make them and their shareholders disgustingly rich. Millions losing their jobs in the process is just a small collateral effect in the way of their wealth.

These are parasites screwing up one great idea after another just because they need a next-big-thing wagon to jump on and get rich. They are literally reversed Midas who turn whatever they touch into shit.

This kind of people would belong to a psychiatric facility in a functioning society, but unfortunately in today’s ultracapitalist world they are seen as technological gods - and even inspire new generations of tech enthusiasts to be jerks.

Na LinkedInu probehla challenge, kde CEO AI generatoru webovych stranek Macaly predelal s jejich AI weby komentujicich.

Krasne to reflektuje stav soucasne GenAI.

I watched someone "vibe code" for an hour and now I think "slot machine coding" is a more appropriate name. "Let us pull the lever again and see if the code gets better with this prompt."

OMG, I just came across a podcast called Flesh and Code about people having relationships with LLMs on platforms like Replika. R/Replika has over 80K members! It’s both sad and wild. Maybe because I’ve been playing with dumb LLMs since GPT-2 and understand how they work better than average people, LLMS never really worked for me. lol Since Grok on X now has a porn companionship feature that anyone 12+ can access, I guess things can get worse from here. #LLM #ML #AI reddit.com/r/replika/

Remember, folks: you need to treat #AI like a user when dealing with its output. That means sanitize it, escape it, and so-on. Anyway, apparently a tool I'm using will just render AI generated HTML, and now I have an entire hallucinated user interface reconstructed from the screenshot I was asking about, rather than an answer to the question I was asking. I especially appreciate the unchecked checkbox it labeled "checked checkbox". What new kind of dark pattern is "checked checkbox unchecked"?

I'm trying to find ways in which #AI can help me with my work flows and the most common answer so far is:

"For this particular task, a large language model (LLM) such as Gemini is not the most efficient or reliable choice."

At least, it's being honest with me!

Please boost for reach among the blind community. Okay y'all, is it just me, or are the Meta RayBan glasses descriptions, even with detailed responses on in accessibility settings, still not very accurate? I mean it feels like they're using Llama 3.1 8B, a small model. Am I going more crazy than I already am? Am I missing some context engineering tricks? Like I don't get it. It said my coffee maker's filter basket was empty when it wasn't, said a cup of coffee was empty when it was about half full, then said the coffee cup was folded when I asked it it was full again, cause speech recognition still sucks I guess and AI can't work around that, and said a washing machine was beside the bathroom counter when it was behind me, across from the counter. Like this isn't me playing a video game, this is normal household stuff.

#AI is a tool. I had a log message as a huge JSON string mangled in one line with no spaces. I wanted to quickly skim through it with my screen reader line by line (because if going by word, screen reader stops at punctuation which is desirable in most cases, but not in this one, plus it's still super inconvenient). I told #GitHub #Copilot to pretty-print the JSON and convert timestamps into UTC dates. Three seconds of time, huge boost for me.

We are in an era of many known and unknown challenges and opportunities.

Could #AI help us tell stories not of conquest or prediction—but of care, of uncertainty, of living well together in the unknown?

Could it help guide us to a #SolarPunk future where people can work with our planet?

What would it mean to build #AI as a commons, held in trust, accountable to communities—not owned, but stewarded?

Where do we see initiatives like #PublicAI fitting into this? openfuture.eu/our-work/ai-and-…

What more could we imagine together?

Could we design systems, possibly using #AI, that help people hear each other more deeply, rather than shout more loudly? Could AI reveal patterns of harm and help communities heal?

Why aren't #governments using #OpenSource tools like pol.is to find places of agreement?

#SolarPunk

The program you DON'T WANT TO INSTALL!

Share and educate people!

So the company can use your data and behavior and to lock you in to their statistical parrot (AI)

AI is bad compression. Every time you run training material through it, you get a lossy summary of that material back, along with some noise.

You quickly run out of *quality* training material and start dog-fooding the output back in. Then you end up with lossy summaries of lossy summaries, and eventually all your pizza sauce recipes are dog food.

I wish that most AI picture describers weren't so damn censored. I've found a limit even with Be my AI's describer, and it sucks, because we as blind people should be able to get *any* picture described and no less. I don't care if its a picture of a brutal crime sceen, it should not be censored in any way and the fact that it is is simply wrong, sighted people don't have censorship when they view with their eyes, why should we as blind people not be treated the same? #Blind, #AI, #Accessibility

I love how smart these AI technologies are. They understand that "bigger" for cities can be ambiguous, refer to either the population or the area. It's also great that it's showing the sources in the upper corner, and displaying the basic facts.

Small minus on consistency and correctness, but other than that, really a great answer.

Fun with #AI:
I have a spreadsheet containing assignees, with various values on each line. I needed to calculate the sum of certain values for one assignee. This would normally be a simple query in #LibreOffice, but let's try using AI instead. I uploaded the spreadsheet to #GoogleSheets and entered a simple prompt in #Gemini: 'Give me the sum of XY values for assignee "name"' No result.
So I tried a more algorithmic prompt: 'Go through each line, and if the value in column XX is "name", count the value in column XY to the sum, and give me the total sum for all lines'.
The result? 150.
That's nice, but the simple query in LibreOffice gave me 27, which was the correct answer.

No matter how much I try, Gemini is completely useless in Google Sheets.

Another one of my posts. This one on the topic of AI tools as assistive technology, what's working, what isn't and why, all without the hype that too many people tend to lean into when discussing this technology:

Pretty sure all these #AI guys have utterly misconstrued what art is. They think it's just information/data, but it's not: it's a process; it's a manifestation of interwoven conscious & unconscious thoughts that have ripened in a human mind, sometimes for decades. And the result is an interaction with another human mind, a dialogue. 1/3

That feeling when I write documentation for something, then find the documentation I forgot I wrote for the same thing two years ago, and the wording and structure are almost identical. Right down to the same silly jokes. Then while editing I noticed a mistake I made in this version, and the exact same mistake was in what I wrote two years ago. Am I just an #llm that's made out of meat? Never mind anyone else: will I even realize when I replace myself with an #AI? Maybe it's already happened...

To whomever praises #Claude #LLM:

ClaudeBot has made 20k requests to bugs.gentoo.org today. 15k of them were repeatedly fetching robots.txt. That surely is a sign of great code quality.
