A long two days of coding, but I've finally got a good method of sending #Grafana and #Cloudflare alerts to #XMPP set up: github.com/deuill/webhook-gate…

A number of similar projects exist, but none that could set up multiple pipelines/gateways. Hopefully this is useful to someone; blog-post covering the setup here, including deployment on the Google Cloud Run free tier, is coming soon!

I've noticed that, for me and my wife at least, #Signal isn't always reliable for time sensitive messages. Even after exempting it from the Android power saving and everything it's almost like it goes to sleep sometimes and notifications don't pop until we open it up. The #XMPP app Conversations.im however is very reliable. Running a packet capture on my phone shows that when switching networks #Conversations immediately reconnects, but Signal doesn't, sometimes for several minutes.

I appreciate the intent of this post, but the research is... outdated at best.

Some updates on my #Libervia work:

- Kicked off #email #gateway project (nlnet.nl/project/EmailXMPPgate…) using IMAP/STMP. Basic gateway should be coming soon.
- Preparing next major release: web frontend design & internal improvements in progress. The release will be *huge*.
- Started new desktop frontend; more details to follow.
- Aiming to resume blogging and weekly videos this week, if time allows.
- Targeting a Libervia-based service by the end of the year.

During the Berlin XMPP sprint, some XMPP developers worked on message formatting. Previously, formatting was done using simple markup (e.g. *bold*), which sometimes leads to unintended formatting and is limited in functionality. We now decided to transmit formatting information outside of the normal text, with optional fallback to markup for legacy clients. We worked on improving the specification and on support in three different clients, including @dino.
