As it has been a while and I could have done this better last time here’s my #introduction. I’m a #blind #parent, #braille user, and #musician. I have been blind for 5 years, learned braille over the last 3 years, and spend most of my time juggling being a stay at home dad, and staff for #OurBlind, mainly on our Discord and the r/blind subreddit. Woohoo! It's a pity I haven't tried the #tuba #fedi client built with #gnome technologies earlier. It's verry accessible with a #screenreader. I am running it on the desktop using the keyboard to navigate.
The last time I made a video about #Ableton, it was to do with Note, their iOS music-making app. This video is an Ableton-first, in which I bring you their newest piece of hardware, #AbletonMove. It ships with a web-based screen-reader and I've been enjoying it for many months. It uses sounds from Note, but in a hardware form. 32 poly-aftertouch pads, four tracks of midi (or samples,) 8 knobs, USB-C for power and controlling Ableton Live and a USB-A port for connecting class-compliant midi devices, should you wish to trigger it from a keyboard.
Please be advised that screen-reader support is currently an experimental feature and is not fully fleshed out. Not all aspects of the experience are as desired and there are a few kinks, but it is very much better than nothing whatsoever, and I am extremely thankful to the team that made this possible.
Ableton themselves are not talking about this screen-reader function in any of their literature, but I think it's important enough that it deserves recognition, and to bring an accessible groove-box to blind people in this way.
Even though I know #HTML inside out and use it virtually every day, I'm still reading #HTMLForPeople by @bw because it's a prime example of how a good guide should be written.
1. The book is simple and easy to follow, with relevant points explained well enough even for non-coders to understand. 2. Images are clearly described for #blind readers through the use of #AltText. 3. The website is easy to navigate with a #ScreenReader. 4. There are no annoying pop-ups or ads on the website. 5. The book is entirely free of charge.

This is a patch release to fix a bug with the automatic add-on update notification. When automatically checking for add-on updates, NVDA no longer freezes on poor connections.
Okay just, like right off the cuff here. But why does Vispero, a company making blindness software/hardware want videos for there Big Thing thing? Why not just text? Emails? Like, what? Why? Meh, whatever. I'll submit mine I guess. I'm sure some of you know what I'm gonna suggest. Feel free to submit your own ideas, goodness knows we need more grand ideas for screen readers.

This is the longest of longshots but... people here seems to know everything about the most obscure stuff. Does anyone know of an #NVDA remote client for Linux? There is one for Android, sort of one for iOS, but I have yet to see one for Linux. I'm thinking it may not be difficult, and would definitely be nice to have. Hello #accessibility experts and #screenReader users. I am trying to find out a wordpress addon that might provide self-hostable and screen reader accessible reservation system. The features I am looking for is ability to integrate this with google calendar or any other caldav based self-hostable calendaring solution. Email notifications for both visitors and administrators is a plus. I need this to be accessible to both visitors as well as administrators. Also recently I think I have seen a mention of croutfunding campaign where the aim is to build open-source accessible booking system. I'd be happy to look at it too if you can remind me of it.

so, here's an interesting question that I'd love some input on.
right now, the static site generator I use (getzola.org) has an optional "line numbers" mode for code blocks which is meant to display line numbers alongside a section of code. right now, this switches from outputting the code as a raw block of text to a table, where the line numbers are on the left and the lines are on the right.
my gut feeling is that the correct way to do this is to not use a table, and just find some other way of styling the code so that each line is prefixed with a number, and maybe you can toggle that on and off. but I don't actually know if this would be better for screen reader users or worse.
and this also occurred to me: I don't actually have any idea what the most common ways screen reader users interact with line numbers are. I personally would prefer to avoid adding extra javascript to this, so, that sets aside the option to do things like custom key combinations for revealing the line number, although I could do those instead and have some kind of fallback. although this wouldn't work nearly as well for mobile viewers, since that has much more limited support for key combinations. (maybe long press for line number?)
like, would it be obnoxious to just say the line number before every line, as if they were formatted as text? would it be helpful? I genuinely don't know since I don't develop this way, and would love to know what people think is best. this is a case where simply testing it out with a screen reader isn't enough: I know what the result would sound like, but I don't know if that's the result people would like to hear.
and it is worth saying, all of these options should ensure that you can just copy-paste the code into whatever editor you want and read it there. this is pretty doable with a table or any other method, and I'm not super worried about that aspect. mostly just what people who are browsing the site on their device would like as far as navigation goes.
