Question to the people experienced with Screen readers: I'm currently writing a documentation where I insert lots of inline Screenshots, for example a little red cross. What would be the preferred way of writing Alt-Text for them? Usually I describe Images in a clear sentence, but I assume for inline screenshots it would make more sense to use a Single Word if possible.

We are pleased to announce we have rolled out a new, more intuitive issue template for reporting bugs or requesting features in NVDA. The form is still on GitHub & still requires the same information as previously, but now uses individual fields rather than one long edit box with comments. You can explore here (Note it IS live so if you submit an issue, it will be submitted as an actual issue): github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issue…

I've been an email hosting customer with #MythicBeasts (@beasts) for just under a day and a half, and I'm honestly very impressed. I opted for their email only plan since I already have webspace somewhere else. The main website and control pannel UI are very accessible to #blind #ScreenReader users like myself, with sections clearly structured with headings, pretty much no unlabelled links, buttons or other elements, and no annoying ads, pop-ups or anything else that could hijack a screen reader or lag a browser to pieces. I contacted them about an issue I'm having yesterday and the initial reply, *human* reply that is, took just over 10 minutes. The issue is still ongoing as of now, but I'm confident that it will be fixed soon; I did contact them at the backside of the working day after all. Not bad at all for the monthly price of just under a fiver! Also, bonus points for being a 2000s ISP, having started in the year 2000.

At NV Access we are always interested in understanding the satisfaction of our NVDA users.

Here's a quick demo on how to enable TTS on the Nintendo Switch 2 from the home screen. Hopefully these menus are the same across all devices, though I have no way to know that for certain.

Edit: For other blind Switch/Switch 2 owners, I started a WhatsApp group to discuss the accessibility of the console and it's games. DM if you'd like to join.

Amiyah is a new PC user who really likes NVDA Remote Access! "It helps when I don’t know how to download stuff on my computer. or when I’m stuck on something, my friends can connect and help me out. I like that it’s free and also it helps other blind people so once again thank you.”

Thank you Amiyah! Have you tried NVDA Remote Access yet? It's new in NVDA 2025.1! nvaccess.org/post/nvda-2025-1-…

I love this so much. It's pretty much a GUI for #tampermonkey, offering an easier way for #blind folks to find elements on a webpage and do things to them. Yes, you could do the same things directly by just writing JavaScript yourself. But this is much, much faster, and requires a bit less knowledge. It took me less than 30 seconds to turn all the story titles on fanfiction.net into headings. Labeling a button, or making other small changes would be just as fast. The typos and slightly incorrect English put me off at first; especially the word "blinds" for blind people felt weird and derogatory. apparently the author is from #Cameroon, though, so maybe that's standard there. stsolution2.org/WebAccessibilizer/#a11y#accessibility#screenreader

NVDA 2025.1.2 has been released: nvaccess.org/post/nvda-2025-1-…

This release fixes a crash when opening certain Microsoft Word versions before version 16.0.18226.

Also, a reminder that if you have downgraded from 2025.x to earlier versions, your profile may become corrupted. This can cause your profile to be reset to factory defaults when you update again, but NVDA should work correctly after that.

Steam just added screen reader support in the latest Big Picture Mode beta. On the Deck. On SteamOS. On Linux.
Not hacked in. Not community-patched. Built-in. From Valve.
There's an accessibility tab. There's a screen reader. There's high-contrast mode, UI scaling, color filters, reduced motion, and more.
I can’t believe I’m saying this but: I need a Steam Deck now.
Accessibility isn’t just coming to gaming — it’s here, and it’s official.
Let’s make some noise so they keep going.
