I won a contest @libreoffice held, and I got all this KILLER LibreOffice swag from them.

I've used LibreOffice for so many years, from back in the mid 2000s when it was OpenOffice. It's better than Microsoft Office. It's totally free and open source, and you don't have to be logged in like you do now with Office.

Try it out if you haven't, you won't regret it.

Some great reasons to use LibreOffice instead of Microsoft 365

- It's Free
- It Works With Microsoft Office Files
- It Has Lots of Features
- It Is Cross-Platform
- It Keeps My Information Private
- You Can Sync Files With LibreOffice if You Want To

I personally have been using it for years, I love it. This article does a great job of outlining some of the reasons why.

What will the Foundation do to protect projects at the heart of Matrix? How do we determine what those “core” projects are? And are there any projects that don’t belong at the Foundation?

We're beginning the process of defining a new governance framework for Foundation projects, in collaboration with the Governing Board and the rest of the ecosystem. matrix.org/blog/2024/08/heart-…

I've proposed a merge request to GNOME's likely new Video Player app codenamed Showtime. The feature? Toggling between video duration and time remaining by clicking the end timestamp. :)

It's the little things!

I think this might be my first contribution to a GNOME Python app. It was a bit of a trip coming from Vala and JavaScript land, but I _think_ I did okay for a first pass.

Last month @linuxflower and @ryanleesipes went to GUADEC, the yearly @gnome conference! Heather has a fantastic write-up of their experience at the event, which includes Ryan's inspiring, insightful keynote (seriously, watch it if you haven't already) and some conversations about calendars, flatpaks, and (controversy alert!) telemetry.

I heard a discussion at #FOSSY24 regarding "FOSS outside of corporations," referring to the origin of the Free and #OpenSource software movement, beginning with hobbyists and foundations.

Thought I would also include the early contributions to FOSS from and through #HIgherEducation. Many foundational projects have their roots in #HigherEd.
