I've just pushed Tor integration in Libervia (first step of the NLnet metadata reduction and serverless grant).

I've officially finished the email<=>XMPP gateway grant 🎉. Lot of stuff done. The gateway is working but there are still things to do, notably finishing the e2ee encryption which is complex.
I'll most probably blog about it (and the previous A/V one) next week.

I can now turn what began as a quick project made in a providential three weeks of free time into an app that can...actually do basic things like add contacts 😅
More importantly, it'll make the open and standardised messaging protocol available to a mobile platform where few large players have dared to tread 👟

I'm making big progress on the #tauri version of #deltachat_desktop
So far it only takes 38 mb 📦 (78mb installed) in package size instead of the 150mb 📦(323mb installed) of the Delta Chat Desktop #electron version.

For now this "#deltachat_web" project is merely meant as proof that the deltachat desktop frontend/UI has no dependency on electron anymore.
With a few nice side-benefits:
It allows us developers to use other browsers dev tools to improve #accessibility for example and to bring back automated ui #testing.
Last but not least this serves as a stepping stone to make a #tauri version of #deltachat_desktop
Stay tuned for the #nlnet funded #delta_tauri project.
Some updates on my #Libervia work:
- Kicked off #email #gateway project (nlnet.nl/project/EmailXMPPgate…) using IMAP/STMP. Basic gateway should be coming soon.
- Preparing next major release: web frontend design & internal improvements in progress. The release will be *huge*.
- Started new desktop frontend; more details to follow.
- Aiming to resume blogging and weekly videos this week, if time allows.
- Targeting a Libervia-based service by the end of the year.

We are pleased to announce that we got selected in another funding round by the EU’s NGI via the @NLnet Foundation @NGI0 Entrust Fund to work on some important features in Monal: nlnet.nl/project/Monal-IM-UI/
In short this consists of the following tasks (in no special order):
Implement Dialpad, Rewrite Chat UI, Implement Message Reactions, Rich Replies and Stickers, XSF work and a documentation of Monal's internals

If you got a grant from #nlnet they can transfer the divided money to the people directly.
In any case I think finding a fair sharing/splitting model of the money is the more important part.
Open Collective seems nice to work with. SPI is rather bureaucratic I heard, so processes might take their time.

Happy to announce that I've got an extension on my current #NLnet A/V grant for #Libervia to work on S.F.U. (Selective Forwarding Unit), it's a service needed for large A/V conference rooms, à la #Jitsi.
However, the delay is really short (hard deadline in August), so lot of work planned in coming weeks.
It will be based on #Galène and parts will be available for whole #XMPP ecosystem.

We have just issued the first #release of #sshd-openpgp-auth and #ssh-openpgp-auth.
Using this server and client-side tooling it is possible to manage the #authentication of #SSH host keys with the help of an #OpenPGP certificate as trust anchor.

I'm delighted to announce that #Libervia has received a new grant from #NLnet #NGI0 to develop an #email <=> #XMPP gateway.
This project will not only convert normal messages but also transform mailing lists into #pubsub based forums. It includes UI/UX enhancements on Libervia, end-to-end encryption, and advanced handling of attachments.

I've just pushed A/V call commands to the #CLI frontend of #Libervia. I believe that it's the only #XMPP CLI to date with calling capabilities (make and receive calls).
This complete #web and #desktop (#Kivy) implementations.
All thanks to #NLnet / #NGI Assure grant (and hard work!).
Still need some stabilisation work, hopefully will be ready for incoming release.

I have tried talking to um about this, my thought is the people picking the projects are a self reflecting #geekproblem so they are unlikely to fund let alone see value outside this narrowness.
It's the mess we look at from outside, likely nice bunch of people as individuals though
Are you serious right now? You do know what Google is, right? You do understand what their business model is? I thought NGI/NLnet was purportedly about finding and supporting *alternatives* to surveillance capitalists like Google, Meta, etc., not trying to improve their PR by perpetuating the myth that they’re generally a force for good who sometimes (often) make silly mistakes.
