So the media player on the sense player is still freezing at least once a week. Mostly happens when you perform anything while listening, moving tracks, playing a new folder, adjusting main volume ETC. I wonder if any programs like chrome or who the hell knows what else have to be running in the background for it to function? I know that sounds crazy but I can't think of anything else. I wish I could down grade the firmware but I never downloaded the last version, if anyone has it, please please let me know.
in reply to aaron

@fireborn Well literally everything else works fine, both first party and third party apps. This started as soon as I updated to newest firmware, even a factory reset didn't fix. Along with the not being able to switch voices in the document reader, obviously they screwed soomething up big time, although not sure if others are having the same issue.

My Dude, if you think that a wife or girlfriend voting for Harris is the same as adultery, you richly deserve that fate, and may she find freedom from you real soon

"Yes, but Jason, if the super-rich left the UK, what would we do without their money?"

Precisely what we *have* been doing without their money, I imagine.

You can keep waiting, or start encrypting! 🔐🎃👻💀

Happy #Halloween everyone!

Put my wallet in my right jeans pocket instead of the usual left jeans pocket for the day. A rollercoaster of emotions. The highs of finding it after that horrible sinking feeling of when you think it's lost. Exhausted now. What a day

Me: What should I be for Halloween?

Hereafter follows a series of siri's answers:

1. I see London, I see France, I see you dressing up as the English channel.

2. Wear yellow and white, put on some little red horns and you can be a deviled egg.

3. Put a radio on your head and dress up as a creep.

4. Put on a duckbill, carry a basketball and a slide rule, and be a technical fowl.

5. If you stayed home, and just chilled with your iPod, I suppose, you'd be a HomePod.

6. You could put on surgeon scrubs, hold some instruments, and tell people you're an operating system.

7. Put a little red microphone icon on your shirt. Then, pretend to talk without making any sound. You're that person on every video call who's stuck on mute.

8. Get a rhinestone jumpsuit, sideburns, tinted glasses and some pointy ears. Tell everyone you're elvish.

9. jump up and down over and over and shake your fist. You can tell everyone you're anti gravity.

10. Just smile and nod. Then you can be your own bobblehead doll.

11. You could be a pirate. I'll be your co-pirate.

12. Just carry around a martini glass filled with some guacamole, go around clinking glasses with everyone, and yell: Ävocado toast!".

13. You could carry around a squirt bottle and say you're a streaming service.

14. Be a ghost. All you need is an old spreadsheet.

15. You could go as an eclipse. Just dress in black and stand in front of things.

Hahaha! I guess I am a home phone. Also we don't celebrate here, maybe that's why I am a phone. Nooo! What a tragedy! One more, be the scariest but cute world map ever. :)

Do you think if Jurassic Park was real they'd give the dinosaurs pumpkins to play with and smash on Halloween, the way zoos and wildlife parks do? Imagine the photo opportunities! 🎃 🦖🦕

I had 4 girls dressed as vampires at the door trick or treating just now.

In unison they said "sick or shit?", or at least that's what it sounded like through their ill fitting plastic teeth.

I gave them plenty of candy, best to not take the risk. If anything, sick or shit is now their parents problem.

[ footnote: the candy was not poisoned, but if you eat that many jelly bats too quickly who knows the outcome ]

the web dev class was rough today, but for reasons mostly out of my control.

Several Chromebooks had build issues with the downloadable Debian VS Code package, so I had to help them add the MS apt repo and install from there.

We had to do some command line work to set git usernames and emails for commits, so that caused friction.

The VS Code git buttons are TINY. I'm sticking with that for now because their editor skills are growing, but it wasn't very clear how to stage files.

in reply to Brian

I also did something STUPID by committing and pushing a change to main (which they all forked) before giving them a chance to open a PR for the first time. Their branches were out of sync, so that added a layer of complexity today.
in reply to Brian

I'm going to work on a muscle-memory protocol for them to develop. Fire up the local copy, fetch any updates, and then get to work.

Commit when a chunk of work is done. Don't push til you're ready to be done for the day. Don't open a PR until you're _totally_ done with the task.

All good things, but it's going to take time.

I just got a message from xfinity suppport. Apparently I'm experiencing a service interruption and they're really really sorry. They're working on it, they say. Sorry to tell them, my service interruption's gonna be a forever thing.

+22C here yesterday along with the wickedest thunderstorm of the year. it's almost November :face_melting:

I've been sick, and thus unable to work on commissions, or general art, or promote myself as much as usual, and weekly bills are now due :(

I had to duck out of an exhibition this week too because of MH (and then getting sick so I'm glad I didn't go).

I had a lot of little prints made for it, so how's this - if you spend £10+ in my Ko-Fi shop on physical items with postage, I'll send you a random small (4x4 or 6x4) print for free. ❤

If an employer ever asks you to resign, tell them "no".

There is no benefit to resigning unless you have another job lined up already.

Make them fire you. Get your unemployment benefits. Make sure you are legally protected in case of malfeasance. Resigning undermines all of that.

This message brought to you by AWS telling workers to return to office 5-days-a-week by commuting or relocating, or they should resign.

Again, the answer is "no, you'll have to fire me."

EDIT: To clarify, in most areas "fired" and "let go" are not legally meaningful terms and can be used interchangeably. The important term is "for cause" or not. So don't commit misconduct to get fired. Poor job performance is typically not a "for cause" reason, nor is failure to accept changes like RTO

I can’t back this up with data *directly* but I have a firm conviction that there are at least 10x as many people like this as there are useful idiots who will vote for Jill Stein or leave the top of the ticket blank because of some esoteric backwards interpretation of Kropotkin. If you want to help in the home stretch then GOTV will be categorically more consequential than yelling at a guy you made up to get mad at (and you probably already know that) historians.social/@philip_card…
in reply to Glyph

You're probably right. But now I can't help but wonder what Kropotkin said that people are misinterpreting.
in reply to Matt Campbell

@matt If you have actually read Kropotkin and you're trying to reverse engineer what an actual person might think, you're overthinking it :)

There *is* an actual kind of stupid person who watches streamers react to video essays where the essayist might cite Kropotkin; this sort of person is likely to be far left, and to care a lot about e.g. Gaza, and maybe even say stuff about how electoralism is bad and " we need revolution". But that's not who I'm talking about…

There's where airPods pro come in quite nicely. Trust me on that one.
in reply to Carlos Blanco

@cublanco Oh, I'm sure. Those are way out of my budget though. Heck, the standard airpods are out of reach.

I had to use Quicktime and screen-record this, because #SeeingAI doesn't allow you to save videos, or not that I could work out at least. Anyway, here's a test with a video Kirsten sent me this morning, in which Alice is driving a car around a track in Disneyland.
in reply to Andre Louis

Wow! That’s so cool. I wonder how it’s doing all of this? with updates it will get even better.

Working on a prototype in PocketPages. It's a bit rough around the edges but rapidly improving, and I'm having a blast.

Feels like the good parts of old school PHP development, with database and schema management built in, the ability to fall back to Go when you need it, real-time support and a Dart SDK for Flutter, plus other community-supported client APIs of course. About the only thing missing for me is switching SQLite out for something like Postgres if your prototype ever grows large enough, but since 90+% of them won't, I'm just not sweating it.

in reply to Nolan Darilek

Does that stack have any kind of support for real-time updates with WebSockets? That's one thing I still like about Phoenix.
in reply to Matt Campbell

If you specifically mean WebSockets, no, it uses SSE. So polling instead, but it does batch everything over one connection at least. pocketbase.io/docs/api-realtim…
