First of all: Thank you for your work!
I use it on Android alongside with other #Matrix Clients.
So far I remember, the onboarding was good. Generelly it feels fast (after) sync.
The chatlist items, for me, could have a little bit more padding. The gui with the bubble style in the Chats I don't like much.
It's nice to have some settings for gui. The accent color could have more options.

Anyone using #Tammy as a #Matrix messenger client?

What do you think about it? Why do you use it? How much do you use it? On which device type is it installed? What features do you miss?

I would not underestimate the value of having a go-to home server free of charge for people new to #matrix. In the end, it is the members of the foundation to decide whether they agree with the use of the budget they contribute. Are you also a member?

Regarding the more general accusation on #Matrix being just another VC-backed one-company-product, I'd like to refer to another recent post from the foundation, and only quote from its final paragraph:

> … triggered some defensive reaction with other European players in the market. It is a shame that small European players feel the need to fight one another rather than collaborate via open source software against the bigger non-European and proprietary players.

The Matrix Foundation now has some volunteer working groups, and a formal process for creating new ones;

matrix.org/foundation/working-…

For example, there's a WG for documenting moderation issues; reducing spam, easier handling of trolls, griefers and grifters.

If you're keen to get involved in keeping the Matrix protocol network fully decentralised, surveillance-free, and non-corporate, this could be a good way.

Been on a #matrix bridge for slack for about a week now and it is working so well that I have removed Slack off my phone. @robin & @andybalaam I find this to be some amazing stuff with Matrix.

@matrix Is there a place the Matrix community can discuss protocol-level issues that isn't GritHub? If not, it really is about time to set one up. Lemmy and PieFed are options for an official threadiverse instance, and both Discourse and NodeBB now have some level of ActivityPub support.

This could even be an opportunity to dogfood adding Matrix protocol support to a forum package.

Woah! Only now did we discover a great blog post from @wq who discusses the progression from hosting a #Matrix , a #Snikket and a #SimpleX server, to now running a #chatmail relay runtimeterror.dev/self-hosted-…

It's an excellent read, with lots of good advise, including having a public "hello" profile and another unpublished chat profile for private chatting. #deltachat apps have pervasive multi-profile support (and multi-device support) so it's pretty easy to establish such a two-profile setup.

Hmm, ja tohle moc nechapu. Co je spatne na Matrix? Jestli se nepletu, tak: i) nekolik otevrenych implementaci serveru, ii) nekolik otevrenych implementaci klientu pro ruzna zarizeni (nb, mobil, web), iii) otevrena specifikace protokolu, iv) protokol je federovany. Jakykoli IM bez tohohle jednoduse nedosahuje kvalit #matrix (v dlouhodobem horizontu, a samozrejme IMO).

Vielen Dank für's Teilen der Slides über eine faire Cloud.
Als Chat-Alternativen könnte man vielleicht aus verschiedenen Gründen stärkeren Fokus auf #Matrix legen als auf Signal.

Well fuck. If a room in #Matrix is on Homeserver A, and an admin on Homeserver B runs /upgraderoom, then the room is moved to Homeserver B. It does not stay on Homeserver A.

I uhh... do not want the unofficial Slackware matrix server on my homeserver.

Edit: omfg sidegrading it does not move it back

EDIT EDIT: FINALLY

Does anyone know why Matrix doesn't notify you when a picture message is received? It's super annoying. :corgi_wtf1: And I say Matrix instead of naming a client because every single client refuses to notify for it so I imagine it's something in the spec.

The past few days I've been building a small tool for checking how many members of a given Matrix room support which maximum room version. The idea has been sparked by room version 12 being released, so that one can assess the adoption rate for the new room version and make an educated decision on when to upgrade rooms.

You can check it out here:

Apparently the latest #Matrix security vulnerability was so major, that the server implementers had to abide to an embargo before receiving details about it. I wonder how many #Matrix -related projects had to decline, due to e.g. their CI not being set up to build code not publicly on the main branch, and had to dash to implement the patch after the embargo was lifted. @The Matrix.org Foundation

If you want to get a sense of what the Matrix network will be like once Matrix 2.0 is fully rolled out, get yourself ElementX, and try it with an account on the matrix.org homeserver. I haven't had a chance to really stress test it yet. But from what I've experienced so far, it's a *huge* improvement on Matrix 1.0.

EDIT 2: ElementX is the Matrix 2.0 version of Element. Despite the fact that it remains significantly incomplete, and may not meet all your needs 🤦‍♂️

We released version 0.12.1 of #nheko! This release includes a few security fixes around html escaping into the UI and properly attaching a mark of the web on Windows. I highly recommend you upgrade!

This release also takes the first steps to room version 12 compatibility regarding the upcoming #matrix security release.

You can find the release here: github.com/Nheko-Reborn/nheko/…
Enjoy! :)

There's been a lot of negativity around #Matrix and #Element recently. And I (somewhat) joined in and expressed my frustration with it every now and then. Something I still appreciate around #Matrix is the fact, that they listen to (most of) the criticism and acknowledge (many of) their problems. There's a nice self-critical video addressing all of this recent criticism: youtube.com/watch?v=OyuqM7RbX5…

@matrix I have a question about Matrix.org's upcoming Free plan. I see it doesn't allow creation of public rooms. I created a public room on matrix.org two years ago. If I go on the Free plan, will I still be able to access and modify my existing room?

Working hard between the Website WG and the T&S R&D WG to get out a room upgrading guide for #matrix - we will see how close we get to finish it in time for next week's room version security update release, but it already has lots of useful info in bullet point form: github.com/matrix-org/matrix.o…
If you have the time to help turn it into nice text (or even pictures?!!), please send patches!

#nextcloud made it possible for me to (self-)host my (and my family's) phone calendars, contacts, and even when pictures are taken, they get uploaded to our Nextcloud instance, and NOT to google/apple.

10/10, would recommend for any household looking to #degoogle.

Others include #searxng, has literally replaced all monolithic search engines, works great, no ads or AI

#mastodon, for my #activitypub based social network

#matrix for chatting with my social network

and also #KDE.

🆕 blog! “I'm never going back to Matrix”

I should love Matrix. It is a decentralised, privacy preserving, multi-platform chat tool. Goodbye Slack and your ridiculous free limits. Adiós Discord and your weird gamification. Suck it IRC with your obscure syntax and faint stench of BO. WhatsApp and Telegram can stick their heads in a bucket of lukewarm sick and sing sea …

What frustrates me the most about #Matrix is that Vector clusterfucked the client situation themselves. Having a de facto default, "go-to" Matrix client with feature parity across all platforms was one of the biggest strengths. Now we have feature split between two official clients. And the one they promote these days is still an unfinished beta. 🤯 It is absolutely mindboggling how you can screw up this bad.

#Element #ElementX

And yet, annoyingly, many #FOSS projects have their communities on #Matrix, instead of #XMPP. I don't get this 🤯. What do Matrix rooms offer that XMPP does not?

#Matrix spent a decade turning the problem of worrying about which extensions your server supports into worrying about which room version your server supports.
Meanwhile, the #XMPP community got their act together, reached a rough consensus on which extensions are worth pursuing, and now you can install any of the four major servers without having to worry about what extensions are working behind the scenes.
