We did it, folks! Matrix has hit a new milestone in its open governance by electing a Governing Board to guide the Foundation and provide more representative and structured input to the evolution of the protocol.
Of course, while seating a Governing Board is a big deal, the hardest work remains ahead of us. I have high hopes for what we will accomplish together! 🚀 matrix.org/blog/2024/06/electi…

I'll gladly join the Month of #LibreOffice 😃. I've been using it for years, both private and for work. And guess what, I'm good even when working with MS-using colleagues.
Even my grandpa uses it happily. It took him years to realise it's not MS Office, because it worked just as well. If he can manage it, anyone can.
So why I love it? It does what it needs to do and does it well, and it's #free and #opensource, and actively developed and improved. What more can you need?
I love using @libreoffice on my LinuxMint and Windows laptop. I use it for calculating projects and costs in #Calc and writing my book in #Writer.
Don't spend it on expensive office software when #Libreoffice is already there for you!

The organizers of @pycon have given community organizers a massive gift 🎁
Let's not squander it!
A *sold out* #PyConUS 2024 proved that even large events can prioritize safety and inclusion for caregivers and immunocompromised people by way of requiring masks, and gathering venue data to calibrate their policy from year-to-year. Smaller events have proven it's possible at that scale, too.
Now is the time for at least one other large event to step up.
Who will it be? 👀

Catima 2.29.1 is out!
This is a small bugfix release, fixing some balance and spend/receiving issues (mostly reduced confusion + workaround for some broken Android keyboard apps that don't correctly listen to the list of allowed symbols).
It also contains various translation updates.
The update is available on #GitHub right now and will most likely be available on #IzzyOnDroid within 24 hours. It has also been sent to Google Play Open Testing for review.
Now we're wondering: might we find among you (or your network) two experienced UX/UI designers who are willing to engage in a 6-month volunteer project? We need to come up with a way to fit a bunch of new functionality into the already busy player screen. We're looking for two people (one for each role) to help us with this.
Interested? More info? Send a DM or email keunes@mailbox.org.
Boosts appreciated!

You know who will never mine your private communications to train an LLM?
Better yet, you know whose words you don't need to trust, because you aren't obligated to use any particular server? And the software is open source? And regularly audited by security researchers?

It's not perfect, but no tool is. It's a matter of what trade offs you're willing to accept. Just sayin' ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
