I noticed the upcoming chatmail ‘relays’ feature in #deltachat. Changing the relay in the app (version 2.33) seems really easy, fantastic!

@delta I was wondering (for a friend) if there will be any publicly available relays published as a *#tor #onion service* as well? In combination with the app’s proxy support this would be awesome for any user’s #privacy.

🚨 World's first social media ban begins: Australian & under‑16? Your social media account is now locked. 🚨

What's next? From Dec 27 #AgeVerification checks for search engines like #Google.

BUT - Once your data is in the system, what's stopping it from being used for surveillance?

And what happened to #Privacy? 🧐

I'm on #GrapheneOS without MicroG or anything Google at all, so I use UnifiedPush to get notifications from #Fedilab, #Element and #ElementX (and something else I've forgotten LOL).

I set up family members with Element using UnifiedPush as, although they have Play Services, I prefer not to give Google (or by extension Trump atm) metadata about who my family talks to and when.

I only wish @nextcloud , @PixelFed , @loops etc. would get on board!

I am in need of people with experience in publishing to the Apple App Store. I need help with AppTrackingTransparency and when it is (not) needed and how to solve conflicts with apple reviewers.

My problem: Apple rejects my app because I didn't implement ATT, despite the fact that I don't track users or give data to third parties for the sake of tracking or advertising. #dev #apple #apps #privacy

Age verification is the new trend to de-anonymize the web. 😡

🚨Starting Dec 10, #YouTube #Australia will ask for your age.

The Big Tech already started rolling out an AI-powered age estimation system. Adults are being marked as minors & are forced to submit IDs before regaining full access to decades-old accounts.

Benjamin Franklin said "Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

The same could be said of privacy and convenience. Seriously people, don't fall for this nonsense.

You might think it's not a priority with all the doom happening around.

But the erosion of privacy rights is directly linked to the erosion of human rights, and the loss of democracy.

Privacy makes it safe for you to discuss, to organize, to resist, and to be your true self. This is exactly why fascists and authoritarians are attacking it.

If we lose privacy, we lose everything else. We have to defend it with all we've got.

Privacy rights are a priority.

I'm a Google Workspace admin, and a team member sent me a screenshot showing that a message they wanted to send was being blocked because it violated an organizational policy-- which was news to me-- I hadn't put in place to block messages based on their content.

Turns out Google Workspace now warns by default when the message content mentions gender identity.

Privacy is ... the problem and surveillance = freedom, according to danish politician Hækkerup and Hummelgaard pushing for mass surveillance of EU citizens through #ChatControl.

Our current minister of justice, Hummelgaard, has aparrently forgotten our constitution, which from 1849 has defined the right to #privacy and secrecy, in written communication.

Oh, but think of the.. (insert whatever excuse fits the current zeitgeist, to further your political agenda; be it foreign enemies, children, enemies from within, illigal emmigrants, etc. It has happened before.)

Makes me sick. And embarased that danes elect people who either didn't read 1984, or didn't understand it.

Them: "Consider what having to comply with the GDPR means for small and mid-sized businesses!"

Me: "Consider what having small and mid-sized businnesses not complying with the GDPR means for all of us!"

I'm so tired of discussing digital privacy primarily from the point of view of companies, as businesses have always done and many politicians are increasingly doing.

We're talking about a human right! Our right! Don't let them frame it any other way!

I feel this needs to be repeated 🍪

The annoyance of cookie banners
doesn't come from the regulations, but from the malicious compliance of the corporations who want to exploit your personal data.

No data-harvesting cookies = No banner.
Simple.

My websites have no cookie banners,
because they don't use any non-essential cookies and don't track visitors.

Yours shouldn't either.

Why do I get the feeling that lately, in so many countries, new regulations are popping up with only one purpose - to erode privacy 🔓? It feels like a bad joke. I can't keep up anymore.

I wish I could fight them all at once, put pressure everywhere 🌍, no matter where I live. But I don't have the time. I'm already drowning in an endless to-do list.

Why couldn't the government set a different deadline? Why are they so determined to push this through? My mind can't wrap around it :blobcatweary: I just hope they come to their senses and never implement it 🙏

🚨 Decrypt data upon request

"Remember when you thought age verification laws couldn't get any worse? Well, lawmakers in Wisconsin, Michigan, and beyond are about to blow you away.

It's unfortunately no longer enough to force websites to check your government-issued ID before you can access certain content, because politicians have now discovered that people are using Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to protect their privacy and bypass these invasive laws. Their solution? Entirely ban the use of VPNs.

Yes, really.

As of this writing, Wisconsin lawmakers are escalating their war on privacy by targeting VPNs in the name of “protecting children” in A.B. 105/S.B. 130. It’s an age verification bill that requires all websites distributing material that could conceivably be deemed “sexual content” to both implement an age verification system and also to block the access of users connected via VPN. The bill seeks to broadly expand the definition of materials that are “harmful to minors” beyond the type of speech that states can prohibit minors from accessing—potentially encompassing things like depictions and discussions of human anatomy, sexuality, and reproduction.

This follows a notable pattern: As we’ve explained previously, lawmakers, prosecutors, and activists in conservative states have worked for years to aggressively expand the definition of “harmful to minors” to censor a broad swath of content: diverse educational materials, sex education resources, art, and even award-winning literature."

Mozilla announces more AI in Firefox, still failing to understand that at this point their market share is made of tech savvy people who do not want that.

Mozilla, please. Stop chasing the fads. Get your own values.

People use Firefox to get access to an open web, use a sturdy browser, and not to be tracked. Build in that direction and that direction only.

Nobody from your current user base will recommend Firefox with AI to their friends.

I hate that I can basically recycle my posts about Chat Control every month or so. These lobbyists are extremely motivated.

Let's show them that we are
even more motivated than them to protect privacy rights, human rights, and democracy! ✊🔒

You know what you have to do:

Recent news:
"Just before a decisive meeting in Brussels, digital rights expert and former Member of the European Parliament Dr. Patrick Breyer is sounding the alarm. Using a “deceptive sleight of hand,” a mandatory and expanded Chat Control is being pushed through the back door, in a form even more intrusive than the originally rejected plan. The legislative package could be greenlit tomorrow in a closed-door EU working group session."
