Všimněte si, jak snad každej, koho followujete, dělá něco zajímavýho, sdílí to co umí nejlíp anebo jen dělá něco vlastně obyčejnýho, ale vám v hlavě blikne "proč to sakra nedělám i já"

Ať už je to #sport - spousta lidí tu má #kolo a jezdí. Prostě jen tak pro zábavu, nebo denně do práce. Postuje tachometry, nešvary řidičů #auta nebo jen jednou za čas přistane #birellovka. Kolik lidí to mohlo/inspirovalo k tomu, aby jezdili taky? To nikdo neví, nikoho to nezajímá, lajků je z toho minimum a zároveň mi přijde, že birellovky a tachomety přibývají!

Nebo jsou tu ajťáci, co jedou #3Dtisk, vlastní #počítače a #servery - ukazujou jak to dělaj, točí videa, pomůžou a poradí. Opět - ne kvůli lajkům, ale kvůli tomu, že tu je taková kultura.

Pak přijde #vaření - někdo pošle fotky, jiní točí videa a ano - má z toho pouze minimální interakci, ale výsledkem je, že moje sedmiletá dcera doma peče a vaří buchtičky s krémem!

Jindy zase z bláznivýho nápadu vznikne českej #dabing užitečnýho videa nebo novej #livestream.

Jestli máte pocit, že postujete do echo-chamber, zamyslete se znovu.

Myslim, že slovo pro dnešní den bude #inspirace .. díky všem, že to tu děláte takhle skvělý!

I'm once again asking the #Fediverse for a little bit of it's enlightenment.

What non USA-based #VPS are you using, or you recommend?
Currently with Linode. And even though I've just migrated from a Texas located node to a Canadian (Vancouver) one, I would really like to use the services from a company that's not under the jurisdiction of the orange tyrant / clown.
Preferably one that can offer me a machine close to my current location (Mexico).

Atm, #Hetzner , Netcup, Contabo & Mythic Beasts looks promising. Anything I should know before getting involved with any of those?

Eagle-eyed product developer @parkerortolani spotted something in Apple's WWDC 2025 presentation: Mastodon. During designer Billy Sorrentino's section on visual intelligence, there's a clear shot of @ivory. "It was clearly both a way to subtly show developers what they can do with their own apps, but also read as a sort of endorsement of Mastodon as a social platform," Ortolani writes on his blog. "Apple didn’t show Bluesky, Threads, or X. They chose to show a third-party Mastodon client."

Looks like I picked the wrong week to start using Friendica.

Crashes across all interfaces, takes forever to load. Maybe, if you collapsed all comments by default, just maybe it wouldn't be crunching so hard. Bluesky integration fails completely. Oh well, seemed perfect for me, in the abstract. I learned quite a lot about the potential. Think I just need to make Mastodon my one stop-shop instead.

Many consider #Bluesky a success, but in fact its activity has steadily declined since Trump's inauguration. The #Fediverse has had similar trends. Rapid growth caused by an external event is always followed by a slow decline back to a small base of loyal users. In a world full of dopamine addiction, it's hard to be a social network without dark patterns.

Admin of todon.nl suggests, and rightly so, that the default/flagship Mastodon instance (isn’t decentralisation great?) be moved to a more neutral jurisdiction than Germany:

“Herewith the urgent request to move the Mastodon server presented to new users as the default (mastodon.social) to a more neutral jurisdiction (e.g. Switzerland). An alternative is to set up a new Mastodon server in a more neutral jurisdiction, which can then serve as a new flagship server.

The trigger for this is the regular negative moderation of people who speak out against the largest and bloodiest genocide of our time, the one in Palestine. In particular they use (or abuse, how you want to look at it) of a German law that seeks to counter so-called Holocaust reversal. With hiding behind this law, the moderators of mastodon.social (and especially its owner) are also unwittingly sitting in the chair of the (German) judge.

Apart from the fact that one local law should not affect the entire Mastodon project, the question is whether this law and the concept of Holocaust reversal are legally tenable in an international context.”

Mastodon mod closes the ticket after stating “There is no current plan to make changes to the Mastodon instances operated by Mastodon gGmbH. People are free to choose any Mastodon server when signing up for the platform.”

And this (see screenshot) is what that “choice” looks like.

This decentralisation anti-pattern – along with the fact that they didn’t close registrations after hitting a certain size to create a social precedent and allow distribution to other servers (as I advised Eugen to do back in the day) – is why there is a flagship instance to begin with when it’s an absolute contradiction of terms in a system that purports to be decentralised.

I could use some #FediHelp .

As my long-running readers are probably aware, I schedule a _lot_ of posts in advance. I use @bufferapp for this, and I am largely satisfied with this, except for one thing:

They have a fixed character limit of 500 for posts, and thus I cannot make use of the full 10,000 characters of my instance.

This is bad, since most of my scheduled posts are German folk tales exceeding this character limit, and thus I am forced to use screenshots instead of plain texts - which is terrible from an #accessibility point of view (yes, there are readers that can identify the text, but I'd rather use plain text in the first place). So I am looking for alternatives. Here are my requirements:

- It must have a web interface I can use on my desktop PC - I grew up with proper screens and keyboards, and while I _can_ use a smart phone or tablet for complex stuff, I do not find the experience enjoyable.
- It must have a calendar view instead of being a simple, scrollable list - I often schedule posts weeks in advance, and I want to be able to keep track of what is scheduled.
- It must make full use of the character limits of each instance.
- It must allow for scheduling threads - quite a few of the tales I am posting exceed the 10,000 character limit.
- It must work with #Mastodon . While I am aware that other #Fediverse systems (such as #Friendica ) have scheduling options of their own, switching to an entirely different system is a drastic step that I only want to explore when all other options have been exhausted.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Linux communities beware of #PewDiePie fans

Regardless of PewDiePie’s personal #politics (which clearly, at the very least are problematic), it is fairly well known by anyone who has been following him for any number of years that the vast majority of his fan base are enthusiastic fascists.

Now #PewDiePie , who’s content centers around PC gaming and Windows, has decided to switch to #Linux and published a video encouraging his followers to do the same. This means a very large number of his #fascist fan base is going to be switching to Linux.

Now many Linux communities are going to be forced to more explicitly choose their politics. Like the parable of the Nazi bar, if the community remains politically neutral, it will become fascist in short order.

A few things to be wary of:

• People asking you not to be “too political” or to “focus on the technology, not the politics” is a classic and highly effective fascist ruse to get moderators to lighten up on fascist elements posting in their community.
• People complaining about free speech rights. The #Internet and the #Fediverse is already a domain where people can speak freely about their politics by running their own server and building their own community with few to no government constraints. You don’t need to compromise on whether fascists have the right to free speech in your community.
• Arguments over your code of conduct (CC) and “safe spaces.” Keep them up-to-date. Research other people’s CCs, learn about the history of why these CCs came to be, learn about what the function of each clause of the code is included and phrased the way it is. These were usually designed to make explicit the fact that a community wants to be a safe space where underprivileged people can feel comfortable expressing themselves, and it is very easy to make people afraid to express themselves. Fascists understand these CCs and the concept of “safe spaces” were explicitly designed to exclude them, and often attack these ideas.
