I want to write my own cross-platform and accessible for blind users #Mastodon client.
There are no #a11y friendly clients for Linux (only some TUI software) and there are only one buggy and unstable proprietary client for Windows called #tweesecake.
I already know the stack I'll use but I have one problem.
I don't know Mastodon well enough to be sure that I implement every feature which is supported there.
For sure I can read the whole API reference but maybe there are easier ways, maybe some list of features, maybe some feature guide for developers, etc.

As a blind user I can't just install any popular and cool client and take all features from it... That's the problem: they are not accessible at all or not accessible enough for every day use.

So, maybe someone helps me with some sort of docs or I don't know :D

Ah, I see that BlueSky has joined LinkedIn in supplanting Twitter as the primary source of accessibility misinformation.

(I didn’t make this clear, but this post came across my timeline here and on linkedin and it just shows how this kind of stuff spreads on algorithmic timelines and then bleeds over to other social networks. That’s how you poison a well.)

So this third party Windows Bluesky app is making a good start in terms of accessibility. JAWS reads it well. There are buttons in the tab order to switch between Home, notifications, maybe other timelines when available. Posts are read as you arrow through the list. The main thing this seems to lack so far is keyboard shortcuts, but if the author is receptive, it would be an easy fix: #a11y #beeskie windowscentral.com/software-ap…

As a low vision / blind user, So, I'm looking to install Linux after a 10+ year hiatus - Any advice, distributions or other articles or list servs someone can point me to? BlindArch, seems dead #a11y #blind #linux

I have emphasized numerous times in the past why you should not use #HCaptcha, especially in situations where equal access is vital. Their practices are not inclusive, locking out users who have no other way to access whatever the captcha protects. This blog post illustrates one of the scenarios: michaels.world/2023/11/i-was-b…

Here's to better captcha solutions in the future, or to indeed existing ones, such as mcaptcha.org/ #a11y #accessibility #blind #captcha

Finished @viscousplatypus’s “The Accessibility Operations Guidebook” this morning. Probably a good idea to read if you do digital accessibility and want to scale up your impact. I recommend.

This quote from a former independent consultant who has become an employee really lands.

If you've been looking for that next semi-cheap music-making fix but haven't decided what to get, consider Ableton Move.
If you look at the official videos, literature and documentation, you'd be fooled into thinking that it's not actually accessible. This is incorrect.
It runs a web-server for helping you manage samples, recordings and sets, but it also has an undocumented screen-reader which I demonstrate in this video.
Next to Komplete Kontrol, I can say that this has been the most innovative, fun and game-changing piece of hardware I've owned and I thoroughly enjoy working with it.

Excerpt from Peter Kirn's blog about Move:
‘How do I access Move with a screen reader?
Andre Louis has a walkthrough for you, as pointed out here in comments! And as always, it’s terrific. This is honestly worth a watch for sighted users, too, to understand how these interactions work – and it’s required viewing if you work in instrument design.’

A few months ago I wrote about how I approach alternative text for images and tried to offer context for each of my considerations.

For me, @joplinapp@mastodon.social is the most important #ToDo and #wiki tool for my efficient daily #work and #organization.

With the new version, there are some improvements for #accessibility, such as the use of #screenreaders.

I hope #blind people can enjoy this #app.

A big shout out to everyone at #A11yCamp yesterday. Sean spent a very informative day there leaning and networking on all the latest in #A11y / #Accessibility!

Photos are Sean with Riley Busch from the department of education, and a view of the Clarendon Auditorium filling up before the event started

As noted on the banner in the first photo, A11y Camp is Australia's premier conference on digital accessibility and inclusion.

Just found this article stating that using the #language #attribute for individual words within a text is not a good idea when you want #ScreenReader users to have a good #UX. It's just overengineered #a11y.

I'm a bit surprised as you always read otherwise (as the article also mentions).

Are some screen reader users here that can share their experiences? I'm really curious now 🤔

I really feel sorry for the public sector employees working on meeting this #a11y deadline for PDFs.

"PDFs are where services go to die."

No doubt the people working on this will be super under-resourced, and actually meeting this deadline won't be seen as much of a win by anyone, but not meeting it has legal and dire consequences.

To be clear more #a11y is good! Under-resourcing teams is not!

A couple years ago I opened a thread to add #AltText on #Mastodon banners and profile pictures. Now detailed todos are being posted. Is there anyone who could help in this case?

It took a while but the developer has finally added the required accessibility enhancements so I can finally share a fun little game called Language Guessr. You're given a short audio recording and it is your task to guess what language it is in. Should you give the wrong answer, you have the option to hear a sample recording in the language you indicated so that you can learn the difference. A great little toy for language geeks. There's an edit combobox at the top to search for the country so that you don't have to navigate the map view which doesn't work with screen readers. Happy playing! languageguessr.io/ #Accessibility #A11y #Blind #Languages
