Incidentally, the interface for choosing which folders get included is not accessible, which means one must do it very carefully and remember precisely which things to toggle in advance if using a screen reader. This #Thunderbird a11y issue is old as sin and it's not like thunderbird does not know how to present checkboxes.

Just filed a bug for #Thunderbird, I hope this gets fixed. Let me know if anyone has a workaround:

The problem, as previously described, is that when archiving email the folder for this year does not appear where it should, Archives -> account name -> year, but at the end of the tree, below deleted messages.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1895095

Having a very weird issue with #Thunderbird. The archived email folder for this year (2024) for one of the accounts does not appear as a subfolder of archives, but somewhere further down on the tree.

@thunderbird there is no option to show avatars in the message list, right? #thunderbird

Especially with a lot of messages per day, the messages list is just noise to me. Avatars would be great to reduce cognitive overhead. #ux #a11y

Don't mind me, just reading the news while trying to figure out a #Thunderbird issue where it doesn't download all the emails...

No need for spells, eldritch invocations, or inherent abilities to see Thunderbird's dark side. To enable dark mode in Thunderbird:

Thunderbird (hamburger) Menu > Add-ons and Themes > Themes

Feel free to tell everyone you know about this! Repeatedly. :angery:

Missed Office Hours last week? No problem: the full recording is ready to watch on YouTube and @tilvids.

The 3 developers behind the effort to bring native Microsoft Exchange support to Thunderbird discuss their adventures in Rust, and explain the long-term benefits and steep challenges associated with this project.

That's cool. But I'm getting more and more worried about the state of the #RSS reader in #thunderbird

Before, it read all the feeds on my list of feeds to read. No sweat, no drama. Now it's reading less and less of a chunk. It' starts reading and then simply stops without telling me why. I'm having to subdivide the list into sublists and call the reader on each to have them read in full. That's very annoying. And time-consuming.

The Thunderbird Beta channel just updated to version 126.0b1, and it brings major visual improvements to Cards View! 😍
(Shown here with all visible messages selected.)

A big round of applause to Micah and Sol from our UX team for their awesome work on this, and to our community for your valuable feedback here and on our #Thunderbird UX mailing list (https://thunderbird.topicbox.com/groups/ux).

Hi, listened to the podcast a few moments ago, and some comments.

The TB Conversations addon works again, since a few months, without real problems.

Firefox mobile has extensions since 3 years or so. It just had a really restricted extensions list and not all where compatible. You could and still can add a custom addon collection on nightly-based browsers. This did not change, they simply changed the store.

I really appreciate Thunderbird's team, and these updates are going to finally put it into the running with other modern offerings. I migrated to using it as my daily driver for email management a few years ago, and I'm glad I did, but I'm also so excited to be looking at desktop improvements and an android app.

Sometimes I’m still shocked at how awesome the Thunderbird team is. I’ve been in this industry for 20 years and the amount of shit people I dealt with it’s astonishing.
Everyone inside Thunderbird really cares about the people, the ethical and freedom aspects of what we do.
The work is hard and sometimes stress takes over the best of us, but we really built a team of kind and honest people.
What a refreshing environment!

After a stable release of K-9 Mail, our Android team usually spends a couple weeks fixing bugs. The bug hunt takes center stage in this month's #Android progress report, with cketti and Wolf ironing out a BUNCH of them.

We want to find bugs before our users do! So, since the release of 115 Supernova, we’ve been putting a much stronger focus on improving our automated testing.

@WestphalDenn @Talon I don't think it's that catastrophic as this sounds any more. I can't say this is not happening but it's very rare. I am on @GNOME . If I get an unresponsive experience I can press alt+F2, type in orca --replace and the screen reader comes back. I can even bind this to a global keyboard shortcut.
When I am leaving my office I am often closing some 15 browser windows, some 10 terminal windows, about 5 different files open in the text editor.
Most used apps on my desktop include #Firefox #Thunderbird file manager (pcmanfm or nautilus), Gedit, VLC media player, electron based apps such as teamsforlinux, losslesscut and gnome-terminal.
Next I'm using @LibreOffice, I am also using #Emacs with #speechd-el a little and finally some other less frequently used apps.
As for the #TTS or the #audio setup I am using #RHVoice, speech-dispatcher and @PipeWire Project .
Finally with @Matt Campbell and @Lukáš Tyrychtr we do have tallented visually disabled developers dogfooding or partially dog fooding so let me finish this post by saying it really is gold era of a linux #a11y and we are looking forward for what it brings us in the future.

We're often asked "When can I use Thunderbird in my browser?" It's a logical question! After all, Thunderbird was built on top of Firefox technologies, right?

Let's have a quick chat about it:

I don't like the mentioned #Mozilla stuff (like accounts and Sync).

Will this kind of features limited to the #Thunderbird version of the code base?

What email client are people using on desktop these days? Is #Thunderbird still the go? My MS Office subscription gives me access to Outlook but it's terrible for personal use (arguably it's terrible for any use, but it's annoying enough that I don't want to use it even though I'm already paying for it).

I was going to make a joke here about going back to Lotus Notes, but it looks like IBM sold it back in 2019, so it wouldn't even feel nostalgic.

Boosts welcome.
