Tohle si myslím, že by nás jako bug report zajímalo! Může to být taky zapnutou nějakou hardwarovou akcelerací, kterou ten ovladač nedává, a její vypnutí by to vyřešilo.
Tak jsem na kouknul. 🔎 Pokusama jsem došel k tomu, že to spadne vždycky když je na stránce nějaký webgl prvek. Vypnutí hw akcelerace pomohlo, ale nakonec jsem došel k pravděpodobně lepšímu řešení. Nastavil jsem proměnnou MOZ_DRM_DEVICE=/dev/dri/card0 a tím (jestli to dobře chápu) donutil Firefox použít integrovanou grafiku na hw akceleraci.
Btw nikdy jsem si neuvědomil kolik webů má někde nějaký webgl efekt. Z mého pohledu prostě najednou spadl web na běžné stránce nebo doplňku. Například když jsem se pokusil Graze doplněk propojit s Mastodonem. Až teď jsem zjistil, že po propojení vyhodí webgl renderované konfety a to způsobilo pád. 🎊
Jo a ještě musím kouknout jestli nemám něco blbě nastavený v systému, protože mi přijde divný, že Firefox videa v pohodě přehrával přes integrovanou grafiku, ale na webgl zkoušel použít nvidii.
Jo a ještě mě zlobí, že Firefox občas bliká když okno ztratí focus. Mám pocit že mi to dělaly některý apky na XWaylandu, ale zdá se že Firefox jede přímo na Waylandu. 🤷
Technicky dobrý. Co uživatel? Umí se synchronizovat včetně nastavení mezi zařízeními? Chrome nebo Edge, přihlásím se a vše se nahraje. Ve FF to bylo složité jak hovado, proto se ptám. Jinak Samsung v mobilu je velmi slušný. Za mě lepší než Chrome.
Tohle si myslím, že mají pěkně vychytané. Stačí se přihlásit a během chvilky má člověk data sesynchronizovaná. Dokonce člověk nemusí ani vyplňovat přihlašovací údaje, stačí naskenovat QR kód, který mu to zobrazí. Ani jsem to nezmiňoval, protože to dnes považuju za standard, který má i konkurence, ale ve Firefoxu to teď IMHO funguje fakt pěkně.

Excellent news! What about editing text in edit boxes with GTK4's Wayland backend? Is this fixed or do I still have to use an X session to make it work.
I haven't reported a bug yet, but this is general GTK4 everywhere. Gnome calculator, anything with a search box, the gnome text editor, all do this. Tab or shift tab, text is announced because it's selected. The minute you try arrowing around or deleting things, Orca stays silent. Works perfectly fine on X though, tested with gnome calculator and the cursoring problems went away.
Is it me, or is speech feedback in cmd on Windows 11 not as reliable? I often get nothing at all, and have to use nvda-arrows to review what happened. NVDA's focus doesn't even move as I type. I'll issue a command and get a response, but have to nvda-arrow down to the response instead of focus following it as it should. This seems to happen more in Powershell windows than cmd, but that might not be accurate. SSH sessions seem unaffected.
I personally find Windows Terminal, which is the default in Windows 11 I think, to be really buggy and unreliable. To change that, Windows Settings (Windows+i), type terminal into the search box, select "Choose a terminal host app for interactive command-line tools", and change Terminal to "Windows Console Host". See if that helps.

Some feedback on the Bene rendering of the article from an accessibility perspective (I haven't grabbed the EPUB yet):
1. All the buttons at the top are unlabeled.
2. The link after each block element is annoying when doing a continuous read. I don't know of a better way to advertise that there's an anchor for each block element, though.
3. The document title should be an h1 (right now it doesn't seem to be a heading at all), and all the other headings should be h2 or greater.

More details about the end of #IPv4 in state services: On 18th of December 2013 Czech #government decided that every service provided by Czech state has to be available on #IPv6 and be protected by #DNSSEC by 30th of June 2015. Yesterday a followed up action has been agreed on. On 6th of June 2032, IPv4 will be disabled on all services offered by Czech republic and they will be only available on IPv6 from that day on. Apart from that, every June starting from 2025, Czech government will get a report on how are the preparations.
Overall seems like a bold move, but I totally support it! IT sends a message, that #IPv4 is over and everybody should move to #IPv6 already. And even government - the definition of conservative and bureaucratic institution - gets it. Then why shouldn't you embrace it 😉

Kevin Fjelsted of R. D. Partners, Inc. is interested in hiring blind persons as software developers. They are engaged in developing telecommunications software for their customers, including CRM LIght and iOS applications for iPhone.
As you may know, finding software developers who know accessibility is a big problem today. Kevin thinks hiring blind persons is the solution to this problem.
Given the demand for software developers today (100,000 job vacancies nationwide) companies are no longer requiring four year degrees in computer science or information technology. Instead, a number of "boot camp" training programs have cropped up, some of them quite expensive. R.D. Partners has found a nonprofit that has agreed to train people for them at no charge to trainees.
What do you need to do to take advantage of this opportunity? First of all, be a power computer user with knowledge of accessibility. Some training and/or experience in software development is recommended, but a solid interest in learning and a commitment to this type of work is definitely required. They will be able to determine if you have the aptitude pretty quickly.
This is a job for a creative person. Many software developers are writers, poets, and artistic types. That may surprise some of you, but it is true.

My very clever friend, @revk, has been making a GPS logger which requires no third party account or server, after I said I was looking for one.
Here are my initial thoughts on using it.
tl;dr: it just works. It automatically logs our journeys to an on-board micro-SD card, and uploads them, via https POST, to my webserver, when it connects to Wi-Fi. And it runs Free software!

While refactoring A/V calls I got myself into a situation where I can no longer verify that calls are working on these devices without access to a physical devices. (Emulator has knows issues when it comes to A/V calls.)

I just found a OnePlus A3003 that should be shipped with Android 6 and might be updated to Android 7. I'll charge it to check if it's working and which software version it's running.

I'm trying to set up a folder on my new laptop that's shared. Using this, I can just copy things from my old PC to this folder, then from there to wherever they should go on the laptop. I've enabled everyone to have full permission, and turned off login requirements for shared folders. File/printer sharing is on. Yet my old PC still demands a username and password every time I try to connect to this folder. Anyone know why? Does Windows have a simple way to transfer files I'm not thinking of?

Yeah, but I'm not willing to make an account, upload a thing, download a thing etc. The option to add from zip file just says 'the file might be corrupt' which is extremely misleading and pointless. if the option itself doesn't work, remove it entirely. Made me feel stupid.
I just cloned the repo, then went to about:debugging in FF, clicked on This Firefox, clicked on Load Temporary Addon, chose the manifest and it got installed. Sounds started playing immediately.

Thanks for taking time to write such a thoughtful post. About UI test automation, you mentioned work on input injection, but this also overlaps with accessibility. I'm now prototyping a successor to AT-SPI, and was wondering if you have any thoughts on what you'd want in your ideal accessibility protocol.
@matt I am not extremely knowledgeable in A11y, the issues raised with me mainly came from the testability and automation branch: For example, being able to find a button in a UI, and perform a click on it, resize a window, hover over an element and inject keyboard combinations and text, these kinds of things. 1/2
Sorry, I meant to ask if there's anything you'd want for test automation, or any aspects of AT-SPI that you particularly dislike (I assume you currently have to use AT-SPI to find buttons etc.). I do have experience with accessibility; I'm visually impaired myself, and I wrote a third-party Windows screen reader and later worked on the Windows accessibility team at Microsoft.
@matt Ooops, how embarrassing - I completely misunderstood your question then! Sorry for that! I'll ask a contact about AT-SPI specifically, but my impression was that these things were always used with some abstraction on top of AT-SPI in a larger test framework. One definite issue with AT-SPI is the documentation (more would always help, since it is very complex). Some smaller apps I know now use QTest, which uses Qt internals for testing, so no AT-SPI is involved there.
On the topic of window placement, forgive me if this has already been discussed and rejected, but how about an extension that lets applications assign persistent IDs to windows? Then, each time the application creates a window with a particular ID, the window manager can place that window at a saved position for that ID. That'd require toolkits and applications to change, but thinking about this as an app developer, I like the idea.
See, this is exactly the problem here. The blog posts makes it seem like all the people involved in wayland don't care about making the applications work well on wayland. We suggested that this protocol can be used with another new protocol to solve 90% of the use cases. This was dismissed because of the missing 10%. Instead of pushing the protocol that everyone wants we now have another protocol that doesn't go anywhere.
For a variety of cases it's desirable to have a method for negotiating the restoration of previously-used states for a client's windows. This helps for e.g., a compositor/client...
@matt This is in a way the session-management protocol. But consider this: What if an application has an IDE layout[1] or a layout like GIMP's multi-window mode where windows need to be initilly placed in relation to each other? What if a window needs to show up next to a UI control, like for docked windows in docked UIs or for picture-in-picture displays? For that, the compositor at least needs to know an initial placement as well, restoration-only will not work.

@David Goldfield Was this an online presentation or was this in person? If it's in person where did it took place? How many people have attended and how much they liked this new upcoming device? Were you also able to touch the prototipe? Can you imagine using this to type when comparing with touch braille keyboard on a smartphone? Can you describe some reactions of others?
@David Goldfield Hardwarewise is the PRO model the same? In other words if I am capable enough would I be able to flash PRO image into the standard unit or has PRO image better graphic card and more memory?
@pvagner The hardware is the same, just added software. You can switch from the desktop (Pro) to the Basic (tablet) with a chord command. It's quick too. The tablet has context sensitive help too with H-chord.
@dblazie It might sound a trivial question, but can you please tell me how long it takes from the time you switch it on until the unit is ready? Everything seems to be getting slower and slower these days.
@brianhartgen @dblazie Hi, Brian. There's a waiting period when you first boot up the unit if it's completely powered down. Once it's on you can put it in a sleep mode with fast wake-up times. A complete boot takes around 26 seconds. However, once the unit is on you can just quickly press the power button to lock the unit. Pressing the power button again instantly wakes it up and you're back where you were. Pressing the power button for a few seconds performs a total shut-down.
@michalkasperczak Jeszcze nie wiem. Z jednej strony wygląda ciekawie, ale z drugiej NP. Lynx jako przeglądarka w dzisiejszych czasach może nie wystarczyć a z drugiej strony nie wiem, jak dobrze graficzny interfejs czy dokładniej ORCA będzie działać na malince. No i będą mieli konkurencję w postaci Orbit Speaka, który ma kosztować kilkaset dolarów mniej, a tam pod maską ma być Android. Fakt Orbit na początku nie planuje przeglądarki, ale z drugiej strony nie wykluczyli, że kiedyś może zaoferują możliwość instalowania zewnętrznych aplikacji.
@pitermach @michalkasperczak Mam jednak wrażenie, że spóźnili się tak o jakieś 15 lat. Pamiętacie Icona od Levelstar? Ten sprzęt potrafił w zasadzie to samo, a był produkowany w 2007? 2008? roku. Gdyby jeszcze Blazie chciał udostępnić oprogramowanie tego notatnika każdemu chętnemu za darmo, to może miałoby to jakiś sens, a tak? Może jedynie trochę starszych niewidomych z sentymentu dla twórcy to kupi.
@midzi @michalkasperczak Też prawda, z resztą z tego co pamiętam jednym z głównych założycieli projektu Icon był jeden z inżynierów pracujących w Blazie nad braille N’ Speakiem. Może gdyby oprogramowanie faktycznie było otwarto źródłowe to wytworzyła by się wokół niego jakaś społeczność ale tak nie wiem, ile ludzi będzie chciało dać na to tyle kasy. Jeśli ktoś szuka bardzo prostego notatnika, który startuje w kilka sekund, a tacy z się zdarzają, to albo kupi tego orbita jak chcę mowę, albo któryś z monitorów posiadający notatnik gdzie z resztą orbit też może się sprawdzić.
@bryansmart @pitermach From the little I've read this feels like something that wants to be for hackers. Text-based web browser? I can work with that. But it might not give us a shell or something equally silly, then it's just useless.
@tspivey @bryansmart @pitermach Yeah, I'm unsure what demographic this is trying to hit. Any hacker is going to spend $1195 on a MacBook Air and run a Linux VM, not on a Raspberry Pi in a case. If it was $200 or 300, it might be a fun novelty item, and perhaps this will be a hit with the same type of folks that want inexpensive AT like the Orbit. I feel like this could be an excellent candidate for a 3d printing project, and those who don't want to print could just buy.
The BTSpeak is visible on your home network with a /Public directory so you can move files to and from it with your desktop computer. The Pro version has Libra Office suite which supports Microsoft Word formats. You would be using the Orca screen reader in the Pro version.
