Recently, for Digital Wellbeing we merged notification improvements. Other feature work that will allow parents to better set their kids screen time by not allowing kids to unlock the screen and allow parents to extend screen time as needed is under review.
Digital Wellbeing helps parents encourage safe and healthy habits for their kids. These are features that are funded by the GNOME Foundation. #DigitalWellbeing #FriendsofGNOME

Pretty cool work from @sophie to see @gnome in numbers

As some of you know, I like aggregating data. So here are some random numbers about GNOME in 2025. This post is not about making any point with the numbers I’m sharing. It’s just for fun. So, what...Sophie Herold (Sophie's Blog)
Looks like global shortcuts are not possible under #Wayland's security model. #Hyprland apparently poked a hole into it to enable it.
If anyone knows a workaround for #KDE (or #GNOME) let me know. I used to define global shortcuts for all sorts of stuff.

✔ Say you search for something and there's a list of smart results.
You have a toggle that enables something like 'strict keyword matching' - which means any result not having those keywords will be dealt with.
👀 Catch: Keep in mind that often search results can be indirectly related to what you looking for without containing those keywords.
Question is, how would you like them dealt with?

Does anyone know how to do bidirectional sync between two file servers on #Linux? That is, if I add or modify a file on any one server, it propogates to the other one. Like DropBox or Google Drive.
I found rclone's bisync command but when I run it, it says it's experimental and I shouldn't run it "in production".
Ideally would prefer not to use the Nextcloud client...
Flathub's "2025 Year in Review" contains many interesting statistics. I find this one the most interesting: Despite years of full support for ARM in Linux distributions and wild predictions, ARM still has an absolutely marginal share of the Linux desktop user base.
My 92 year old aunt: You do the Leenux thing, right? You need to come over sometime and install it for me, because f#ck all I ain't gonna update to Windows 11.
Me: .... ?!#!?
I explain what the change-over entails and that I generally don't recommend it just because...
Aunt: No, f#ck that, f#ck capitalism, my laptop is still fine, so come over and set me up with that Leenux thing.

Eh, pls #boost my request to #getfedihired, if you could spare two clicks? 🥺
I've been humming and hawing about posting this, it feels strange, something about generational guilt & working class shame & ... but it's either this or start putting my CV through LLMs to include every buzzword on the listing I'm applying to. I haven't been able to stomach that, even though I presume that's a lot of my competition.
I simply can't get to an interview. Historically, I've done three interviews and got the job each time, because I'm a real human being who is friendly and chatty and presents himself sincerely (or, that's my guess, anyway).
#Christmas miracles appreciated!
In #Ireland with my partner, but we've lived in different places and would move happily. I've a year experience doing an IT support role the last year, but have transitioned to this stuff later than usual.
Before I've done: bartender; bicycle courier for Deliveroo in #Berlin for two years (best job ever); private tutor for five years in #Lyon (mostly piano but also maths, Irish, English, flute, tin whistle); bookies clerk for a short period; a few other odd bits - one highlight was writing reviews for a theatre company.
Oh, very comfortably fluent in #French, pretty fluent in #Irish (my first love), and intermediate #German (which I would love to have a chance to go back speaking and learning).
Tech-wise, it's been mostly on the #Linux / #Emacs / #Lisp side of things. I would happily work on anything that is one or more of challenging, interesting, useful, or moral.
Money doesn't rule me. I want to live with a humane level of comfort, that's all.
CVs and references available, DMs open. Thanks so much for any and all help!
Really annoying Orca behavior: you have to navigate by word to find spelling errors. rather than by paragraph or sentence. This is a massive productivity killer. If any #Blind #Linux users know how to change this, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll write to the Orca list and see if this can't be fixed.
Update: have written to the Orca list about this and hoping it's something that I can simply configure.

Ubuntu-based elementary OS 8.1 is now available with the Wayland-based Secure Session set as the default and fixes over 1,100 reported issues.
linuxiac.com/elementary-os-8-1…
Today I checked elementary OS's website, because I was curious if elementary OS 8.1 had released yet. And nothing. It turns out I just checked two hours early, because it just released right now!
It brings fractional display scaling. Finally! I have been whining about this for way too long. And now it's here. The Wayland session is now the default session, and a lot of other goodies, and as always with elementary, a huge focus on accessibility, which couldn't be a bigger deal.
Huge props to the @elementary team, and congratulations to them!
My laptop is giving me the side-eye right now. It knows what's about to happen. :D
We love hearing from you and take pride in a tight feedback loop where we push updates in weeks not years. Since the release of OS 8, we’ve been able to address over 1,100 of the reports you filed!
~72% of them were fixed bugs—unexpected or disruptive software behaviors
~18% were new features or enhancements that you requested
The last 10% were things like project management tasks, tech debt, and code cleanup
Many notebooks and tablets now ship with displays that aren’t quite HiDPI, but are more pixel dense than traditional displays. In OS 8.1, we now support fractional display scaling in the Secure Session
For the first time we now also offer ARM64 builds for devices that boot with UEFI. This means you'll be able to run OS 8.1 on M-series Apple Silicon and devices where you can load UEFI-supporting firmware like Raspberry Pi. This version of Linux also supports certain Qualcomm and Rockchip processors, for example
This year @zersiax joined us again for another round of accessibility testing. Installer views should all have much improved accessible labels. Thanks to this feedback, OS 8.1 can be installed and set up completely blind in most cases.
Thanks to feedback from @fireborn, Notifications and the Shortcut Overlay both added screen reader support. We’ve also improved screen reader labels in Calendar, In System Settings → Firmware updates, and in AppCenter to name a few cases.
In OS 8 we kept the Classic Session as default with the option to try a Secure Session. Since then we’ve released updates fixing issues, app developers have updated, and hardware makers have fixed issues in their drivers. The Secure Session now provides a better experience for most people and supports a broader range of modern hardware
In OS 8.1, the Secure Session is now the default session, with the option to fall back to the Classic Session if you still need it
Everything you love, made even better. OS 8.1 improves the Secure Session and Dock, enhances accessibility, improves support for your devices, and addresses your feedback with over 1,100 issue reports fixed

[arch-announce] NVIDIA 590 driver drops Pascal support; main packages switch to Open Kernel Modules
@Friendica Support hello, i would like some help please to understand how to solve my confusion about the "right" way to follow #hashtags, using #Channels ... or otherwise some better way.
i follow a large number of hashtags [as a glance at my profile would attest]. afaict / afaik, fediverse posts bearing these tags appear [or are supposed to] in my "Network" timeline [with "Everybody" Circle & "Latest posts" Channel selected].
of my many tags, possibly my most "important" ones are #AusPol, #FOSS, & #Linux. in order to be able to efficiently locate all posts with these tags each day, rather than have to meticulously scroll down the full "Network" timeline [which is dissipated via also having all the other tags, & all my Followed accounts' posts], in Settings i created three dedicated Channels [one for each of those tags, ofc]. then i added each of those custom Channels to my Timelines, in Display Settings.
however, the result is just hopeless; really disappointing & frustrating. over recent years i have had several Friendica accounts, ie, at several instances, & doing the above has never worked properly in any of them, not only my current instance.
using the AusPol Channel for example, as it is the worst by far, every time i check it, its most recent post is several hours old, & often as bad as 12 - 18 hours old, with numerous other posts entirely missing.
i say "missing" because otoh, reviewing my Saved Search for #AusPol shows all these other posts, which therefore also appear, buried, in my full "Network" timeline.
over the months & years in exasperation, i have revisited the dedicated Channels in Settings, & for the Circle/Channel field have tried each of Latest posts, Latest Creation, Global community, & Latest activity, but none of them has solved the problem [indeed, a few make it even worse!].
please, what am i doing wrong? what aspect of Friendica's Settings have i been consistently misunderstanding / misusing, that causes this disappointment?
Thanks for sharing those "Translate" AGPLv3 tools
, interesting!
What will be the license for Tuta Drive by the way?
That being said, #Microsoft tools are beyond awful. How come this company is still a thing? It's ridiculous 😄
