I'm baffled about the myriad of @mozillaofficial structures, amount of directors / C-level people & how to rhyme 'investing in privacy-respecting advertising; with 'draw a bigger circle of supporters over the long run.'

As a long time Mozilla supporter, I was already unhappy about the direction of the last years & this does certainly not bode well for the future. 😞 😩

#XMPP enthusiasts out there: what would you say the ultimate Achilles heel of the XMPP ecosystem is, at present? Fragmentation of clients? What?

My sense is that it's this: when one goes to store an XMPP address in one's addressbook, there doesn't seem to be standard way to store an XMPP address. #Android doesn't have that as an allowable field, and #Thunderbird and #Nextcloud have an "Instant Messaging" field, where the type can be set to "XMPP". But are these two compatible with each other when trying to sync between them? Edit: Yes, but there's a catch: *the XMPP address must be prefixed with "xmpp:"*

So "user@foo.bar" is not an OK XMPP address, but "xmpp:user@foo.bar" is.

Then to make matters worse, now there's a wish to change the labeling of "XMPP Address" to "Chat ID": gultsch.social/@daniel/1140129…

It might be a long time before the address synchy-ness ever works again between Android <-> #Davx5 <-> Nextcloud <->Thunderbird

Note: Android allows a "Jabber" type for an IM address, where you *don't* prefix the address with "xmpp:".

(#DeltaChat gets to gloat hard here, as they have plain-old email addresses)

Absolutely nobody knows what an XMPP address is, so just go ahead and call it a:

Just opened up the #Thunderbird app to check out the calendar. Had tried the RSS feed but something didn't work for me. Just now I noticed that the RSS area can either show the article summary or load the web page. I don't want either; I want the article text without the web page. That's what most of the readers I've used do.

A little surprising to me that #Thunderbird #Mobile doesn't have the same #RSS features as the desktop.

I've been using RSS a lot more lately - after quite some time away - and have enjoyed having RSS feeds right in Thunderbird, alongside everything else.

Not a big dealbreaker but a bummer.

#TIL that #Thunderbird lets me set #filters to move an #email to a particular place *when* I archive it, rather than immediately! So I can still read the emails as they come in, and then hit "archive" to have them automagically filed away 📁️

There are other triggers too, besides "as soon as the email comes in" and "when I archive" that I haven't explored yet. Thunderbird rocks! :thunderbird: ✨️

Mailbird y Em Cliente. Los dos dando tamaño correcto.

Losing my mind here. Anyone using #Thunderbird for Android? Push isn't working 90% of the time and I can't seem to find any solution. I've seen reports of people having the same problem, but no solutions and the responses are all the same (go to folder, enable push, disable sync, check app permissions, disable battery saver).

This is incredibly annoying as I'm missing important emails, not getting them until I manually refresh the mailbox. When I get an email, I want to know immediately.

Any other android mail apps worthwhile? I've used Blue Mail in the past, so I guess I could go back to that. I just want something with a unified inbox as I have multiple accounts.

If you didn't find us at #fosdem today, there's still tomorrow! Building K, Floor 1 - play with Thunderbird for Android, meet the team, find out how to get involved, and get stickers!

Now that we're all excited about our iOS job opening, it's a great time to post the Office Hours with our Mobile Team from earlier this month. It's naturally pretty Android heavy, but we do discuss the new role and our plans for iOS!

(At FOSDEM this weekend? Meet our mobile team at our booth in Building K, Level 1!)

Now that I've changed my email provider to one that isn't proton, and set up end-to-end encryption in #Thunderbird I honestly would highly recommend Thunderbird. It's the first time I've used it in many years. The UI looks modern, and it makes it super obvious if you're actually getting E2EE. It also automates key sharing and key lookup.

This is all built-in btw. No extension needed, it just does OpenPGP as standard.

Proton mail never actually did this in a way I was satisfied with. Now I actually know if the email I'm sending is going to be encrypted before I send it.

I might start adding a little message to the end of any unencrypted mail I send explaining that I was unable to find a suitable encryption key, see if I can subtly encourage people to start setting up E2EE. :blobhaj_sunglasses:

We've got some exciting job openings at #Thunderbird! We're hiring for a Sr. UX Design Specialist, A #Rust /C++ Software Engineer for the desktop app, and......a Senior #iOS Engineer to join our mobile team to help us bring Thunderbird to your iPhone and iPad!

Help us spread the word!

Solving a 17 years old issue of #Thunderbird by exposing the default sorting and threading options in the settings, and allowing a quick "Apply to all" button (or choose folders separately).
Soon, on a daily release near you...

Once again we're collaborating with the incredibly talented and charming @jonhicks for some kick-ass branding at Thunderbird.

Hey @thunderbird community, do you use Cardbook? If you do, I have a problem/question: I used to drag and drop Cardbook groups into the To:/CC:/BCC: field, but this doesn’t work anymore. Do you have an idea why?
I use #Thunderbird 128.6.0esr (64-Bit) on Windows 11 (ARM). #Cardbook is version 97.7.

It is possible for #chatmail users to communicate with classic email users who have published their public key.

You just have to do manual chatmail registration, save your login details and private key securely, and use it with something that supports #pgp like #Thunderbird or #Mailvelope.

As much as I enjoy using #Thunderbird, this notice gets annoying after a while, especially because it interupts whatever my screen reader is saying, so I have to repeat the focused item to hear the subject line of an email, every single time. Does anyone have a way around this? #NVDA and #JAWS do the same thing.

Is there a #Thunderbird plugin which can automatically set the correct FROM address when replying to a mail that was sent to an alias?

I have dozens of mail aliases for my custom mail domain and it is annoying that I have to add each one as a separate Identity within Thunderbird (and setting the FROM manually on each reply is even more annoying).

Also adding the #Betterbird tag because maybe it even has a feature for that which I havent found yet?

All the name change related infra updates gave me a great excuse to finally, and fully, get settled in with @thunderbird.

And wow it has come a long way! I've got it on my laptops and desktop as well as my phone, and it's playing nice with all my inboxes and calendars.

Huge thanks to everyone who contributes #Thunderbird!

@thunderbird Just reporting a little bug that started 2 or 3 days ago. When the new day arrives, the calendar is still stuck on the previous day until I close #Thunderbird and reopen it.
