I would use #Outlook only in a business context. Then it's corporate data, and the company can decide to share it with #Microsoft or not. Having 813 "partners" which use your private data while you use Outlook for your private emails, sounds like a #privacy nightmare.

⚡ Watch out: #Microsoft joins #Google & #Facebook with its focus on ads first. ⚡

When creating a test account, #Outlook informed us of 813 data sharing partners! 🫢

Plus, the "new" Outlook app is quietly storing your data in the cloud, including your passwords.

I’m not sure who’s to blame in the #EU for giving up to the lobbying efforts of #Apple and #Microsoft (I can’t think of anything short of either public official corruption or macroscopic incompetence behind the last minute partial reversal of the #DMA definition of “gatekeeper” for the two most valuable companies in the world), but these are some consequences of this decision:

  1. If Apple isn’t labelled as a gatekeeper when it comes to #iMessage (an app used by 1.3B people), then they won’t have to comply and open up their walled garden to 3rd-party clients - while, for example, Messenger and WhatsApp will have to comply, despite having similar numbers of users.
  2. If Microsoft isn’t labelled as a gatekeeper when it comes to #Edge (a piece of software installed as the default browser on an OS used by at least 1.5B people), then they’ll be free to keep rewriting https:// URLs as microsoft-edge:https:// just for the sake of intercepting everything and breaking compatibility, they’ll no longer have to provide browser selection pop-ups on fresh Windows installations, and they can keep opening all the web views and PWA on Windows devices in their own browser without providing alternatives - while, for example, Chrome and Safari will have to comply.

Shame on the EU for bending to them. They have just lost a huge chunk of credibility, and nobody should trust them the next time that they say that they want to uphold the same principles to everyone. Shame on these companies and on their lobbying efforts. Shame on everybody who still uses their products and gives them so much undeserved leverage.

The DMA and the “gatekeeper” definition was supposed to be the proof that these companies are now run by responsible adults. Being a “gatekeeper” is the acknowledgment that you are running platforms used by billions, and with great power comes great responsibility - towards society, towards regulators, towards the rules of the open market, towards your own competitors.

My employer might be included on the list soon as well, and I’m more than happy to comply. Large tech companies like ours have enjoyed lavish profits and outrageous market shares and ignored anti-competition laws for too long: now it’s time to prove that we’re all grown ups who want to play by the rules.

Instead, Apple and Microsoft have unleashed their overpaid legal counsels and lobbying crews, who have engaged in a pathetic dance to gaslight Brussels officials, and force them to say that one of the largest messaging platforms and one of the most used browsers in the world, run by the two companies with the highest evaluations in the world, for some reason are not expected to play by the rules written for everyone else.

Shame on them, and shame on the childish sociopaths who run them.

Resolved: Microsoft Outlook Blocking All Email from @tutanota.com Domain as Spam.

tuta.com/blog/outlook-falsely-…

This is just another example of how much power Microsoft has. But sometimes I'm not sure they really know what they're doing.

Anyway, dealing with Windows email users (businesses and individuals) can be a nightmare.

If you plan on using your own email server, sooner or later you'll be playing this game too.

#microsoft #outlook #hotmail #email #spam @Tutanota

Edit2: Solved! Thanks everyone!
#Blind #Microsoft #excel users and others who, for whatever reason, only use the keyboard, NOT THE MOUSE: How the hell do I tell Excell to continue a pattern in a column without selecting it and clicking on the bottom left side of the screen or whatever?
Let's say I have a column with 1 in A1, 2 in A2, 3 in A3, so forth, and want that to go on for 150 cells or so. How the hell do I do it? Because I know I used to know, but I cannot find it.
It's not control+d. That just fills the whole column with 1's. It's not copy-paste; that does adjust properly for formulas, but for this, it doesn't. There is surely an option somewhere in the menus, but I cannot find it.
Alternatively, I'd also be happy to learn of ways to do this in #OpenOffice #Calc, so long as they are keyboard-only and accessible. LibreOffice doesn't work all that well here, at least Writer doesn't, but I could double-check if that extends to other programs.
#AskFedi #AskMastodon #ScreemReader

Edit: a couple folks suggested using formulas for this, adding so the first cell would be 1, the second A1 +1, etc. That works quite well for most use cases! It would mean the order of the numbers would stay the same when reordering the table though, so if I was using this to autocomplete a list of years, then sold by the comumn Income ... bam, the income of each year's not right anymore.
Also suggested was Home>Fill>Series. I do not see a Series option in the Fill menu at all, Bewilderingly. I'll try to switch my language to English to see if that's the issue, but I pressed all the things, so pretty sure it's not there for me in Office 365. Could someone with that version check whether it works for them?
Edit2: I figured out how to get to the series option! Turns out it was there, I just didn't realise I had to select the right type of series. :ms_facepalm: For those curious, for the Slovenian version, that's Alt +N, FI, V, Enter.

Shocking but not surprising: New #Microsoft #Outlook is phishing **your mail account credentials** without telling you, all it takes is try it out once. So, don't.
As always, better go with FOSS: @thunderbird

Usually phishing comes from shady people that need to jump through some hoops to try and get you. #Microsoft just thinks they can rob you in broad daylight.. crazy.

#Microsoft wants to move #Windows fully to the cloud.

Quick FYI 🏁 🏎️

Prior to #GoDaddy killing my #POP #Email client access on June 2 as part of #Microsoft's mandate to force users onto its #Exchange protocol, I switched from #Outlook 2016 to #Thunderbird 114 Beta (which still connects w/ #POP3 + #OAuth2 - unsure if it's a glitch, but it works)

Thunderbird 114 Beta Portable (it's the version I'm using)
portableapps.com/apps/internet…

Since Thunderbird team is moving towards its new #Supernova #UI for Thunderbird 115, there's a mixture of old & new menus

Is it groovy that #Microsoft has such an engaged #accessibility team? Yup. Is it a downer that they continue to post on a platform that fired its entire accessibility team and killed off the third-party accessibility tools, while ignoring this one? Hell yup. So if you missed it, here’s their #GAAD blog post. blogs.microsoft.com/on-the-iss…

It's a step forward.

Why does it seem like it's only Google's #Spyware that gets something resembling appropriate regulations? When are they going to start enforcing anti-spyware legislation on #Disney, #Apple, and #Microsoft ? #BanDRM

FREUNDLICHE ERINERRUNG

Microsoft is rewriting parts of GDI in Rust, as evidenced by a new file called "win32kbase_rs.sys" which contains a complete reimplementation of the REGION type in rust, and a vive ID called "Rust_GDI_REGION".

Why would you buy bloated, overpriced, office software from #Microsoft when you can have the excellent #LibreOffice? It's easy to convert files if necessary.
