Have you seen the Stack Overflow Developer Survey results for 2023?

Of the 83,830 folks surveyed, Matrix is the #1 chat tool in terms of current users' satisfaction. It's also rated as the most desirable among the open source tools listed, but there is a _lot_ of room for improvement in awareness there.

Let's build on this in 2024! 🚀 survey.stackoverflow.co/2023/#…

Do you work on GNOME or adjacent stuff? Do you want to help improve the GNOME desktop around usability, reliability, safety, digital well-being?

GET PAID TO DO IT!

The @gnome Foundation is offering a one-year contract (with potential to extend) to work on the above on behalf of the Foundation. You’d probably interact with me, the GNOME design team, and core maintainers of GNOME components.

It's tantalisingly close! 😍 #LibreOffice 24.2 (with new "year.month" version scheme) is our next major update – due in February. And now the first release candidate is available for testing: qa.blog.documentfoundation.org… #foss #OpenSource

LibreOffice can open files in a wide range of formats – but its native one is the Open Document Format (ODF). And now there's an update to the ODF Toolkit, a set of Java modules for programmatic creation, scanning and manipulation of ODF files: blog.documentfoundation.org/bl… #libreoffice #standards #foss #OpenSource

2024 is here! But let's have a quick recap of #LibreOffice project and community updates in December 2023: blog.documentfoundation.org/bl… #foss #OpenSource

This is neat! In our place the rule is even 1.5m clearance for overtaking within city boundaries and 2m on country roads. But that‘s pure theory, as most car drivers don‘t know or care about this rule. (And we don’t have an official sign for it.)

As to #FOSS here, I know about (though have never used) the openbikesensor.org hardware that measures these distances in real life. Also very interesting!

Moin @ADFC_Hamburg @CriticalMassHamburg @VCDNord – kanntet ihr schon mapcomplete.org/ghostbikes.htm… ?

LibreOffice is available in a huge number of languages, thanks to communities around the world! Check out the recent Localization Sprint 2023 in Nepal: blog.documentfoundation.org/bl… #libreoffice #foss #OpenSource

In my talks and discussions about the role of Open Source maintainers, I usually list a number of reasons why maintainers might quit or otherwise reduce their involvement.

"The Russian army destroyed my house" hasn't been on that list yet 😐 🇺🇦

Coming up in February: #LibreOffice 24.2, our next big update, with many new features! (And a new "year.month" version scheme, to make it clear when it was released.) The first Beta version is now available for testing: qa.blog.documentfoundation.org… #foss #OpenSource

Suraj Bhattarai is our Liaison in the Nepali community. And together with other local open source communities, he recently concluded the "#LibreOffice Localisation Sprint 2023". Awesome work! More to come on our blog soon... #foss #opensource

it's very late but a huge thank you to you and the whole #rockbox crew who put in this effort. I love love loved it back in the day and very much appreciated the #foss model being a disruptor in the proprietary media player marketplace

Who makes #LibreOffice? Hundreds of people around the world – volunteers, developers in the ecosystem, and more. Robert Cabane here is part of our Quality Assurance (QA) project – and you can join it too: blog.documentfoundation.org/bl… #foss #OpenSource

I am amazed that the history is so deep and reach. From talking to government ministers and training policymakers on #OpenSource, to building code and software for Nepalese users, Nepal is not new to the #FOSS movement.

I am learning so much about the ambition from the local movement!

We're back for Day 2 of #GNOMEAsia2023 with the opening keynote by Hempal Shrestha. He is introducing the past, present, and future of the #OpenSource community in Nepal.

I love how this is starting: a steward of the culture and the movement in #Nepal painting a picture of how the local movement got to where it is today, the successes, and the challenges. There are so many students here. Inspiring the next generation for folks who are coming in and are hungry for more #FOSS.

Our next big release will be #LibreOffice 24.2, in February 2024! (We're moving to a "year.month" version scheme, to make it more clear when the software was released.) And the first Alpha development build is now available for testing: qa.blog.documentfoundation.org… #foss #opensource
