Are any other @thunderbird users seeing the issues that @winterschon wrote about in this post? I've been seeing the high resource usage, just not quite as high (but almost as high). This is one of the reasons that I'm moving back to Emacs for my email or looking for a client that is a bit "lighter" on the resource usage.

I'm starting to regret buying a yearly subscription from TutaNota.
It lets a lot more spam in my inbox than my old SpamAssassin with default settings.
I could live with that. But then I found that they don't support plus-addressing — the standard feature of email services for a long time.
I don't know how many messages from old places where I used user+tag@example.com addresses are not coming through now.
I only found out when I tried to register an account somewhere and the confirmation email didn't arrive, so initially I thought the website didn't like the +, as it happens. Then I tried to send a message to myself to a plus-tagged address and lo and behold — tutanota's mailer daemon notified me that the recipient didn't exist.
Now I realized I also lost a preordered digital product this way because I used a tagged address when I placed my order, so when it's released, I will not receive it at that address.

I believe in their philosophy but I feel cheated now.
Not sure what @Tutanota think about that.

If our softwares were optimized, and if the web wasn't bloated, we could have dirt cheap computers. People already do a lot with RPi Pico.

I think the biggest problem is web. With an RP2040 you can do #gopher, #gemini, #email, #paint and #wordprocessing to say the least. A computer based on this could be very useful for schools. I am being tempted to do a startup or try getting a grant.

is there any VPS provider more chad than #Contabo ?? arcanechat.me VPS went down today, the VPS will simply fail to start from the Control Panel, this WAY TOO OFTEN happens during weekends or holidays, their status page says nothing about any problems or maintenance, and if you try to write to support they will tell you "sorry it is weekend, your message will not even be stored" so I guess arcanechat.me will be down the whole weekend >

I said it before on Mastodon. I'm reposting this again. Comparing #DeltaChat and #Matrix together, if you want hassle free and consistent messenger for private #E2EE chats, don't go for Matrix. DeltaChat is way better.

However, if you want something like a public forum, or a public chatroom, don't go for DeltaChat. Matrix is way better suited for that. And DeltaChat does not support public groups at all. In DeltaChat groups, there is no admin or moderator and everyone have got permission to remove or add the others.

I think I have to write a longer post on my personal blog about these two, comparing them together.

I manage my own e-mail server. I occasionally have outbound messages rejected because my hosting provider's entire network sometimes appears on block/deny lists. I also have an e-mail account hosted by Microsoft Exchange Online. Yesterday, an outbound message from that account was rejected by a receiving server because the IPv4 address of one or more of Microsoft's servers was on a public block list.

Perhaps having multiple addresses hosted by different providers is now becoming a practical necessity.

Tuta email, located in Germany, Europe, now uses quantum computers to encrypt their emails.

(Technically, they are using algorithms determined to be safe against attacks from quantum computers. And they don't actually have a quantum computer running 24/7, but that is good enough for me.)

#TIL that #Thunderbird lets me set #filters to move an #email to a particular place *when* I archive it, rather than immediately! So I can still read the emails as they come in, and then hit "archive" to have them automagically filed away 📁️

There are other triggers too, besides "as soon as the email comes in" and "when I archive" that I haven't explored yet. Thunderbird rocks! ✨️
