#ElementX nutze ich schon länger parallel zu #Element für meine Chats.
Nun habe ich aber das neue #SchildiChat Next ausprobiert.
Es basiert auch auf ElementX, hat aber #Spaces integriert. Das gefällt mir sehr gut. Damit lassen sich z.B. Chaträume übersichtlich ordnen.
#Matrix ist für mich nach wie vor ne gute Sache. Ich würde es auch WhatsApp-Wechslern eher empfehlen als #Signal ... vor allem auch, weil man sich damit nicht vom Smartphone abhängig macht.

Tiny new feature: Checkboxes in a message.
No, I'm not gonna make it a full blown task list app 😜 but it happens quite often, that my wife sends me a list of groceries when I'm walking to the supermarket. This way I'm now able to check, what I have already in my cart so I don't forget anything.
It works by sending special reactions under the hood. So anyone with reaction sending permissions in a room can check any box from any sender.

synapse seemingly has the pro in terms of support for tools such as synapse admin: github.com/Awesome-Technologie…
and the ability to use oauth and handle user management using solutions such as authentik.
while conduit seems to be more resource efficient and better in terms of speed?

Finally have my Prosody server all compliant!
I had an epiphany last night about something in the nginx config and after sorting that, all the optional XEP listed also pass!
Now to convince wife and kids to use it for our group chat... they really don't want to install any more apps, because I'm "being difficult" because they already use whatsapp 😑
The main reason I'm impressed with it over matrix, is reliable notifications. It just works. So far, anyway.
Thank you to the people that replied to my post last week suggesting I try xmpp after the matrix server we used shut down. I had written it off as an old platform for nerds, but it's... actually really good ❤️

I have now filed a bug report about the web version of #Element (the flagbearing #Matrix client) constantly using/waking my CPU while it is unfocused in a background tab in Firefox: github.com/element-hq/element-…
I'm hoping I'm not the only one observing this issue, and that some power saving improvements can be made, because to me this would look like a big drain on battery life for modern #laptops that *need* you to let their CPUs sleep while idle.

I said it before on Mastodon. I'm reposting this again. Comparing #DeltaChat and #Matrix together, if you want hassle free and consistent messenger for private #E2EE chats, don't go for Matrix. DeltaChat is way better.
However, if you want something like a public forum, or a public chatroom, don't go for DeltaChat. Matrix is way better suited for that. And DeltaChat does not support public groups at all. In DeltaChat groups, there is no admin or moderator and everyone have got permission to remove or add the others.
I think I have to write a longer post on my personal blog about these two, comparing them together.

Maybe time for people and groups to start considering #Matrix for their current #Discord servers, as Discord becomes focused on getting money out of everyone who uses it, with likely enshitification beginning soon. #XMPP/#Jabber is also an alternative.
Both are decentralized, publicly owned services, where you can interact with anyone else regardless of which server they choose to be hosted on, just like Mastodon, et al.

What's the state of #matrix, #xmpp and #IRC as far as #screenReader -accessible clients are concerned? Desktop (Windows, Mac) and mobile (iOS, Android).
Hoping for some input, please feel free to boost. As far as I know:
Matrix does not have a lightweight, fully accessible client for desktop, but one could be modified, such as #gomuks. On mobile, Element has scrolling issues, which is unacceptable for large rooms.
XMPP has accessible desktop clients (I used to run #Adium on the Mac), also #WeeChat. No idea about mobile.
IRC is perhaps the one which everything supports on desktop, from #MirandaIM through Weechat to the old Freedom Chat, which I could probably rewrite if I had to. Also not sure about mobile, but it would definitely need push notifications, because we can't expect people to stay constantly online on the go. #a11y #accessibility
Surely though the purpose of @EUCouncil looking at #Matrix would be to remove reliance on US tech companies?
If so, isn't it a major roadblock that @element / ElementX don't have working calls without Google / Apple on mobile (Note: relevant to all non Android/iPhone, not just those with NTFY):

I really recommend you to give a try to #DeltaChat anonymous login without any phone number or any private data required, you can create as many accounts and add as many devices as you want, all work smoothly no encryption problems with multi-device etc and it has a better interface than #matrix on the level of #WhatsApp and #Telegram super user-friendly and painless to onboard family and friends
And you LITERALLY own your data and can browse it and search it offline
One thing I don't like about #Signal is that it only supports one mobile device per account. I know they want to make it easy for the average user. But for someone who has two phones, it's very limiting.
That's why I prefer #Matrix. Adding another device and decrypting all existing messages doesn't even feel so clunky anymore.
#FluffyChat now displays all of your #matrix push rules in the settings in a user friendly interface. You can enable/disable them and delete custom push rules if needed.
In the future I might add a poweruser editor for new push rules. Aiming to support as many features of matrix push rules as possible.
@matrix has gone from $0 to $561K in recurring revenue in just 2 years. But our expenses run $1.2M/yr.
We've burned through reserves and are at a crossroads.
It's the classic FOSS funding problem: use and adoption are at an all-time high, wealthy companies and countries use it, and secure decentralized comms have never been more important. And yet we can't pay our bills.
