It's been a pleasure when the Linux Professional Institute asked us for an interview. 😍

After more annoyances that Gnome/RedHat is pulling lately ( https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/adwaita-icon-theme/-/issues/288 ), I just donated to #Linux #Mint, instead of my original intention, #Gnome.

The Gnome Project is a wall-garden, but not of the Apple kind. It's a club of mostly #Redhat programmers & a few select others, and either you're in it, or you're not. Your user needs, your bug reports, your patches, all end up on /dev/null. They listen to no one. Never have, never will.

So, my money went to a fork.

Did you know that #LibreOffice has a tabbed user interface option? Make sure you're using the latest release, LibreOffice 24.2, to get the most from it! (And you can find it in the menu under View > User Interface...) #foss #opensource #freesoftware

I've been using #LibreOffice for many years. Only when I'm forced I use another office suite, and that did not happen in the last 2.5 years.

I highly recommend LibreOffice!

Introducing the nominees for our first ever Governing Board elections 🎉 We are grateful to everyone who has raised their hands, and are positively overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and vision expressed by our nominees: https://matrix.org/governing-board/elections/2024/

Get to know the candidates, and get ready: voting begins on May 18th.

@vick21 @jcsteh I guess the same thing you would do with Freedos. That’s been around for a while. As I understand, it has been compatible with MS DOS. #freedos #opensource

Pssst. Mark your calendars: the first annual Matrix Conference will be held in Berlin from September 19-22.

(... and yes, that _is_ immediately following the #OSSummitEU which is being held in Vienna.)

After a great week for Linux, with the releases of Fedora 40 and today Ubuntu 24.04, I would be interested to know which operating system the Fediverse in my "bubble" uses? Linux? Windows? Or macOS or even a BSD? More than one?

Please write in the comments which distribution or version! Thanks for participating and SHARING!

You don't need a new computer for up-to-date software ... just the right software!

Come to #Umweltfestival 2024 in #Berlin to learn about the role of independent #FreeSoftware in the sustainable use of hardware.

🗓️ Sunday 28 April, 11-19h
📍 Straße des 17. Juni (Brandenburg Gate)

#KDEEco together with #FSFE (@fsfe) and Bits & Bäume (@bitsundbaeume_berlin) will be there! Some in the #GNOME and #postmarketOS community may be joining as well :)

I've been glued to the @matrix Governing Board nomination form results since it opened 🤩

It's a wonderful feeling, seeing the nominations come in from many different people who care about Matrix and want to help make it better for one another.

Folks have been working toward this open governance for years now, and every day it gets more real!

June 3rd is when our first ever election results will be announced. Then the next phase of hard work begins 🚀

WTF? Is #Tenacity on the #Flatpak store #MALWARE? Apparently it was running in the bg AS IF it was an invincible #Gnome extension so SystemMonitor/htop would NOT see it as a process. But #MissionCenter (also from flatpak store) saw it as it is: an app running on startup! Killing it killed Gnome session! It was also spiking wifi, and was leaking the Gnome gjs service from 4MB RAM to 120MB. Uninstalling fixed the prob

Third party flatpak/snaps should be vetted.

So I finished writing the #AudioDescription for episode one of the journey of Alan strange and I’m using cadet. It’s not open source, but it is screen reader accessible and I think it’s incredibly astonishing how there seems to be no screen reader accessible #Captioning/subtitle software out of all the ones I tried that were free. The ones that are open source require much more labeling than I’m willing to do in code. I found one called subtitle composer that would be perfect but their windows installer is broken so I had to use an older version. I use captioning software to make start an in markers, notes on what the description should be, and then exporting that into an SRT, then manually converting that SRT into a CSV. I have yet to find an accessible, screen reader friendly, captioning software that can do all of this in one app, including export to CSV format, work with screen readers and keyboard command, be able to remap keys, play media found on URLs. As of right now, Cadet is the only fully accessible/screen reader friendly Captioning/description creation software. This is an area where #OpenSource can really shine if they wanted to. If you do have any recommendations for software or tools, let me know! No AI recommendations though. I will always be better than AI, and it’s literally never enhanced my productivity whatsoever. With one python script, I can be more productive than any AI solution you will want to recommend me, I promise you! #Accessibility

Handy #LibreOffice Calc tip! Press Ctrl+; to insert the current date, or Shift+Ctrl+; for the current time. Want a date and time that's always updating? Use the =NOW() function. https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/en-US/text/scalc/01/04060102.html #foss #opensource

The #IzzySoftRepo (better known as #IzzyOnDroid – so I'll probably use that hashtag in the future) is used from all over the world, as this graph from GoAccess web statistics shows. Almost no country where it's not in use. I could only spot 3 small gray areas where no requests originated from.

I'm glad being able to help people from all over the world to get their #free and #OpenSource #Android #apps – and hope you enjoy them, too! :awesome:

Catima 2.29.0 is out!

This release adds support for finding barcodes in PDF files[1] and dealing with multiple barcodes. It also properly colours the status bar during usage now.

As always, it's available on #GitHub, will soon be available on #IzzyOnDroid and will slowly roll out to other app stores.
