@modulux @David Gerard For making missing text part for scanned PDF files and OCR-ing other images I like to use a python based command line app called ocrmypdf which uses #tesseract as a dependency. It runs on linux and windows.

@tardis Yes, we're using the Catholic/western feast date rather than the Orthodox one (not out of any particular bias towards the western church, just because this whole thing for us started when someone on our forum went "hey what other saints are there for alternatives to Valentine" about 10 years ago so we started from the day!)
There's also multiple different May dates on which they're celebrated and Czechia & Slovakia have a bonus day in July apparently! They hop around the calendar a fair bit :)

I don't believe in any of these faiths, or religions, but I do respect the guys who decided to create the alphabet, first, it was called glagolitsa, then the students of the brothers made it Cyrrilic, this is what we've been taught. In any case, there is old Bulgarian where the original alphabet can still be seen, though it is unreadable for text to speech, so I have never read any old texts, though they exist.

in general, X11 over SSH is very inefficient to begin with; the only way to avoid saturating the bandwidth is to use applications written to draw X11 primitives, which means apps written using Xaw/Athena/Motif. Anything written in this century will submit blocks of image data, which X11 is terrible at.
While I don't know if is the first time this has happened, it's good to acknowledge this given all the crazy, odd, and incorrect press about Rust in Linux these days.
A new in-kernel api just landed in linux-next from my tree and should hopefully show up in 6.14 to make some kinds of drivers easier to write, that has a rust binding added at the exact same time: lore.kernel.org/all/2025021023…

apt's default behavior of automatically installing recommended packages strikes again. Seeing if I can trace it back to a specific recommended package. Node.js and npm certainly don't require X11.
It seems the culprit is that nnpm recommends node-tap (some testing thing), which depends on some X11 and XDG stuff, which pulls in more X11 stuff via recommendations.
@emilis @Anachron In my experience, apt installs recommended packages by default on both distros. The solution is the --no-install-recommends command-line option. I think you can also make that the default in a config file somewhere.
It even tried installing x11 packages on a Raspbian server.
Now I wonder what other garbage I got installed with other packages.
Anyway, as a seasoned JS developer I recommend downloading archives from nodejs.org/en/download directly, extracting them in a local directory and symlinking the 3 binaries (node, npm, npx) into your PATH.
