So like I just have to ask. For people that are super critical of AI for accessibility, what do you expect instead? Do you want blind people to have human ... guides or whatever that will narrate the world around you? Do you want humans to describe all your pictures? Videos? Porn? Because that's about the only other option. And you may return with "Well audio description." And I return with "You think people are going to describe every YouTube video out there? Or old TV shows like Dark Shadows?" Because honestly that's what it'd take. If AI were *not* around, if we want *that* kind of access, that's what we'd have to ask, of darn near every sighted human in the world. And I just don't feel comfortable with demanding that of them.
Now, we'll see what Apple does to give us what will hopefully be even better image descriptions. Imagine a 3B model that is made with **high quality** images and description pairs, trained to do nothing but describe images. Apple has done pretty darn good without LLM's so far, so maybe they'll surprise us further. But my goodness, I'd much rather have something that, yes, makes me *feel* included, maybe a tad bit more than it actually *does* include me. And that's for each and every blind person to decide for themselves if they want to use AI for image, and probably soon, video descriptions, and what they're willing to trust with it. But for us to get this much real, human access, I just hope people who are detracting from AI understand that we who use AI are now used to having images described, and well, soon videos. It's just something that I don't think people should just deny quickly.

FFS, GNOME! Just wasted a day of editing video because the built-in screen recorder records screencasts at such a low quality that I ended up with keyframe artefacts / ghosting in my captures.

Recently, I uploaded a video from Bell Laboratories, Inc. featuring the first example of synthesized computer speech. Regrettably, this was the first upload of mine to receive a copyright violation. However, this was not due to the content of the record itself, but rather due to someone who had sampled parts of the record and used them in their own song. As far as I understood, YouTube's copyright and content ID match requires original creations that do not contain samples from another recording.
I conducted research to determine who now owned all of Bell Labs' patents and copyrights and discovered that it was Nokia. I was able to submit a form for licensing requests via their website and explained the nature of my channel and the copyright problem I had encountered while trying to showcase their record on YouTube.
To my pleasant surprise, Nokia was incredibly accommodating and granted me a no-charge lifetime license, on the condition that I add the message "Courtesy of Nokia Corporation and AT&T Archives" to the video, which I was more than willing to do.
Unfortunately, this process required me to edit the video and re-upload it. However, it is now up once again, and the copyright has been filed with the claimant, including all details of the license I received from Nokia.

Extract an #mp3 from a video, run it through Whisper, and it turns every spoken word into text. It even does a very decent job in #Danish. Perfect for subtitling #TV and #video. I am very impressed.

VHS machine in action: load, play, fast forward, rewind, play, seek forward and backward, stop, eject.
I admire the engineering that makes all the parts work so good together. For example, tape loading is done with one motor that is attached to a gear that can be seen in the top right corner. Thanks to different sensors and the rotary encoder that is connected to the gear, the VHS machine can also check if it is in a valid state or not and by that prevent tape damage.
