Ok so calling for the opinion of my fellow home server enthusiasts here, I want to:
At minimum host Miniflux, PiHole and Joplin Server with docker or similar system. That are the essentials.
If possible, I'm also interested in:
GitTea, Home Assistant and and a Media Server for my Audio books.
I did a lot of research today, and while a Raspberry Pi seems very suitable for most of that, especially when it comes to Home Assistant I feel like people tend to get a mini PC and co.
I've done further research and am going to try out Proxmox in order to see whether that's something I could imagine managing my stuff on a mini PC with, so I could have a VM running Home Assistant OS for example. A mini PC I would consider for example is the Beelink MINI-S12 Pro.
I'd greatly appreciate any opinions, about software to make managing easier, the hardware and so on.

So among the various things i #selfhost is my NAS. It's just a desktop that I installed a nice disk controler and some 12K SAS drives and #TrueNAS. But it lives, like a lot of my kit, in the garage. And it's hot in the garage tonight. Ambient air temp is like 82F/28C at 23:00 at night.
Most of the time it's fine. CPUs tend to run around 45C just doin normal stuff. But when I do an scp of a film I've digitized on my laptop, it goes over gigabit ethernet and that seems to warm up the CPUs. For the whole like 45-90 seconds the scp is running, the cores get super hot. Then it calms down.

is there any VPS provider more chad than #Contabo ?? arcanechat.me VPS went down today, the VPS will simply fail to start from the Control Panel, this WAY TOO OFTEN happens during weekends or holidays, their status page says nothing about any problems or maintenance, and if you try to write to support they will tell you "sorry it is weekend, your message will not even be stored" so I guess arcanechat.me will be down the whole weekend >

Last week, someone kindly flagged a problem with how I'd got calendar invitations set up, and it was annoying me.
So, over the weekend, I fixed it :)
Impressive, since switching from gitlab-ci to earthly, pipeline runs with container builds went from >20 minutes down to 3-8 minutes.
What a little bit of better caching can do for you.
It's no longer fully self-hosted, but earthly is trivial to self-host if I want to bother at some point.

This is how you cover a complex issue without glossing over details due to hindsight while also not making the topic sound more daunting.
