Baví mě komentáře od lidí na #Youtube, kteří mají nutkání "odhalovat" neoznačená AI videa, jako např. cestovatelku časem na různá historická místa. Jinak by se díky realistické kvalitě opravdu nedalo poznat, že to není realita 😝

BTW jsem pro zákon označovat všechen AI obsah, jinak bude během několika let (nejen) Youtube skoro nepoužitelný, nebude se dát filtrovat. A vše bude růst exponenciálně: porostou nároky na energii, poroste množství podvodů a lží, bude se melancholicky vzpomínat na dobu před AI. V rukou mentálně nedospělých lidí je AI zlo.

I'm going to try and stop watching short-form content online.

I gave up watching tiktok a number of months ago, and now it's time for Reels and YouTube Shorts to go as well.

I have a theory that they trigger the same areas of the brain that gambling lights up.. and it's not so much about the watching, but about swiping to see if you ✨win✨ by finding something fun. I noticed that I'd be watching something I was enjoying and just swipe anyways to see if the next clip was ✨better✨, which feels like classic gambling behaviours.

Vhsky.cz provozujeme už skoro rok a víme, že dokážeme dobře poskytovat videa na vyžádání, tento víkend jsme si ale ukázali, že zvládneme i streamování větší konference. Celá akce nám přinesla velké množství zkušeností, které jsem shrnul v tomto blogovém zápisku.

YouTube’s subscription and advertising business helped generate a staggering amount of revenue for parent company Alphabet during the third quarter (Q3) of the year, driven primarily by higher interest in YouTube Premium and YouTube TV, the company said on Wednesday.

YouTube’s advertising business alone clocked in at nearly $10.3 billion, up more than 15 percent against the same time period last year, and accounting for more than 10 percent of Alphabet’s $102.4 billion in Q3 revenue.

In cooperation between @vhsky and @openalt we'd like to demonstrate that even a large-scale conference can be live streamed without #YouTube. An initial stress test showed that 7 concurrent streams in multiple resolutions exceeded the capabilities of the server Vhsky.cz runs on (32core i9-13900 and 96 GB RAM).

However, the Fediverse community helps each other. @bycx loaned us a real beast machine which we now use as an external runner for transcoding jobs. It passed today's stress test with flying colors.

Všem, co tvoří videa pro #VHSky bych chtěl poděkovat. Obzvlášť těm, co nahrávají pravidelně.

Já vim lidi, že nemáte tisíce shlédnutí, jako na #YouTube, nikdo vám nikdy za nic nezaplatí (naopak část vás spíš platí, aby nějaký VHSky byly :)) a je nás tam málo, ale když se podíváte, tak dneska už to neni poloprázdná stránka s ničím.

Jsou tam recepty, zvířátka, IT věci, přednášky i filmy a to všechno jen díky vám všem.

Teď bych ale měl žádost/prosbičku/apel na vás. Chtěl bych, aby tenhle post měl co nejvíc přesdílení a komentářů, aby o projektu vědělo co nejvíc lidí a třeba někoho dalšího napadne, že to jeho háčkování, 3Dtisky, výlety, politalky nebo třeba jiný varianty broukpytlingu můžou bejt pro někoho zajímavý a natočí je. Nebo někdo, kdo o VHSkách ještě neví začne pravidelně sledovat :)

Zároveň chci požádat o diskuzi o tom, co vám tam chybí, přebývá nebo co by šlo vylepšit. Chtěl bych vědět, proč tam jste (anebo ještě nejste :) ) a jestli třeba neznáte nějaký zajímavý účty, co ještě nemirrorujem.

Pojďme si ten náš #PeerTube doladit tak, aby si každej něco našel.

We're in an age where important video and audio online may be deleted without warning and without any ability to find it elsewhere. There's a very useful tool which lets you store an offline copy of video and audio called YT-DLP:

I don't normally like command line tools, but this is pretty easy to use. After you've installed it, you just type yt-dlp and then the URL of the video or audio, then it saves it as a DRM-free file on your computer.

It works with a variety of different video and audio platforms.

(This replaces an earlier tool called yt-dl which is no longer maintained.)

#Google is making it increasingly difficult to view their videos in ways that don't make you choke on their surveillance, ads and cookies. I will *never* load a video directly from YouTube, and I know I'm not the only one.

Anyone here witnessed/seen hour+ unskippable ads on #YouTube? Yes, you read that right. Supposedly, Google is only showing this to some users it suspects of using an adblocker.

We all know how #Google has become increasingly hostile towards adblocking technologies in the last couple years… but if this is true - and not some sort of bug - geez… doesn’t help they neither confirm or deny it in the news sources I’ve seen.
