The #EuropeanCommission is finally considering whether "#OpenSource software (#OSS)…can be used as a foundation for developing the new #publishing platform" for EC-funded #OpenAccess research.
op.europa.eu/en/publication-de…
Unfortunately, the new software would merely "underpin" #OpenResearchEurope (#ORE), not replace it. ORE is proprietary software owned by #TaylorAndFrancis. When the EC called for bids on ORE, it did not require open code despite many calls to do so.
Analysis of the requirements for the Open Source infrastructure of the Open Research Europe Publishing Platform.
Open Research Europe (ORE) is the peer-reviewed open-access publishing platform of the European Commission. It follows the post-publication peer review model to promote scientific transparency and reuse.Publications Office of the EU

I am amazed that the history is so deep and reach. From talking to government ministers and training policymakers on #OpenSource, to building code and software for Nepalese users, Nepal is not new to the #FOSS movement.
I am learning so much about the ambition from the local movement!
We're back for Day 2 of #GNOMEAsia2023 with the opening keynote by Hempal Shrestha. He is introducing the past, present, and future of the #OpenSource community in Nepal.
I love how this is starting: a steward of the culture and the movement in #Nepal painting a picture of how the local movement got to where it is today, the successes, and the challenges. There are so many students here. Inspiring the next generation for folks who are coming in and are hungry for more #FOSS.
Now, @Aryan20 is presenting at #GNOMEAsia2023 about @gnome extensions and the ecosystem. How do extensions fit into the desktop scene?
He builds on his work done as a #GSoC intern and why the flexibility and customization of the desktop grows the success of the #OpenSource ecosystem.
#GNOMEAsia2023 starts in just a few hours! We're excited to see everyone in person in Kathmandu and online! Make sure you're registered and check your email for links and access codes to join us remotely:

People familiar with Flatpak and Blender... want to help Blender on board with Flatpak, officially upstream?
There's an open issue with initial tasks to be completed: projects.blender.org/blender/b…
They could use some help around packaging and permissions. :)

Flatpak package for Linux releases
Blender on Linux is already available as a Snap package. Flatpak seems to be the more popular format at least on non-Ubuntu based distributions, so it would sense to officially support it as well.Blender Projects

How do open source projects get things done? How do they retain contributors, attract users, and make technical decisions? All this (and more!) falls under the auspice of "governance". Shauna Gordon-McKeon explores the power and potential in being thoughtful your project's governance, and how expanding your view of what governance entails can create a virtuous cycle.
